I think the tank should be facing the other way, facing the inside of the hall. This lets the people sit and enjoy it instead of those just entering the building.

Im so curious too. It looks like 3/4” thick (18mm). Im trying to rebuild this exact tank. Height looks like it is somewhere around 24in. I would assume they wouldnt want to go any higher without bracing

Actually,Amano's esthetics are really opposite of nature...most root systems fan out from above in nature. Still,I get it and those underwater landscapes are beautiful to look at..but they are not really bio reproductions.
