Metal Detecting Old Farm Yard: Silver Coins!

Billy finds silver before I even get my metal detector turned on! Please join me Billy, Thor, and my new friend Carl as we search and metal detect Carl's farm to see what we can recover. This is Carl's first time using a metal detector and I hook him up with a spare Garrett Ace that I carry in my truck for just such occasions. He did really well and fell in love with the hobby. This is part one of a three video series of us metal detecting his far. The other two videos will follow and include us metal detecting his farm fields and also the river mudflats he owns where there was once located a "tidal" grist mill a few centuries ago.

I believe that small skillet that was found at 9:20 is actually a grease cap for axle bearings. Metal grease caps like that are common on older trailers.

Found an ax head on a trip with my dad up into the woods with his old metal detector, he cleaned it up, sharpened it, then put a new handle in it, now it is the ax that I keep behind the seat in my p/u. It was a German made ax, from the markings on it, from around or before WW I, that some logger lost.

That's the first time I've see a Garrett Ace in action. It seemed to do a decent job. I've thought of getting one as my first detecting machine. I expect to purchase one in the next few weeks If I can get ahead a few bucks. Thanks for the video Chigg..

Don't know if you want my two cents but if I was you I'd put a little bit more with it and get a AT. The Ace series are good machines but in my opinion in no time at all you will want a water proof detector. You are really limited with the Ace series. If it starts raining you're done. And detecting in the water is one drop away from a ruined detector. I bought one when they first came out and within a month or two was selling it to get a AT. Hope this helps.

The default coil on the ace is really big. If you want to get up a level you would need to buy another coil for it.

I have the ace 400 and live it dearly but the things that were said here the stock coil is a big one already bought a 5×8 Lol and I wish it was water proof sooooo. Take that for what it's worth

The red quarters are from business owners. They would paint them to identify their own quarters they would put in jukeboxes to have music playing when business was slow. They get them back when venders get their money out.
