Just previously I watched your more recent vid about the relevance of flint & steel in modern times, and these two vids together made me want to express appreciation for something you do very consistently: you very casually, clearly, and skillfully TEACH us about how to safely & effectively use & care for the gear you overview & review. Why the stick when you can just tie it to the tree?

I love my Safari. Its nylon, so it sags a bit when its been up awhile, but this thing blows away the DD. After a year of heavy use, I was getting a little inconsequential wetout around the tieouts, so I asked what waterproofing they recommend. They told me I shouldn't have to worry about waterproofing and sent me a new one. Now I have two. I have had it up for weeks at a time, in a saturated environment and unlike polyester tarps, like the DD, it didnt leak a drop - 20,000mm water resistance, as compared to the industry typical 3,500mm. I came back to camp once and found it loose, wrapped around a tree and flapping in a 20mph wind. Pulled it down and re-staked it and there is no sign of it ever happening. Tough, high-performance and half the price of a lot of lesser tarps.

So, I have this tarp as well as the 10x13 Defender tarp.. I find myself using the Safari tarp much more often, as I actually prefer a square tarp. It's light enough and tough enough for any need. I've been using this one for about 4 years, and it is still going strong.

Hi Wade, I also love my Aqua Quest tarp. Like you say here in B.C. we can get a lot of rain especially on the coast! I live in the sunny Okanagan so rain is not usually an issue. Thanks for the review and great videos as always.

That's a VERY nice tarp! Useful features like the upright pocket and the webbing adjusters are far and few between on tarps and translate to real benefits. You have pro level gear and know how to use it. Very nice to see! Good camera work taboot.

Great video mate, I just purchased the Bluestone tarp 10 x 12. It also came with ridge line and tie offs. It’s silver on the inside and green on the outside. I couldn’t beat the price or quality. Check them out

Ok why use a ridge pole when you're tying the point to the tree??

It actually gives some extra control over the height of the peak. If the tree is in the perfect spot it may not be necessary but in this case it helped. Thanks for watching.👍

I actually have the aquaquest safari but mine doesn’t have that pocket that you put the stick into... when did you purchase that tarp? I wonder if they have changed their designs

It came direct from Aquaquest, hmmmm I thought I got the Safari haha, I've had it almost a year now. The pole is not necessary you can simply tie the point to a tree, It works fine without the pole. Is yours 10x10?

So if you dont have the pocket, there should be a loop. You can simply use a stick through the loop or maybe a y branched stick. It would be fine. Thanks again for watching! Take care, Wade
