I guess there no metal detecting there. Fun to see what is hiding under the bottom.

Good video. You're not far away from me. Pretty close on George Washington, but he was in Junanville and Fort Necessity before Braddock came through. In fact, Washington signed a surrender that started the French and Indian War that brought Braddock in.

Cool here we go. Hidden places. There’s a fort on Bolivar island ,Tx . Built during the civil war. That uses the exact same construction technique as the (edit)buttresses . Large block with Chat filler .. how cool.

3:10 Love the history stuff! I went down the French and Indian War rabbit hole and found out General Braddock (along with Washington as his "Aide-de-Camp") actually stopped to camp across the valley from my house. Heard rumors there's still a well that they would've drank from, but it's on private property and the owners aren't big on sharing I guess. From there, they forded the Monongahela River where the McKeesport-Duquesne bridge is now (walking distance from my house) and advanced on Ft. Duquesne. Braddock was then injured in an ambush and they were forced to retreat. But while here, Washington made "friends" with Queen Aliquippa, the leader of the Seneca people in this area (now McKeesport, PA) who allied with Braddock et al against the French. Anyway, I started joking that Washington could have stopped to pee in my back yard haha. Probably not, but almost certainly some of the Seneca scouts did. Really cool learning this little area has so many ties to the beginnings of our country.

The Yough has some serious whitewater in other areas...looks pretty tame there. My 4x grandfather was in the Virginia Militia and fought in several Revolutionary War battles. All the way to Yorktown and Cornwallis' surrender!

Fun to see this today. I'm from this area, my mom and uncle own some land that borders this lake and I know one of the owners of the marina. They drain the lake every winter but it looks especially low this year, I'm going to have to check it out when I go back home for thanksgiving this year.

I've heard it is a record low this year.

The main reason they needed that bridge was because the fishing was better on the other side.

@aquachigger Glad you thought to make a video on this! Awesome place, we found a few porcelain canning lids and broken pottery wayyy over near the boat docks across the other side. Kind of amazing to see those things after all of the years they apparently set there. Also saw a small piece of roof slate with engravings on it

Maybe I missed it in the intro but has the lake been lowered to perform dam maintenance or is the drought causing the low water situation?
@aquachigger9 сағат бұрын
More drought related, they had to release a lot of water this year for downstream uses.
