Year 12 here! As GCSE season comes round, I just wanted to comment on how excellent these videos were for me. 2023 gcse student here , now in yr 12, who got a grade 8 in Eng Lang ( 1 mark away from a 9 ) but this definitely would’ve helped me last year bc the question we got last year I was originally planning a description but it threw me off and I was forced to do a story ( which I pre planned and then adjusted to the question) so my advice is to definitely plan descriptions of the weather and adapt it to the question and don’t get panicked by the picture like I did, good luck! And thanks again to mr salles bc I couldn’t have done it without him

@@swish-mo3sh i mentioned communism and featured it quite heavily as a theme on the p1q5 story question overall i generally structured in paragraphs which i know isn't exactly recommended but i was relevant to the question so it worked generally more for paper 1 than 2

Seems a bit ironic going on about a 'reliable test' and then encouraging students to do the very thing that makes it an unreliable test. It is supposed to be a test of what students can do with an unseen image. Not a test of memorising a pre-prepared answer. And this kind of thing is noticed in exam scripts.

How do you practice writing a a story to make it read like the beginning of a book?

Read a short book or an extra that describes the beginning of something and steal some phrase as well as ideas for example I read an extra and I stole this phrase which I use in always in my q5

Mr Salles, can you use the picture question as just. prompt and take yourself smwhre else in your mind - eg if it says like the other year that you have to describe a fishing village, does all your writing have to be about the fishing village, or can you move yourself somewhere else?

Hi Sir, I’ve been taught that there’s nothing in the mark scheme that says the description has to match the question so we don’t have to be worried about the image whatsoever as anyone could argue it’s inspired by the image do you think that’s a risky thing to do

You can write about a fishing village on mars, or in Sponge Bob, or in your wardrobe. But it still has to be a fishing village

Basically maybe the story is a man who enters a theatre and comes out when the play is finished Begging- describe the weather outside the theatre Middle- describe the weather that the “play” is presenting in the theatre e.g the play is Macbeth and they are performing Act 1 Sc 1 (don’t go too deep into what the actual play is focus on describing mostly how the theatre looks like inside and perhaps contrast it with what it looked like on the outside) End- describe the weather when the man comes outside the theatre.
