I have batteries installed on the G4 and wired. I first installed the batteries and tried it as a wireless camera around the house - works great. Then with the batteries still in, I wired it to the front door. Works well with continuous recording. Your issue was probably a one-off.

I know these reviews don’t get much retread, but as this video link popped up after another TBL video I was watching, I was compelled to overhaul my review. I previously ruled out the Aqara due to color. But, after continuous complaints about our August lock being slow at best, and offline often at worst, I went for the Aqara to give the family a myriad of options for how they entered the house. This is easily the Apple Home’s most loved device by the family. Both of my kids love the finger print reader and my wife likes the numeric keypad. Mind you, they all have Apple Watches and iPhones and know it works that way, but no! It’s also a favorite because it is so reliable and fast. They kids dig being able to slide down the keypad for a quick lock to engage. The audio cues are great and sufficiently loud for even my bad hearing. There’s no such thing as a perfect Apple Home accessory but this is damn close. OK, maybe the Eve Flare with Thread as well, but no color cycling was a huge miss!

I don’t have the U100 as an option to be added in the Aqara app. My region is set to Mainland China because that is where my other Aqara devices work. When I switched to US or OTHER, the U100 shows up but my other devices disappears so I am not able to bind my Aqara G2H hub with the U100 as they work on 2 different regions. Does anyone know a workaround on this to make the U100 show up on the mainland china region?

Unfortunately PIR sensor is not exposed to the Homekit. Simple light changes (without anyone physically being in front of it) will trigger motion detection, so I had to disable it. Streetlights or neighborhood lights have triggered my automations Camera is just comparing pixels. If they are different from previous frame, it reports motion trigger to HomeKit :(

Aqara just moved to the top of my list for affordable but reliable HomeKit tech. Unfortunately i had bought Eufy cameras right before the company stopped supporting HomeKit with their newer products. I still need to replace my Ring home security junk now that I don’t pay for their subscription features.

Aqara seems like it is putting more devices on the market that do more things than any other company right now. And, they’re sort of inexpensive and seem to work reliably.

Hi, just got the U100 lock and the G4 doorbell. I was toying with the idea to unlock the U100 once the doorbell captures my face in automation. But it won’t allow me to unlock. I also had a M1S Gen2 hub bound to both accessories but the automation won’t work as the app says upgrade the hub. I wonder if you know which hub to get to make this work. Thanks a ton! The door lock is amazing. I think Aqara missed the mark on the doorbell by a long shot! I was waiting for something better to come out over my Nest doorbell so I can finally make the jump, but what a huge letdown!

I realize that we do not use keys much these days but I always have keys with me just in case. The inability to rekey the U100 was a deal breaker even though the price is great. As much as I love Aqara not sure what they were thinking here.

I've had this lock installed for about a week. Everything has been good except for the auto lock feature, wish it had a bit of delay before it would auto lock.

Hi Brad. Great video. Question. I have a roommate with permanent access by fingerprint, but this person is not allow to come home when the family is on holidays. How can I prevent access to this person while on holidays. Any suggestions? Thanks

You had the wires crisscrossed. The red wire goes on the right side.

Great video!, I have a weird question, can you share the measurements for this lock?, I cannot find the dimensions of the outside part of the lock, I'm trying to design a door that would look good with this lock but have been unable to find the diagram or scheme for the actual lock dimensions

I’d like to see a kid tec video if you are looking for video ideas 😺. I have a kid the same age as your son that we want to get a watch. There is a seizure alert app available for the watch that we were looking at. She has a tablet now, but we don’t see a need for a phone or Mac yet. She does have her own Game Center ID set up on the appple TV so she can continue a game from her iPad.

I wish they’d do a version of the exterior portion that only has the finger print reader, NFC, and key. I don’t need or want a keypad and think it makes the device look too big. I’d be a bigger fan of Level Bolt if it weren’t so expensive and if it were more reliable and responsive. Haven’t tried the one with Home Key.

Fair point. I think the keypad is attractive for many many consumers, but it would be nice if there were different options. The homekey is very reliable in my experience. It would be hard for me to go back.....

I think that’s really what sets apart a great smart lock from mediocre. No one wants to not be able to unlock their door on the first try, and as our tech evolves all of this is still quite new. To that end, it’s also tough to shell out the money for a product that I may devise to replace in two years for something better than has come along. Of course, that applies to both the Aqara and the Schlage.

I just wish that doorbell wasn’t so bulky, too wide. They should make a wired version only, no batteries, then maybe they could make it smaller. Like the Google Nest Doorbell It’s too wide to place on my door frame

Dear friend, I have the switchbot lock with the first-generation hub. I consider replacing the hub to the second generation Hub2 for adding my switchbot lock support to the apple home support. Also, I interested buying Aqara G4 Doorbell (which is also support the Apple home) My question is if I can combine both products to work together ??? I mean, the moment someone rings the Aqara G4 Doorbell, I will be able to get notification from the apple home app, watch the G4 camera & on the same Apple screen app to open the switchbot lock for opening the door ? I watched the Aqara promotional video and saw that there is an option on both Aqara products (Aqara lock u200 & Aqara G4 Doorbell). When I walk up to my Tesla with my Iphone in my pocket, the car door unlocks. Why can't I do that with this lock without using that Apple HomeKit. I don't want to buy the HomeKit????
