Hi , I have a 10gallon betta sorority and I always see them banging their heads in the glass, is there any reason for that to happen?

Ok, there are few things to check. If your fish is new, still adopting to the tank.. it’s normal for glass surfing. If it’s happening even after few days.. it may be sign of Ich disease as well, fish trying to rub against glass. Check the to treat. Personally 10g is small for betta sorority. Only guppy males in tank may lead to fin nipping. They need females to get diverted

Also even though female bettas are typically less aggressive than males, they are still aggressive fish. Especially with other brightly colored, long finned fish. I would not put guppies with a betta sorority.

Having a male in a sorority in my opinion works if he has a very long tail and fins because he will be a slower swimmer and the females can easily swim away. Often males with bigger tails will give up on chasing and go back to their territory in a large tank. It has worked for me, but it also depends on the personality of the male as well.

It’s still depends in my opinion. I seen few females become picky and start nipping innocent male’s longfin. So, every tank situation is different. Best advise is, try and figure it out that works.👍👍

The same worked for me, just now the male is sick because of old age so I think I will just let the 3 female be and don't add new male after this poor one die. Oh and my tank is more like a community rather than a betta sorority, because I have 5 harlequin rasboras and some yellow mystery snails in the big tank too, these species can exist together with or without the male betta in peace. If we want to be honest male bettas aren't idiots, mostly they just want to court the girls, I never saw directly harmful behavior or fin nipping and such things. I wonder if its because the tank is fairly big wit lots of toy and decor (72 liter, I don't know how much gallon it is exactly but not 5 or 10, that's sure thing).

I saw your comment saying that putting a male in your sorority tank was successful! If you don’t mind me asking, how big is your tank & how many females do you have? So I have a 12 gallon betta sorority tank with 5 females. It’s a natural set up with Driftwood & live plants. They are doing well together, but there is some fin nipping & they do pick on one female in particular. Hopefully, I will be switching my sorority to a 32 gallon tank pretty soon! We have extra tanks because we also have salt water tanks with stingrays & sharks! This one person on KZbin that said that to help the aggression in his sorority tank. He put a plakat male betta in & it fixed all of his aggression & fin nipping problems he was having. When you put your male in, did help with the aggression? Do you suggest a long fin male? I’m just trying to figure out what’s the best to do? I keep getting different answers from everybody. Also, I am not looking to breed them, do you have issues with having a lot of babies? I love bettas! I have 6 females in my 65 gallon, a half moon white and purple betta, a black and turquoise crowntail betta, a pink and blue betta, a blue marbled betta, a red betta and a purple betta. They always get along and they love freeze dried bloodworms 🙂

My tank started out pretty plain, a few plants and a reef centerpiece. Since getting my 5 girls it is no longer this way. I have added so many hides, live plants, floating logs, coconut huts and tunnels that now I look like a decoration hoarder 😂 My girls are happy and healthy so its all staying.

help aqua diary! everyone loves jellyfish but ive noticed online that there is almost no content regarding freshwater jellyfish being kept in a community tank with other fish. is this possible? thank you for all you do, youre one of my favorites!

I’m not an expert on jellyfish. I had jellyfish tank only once in my life. They are not community tank fish. They do attack small fish and shrimps. In other side, turtles/crayfish can eat jellyfish in community tank. Hope it helps.

It’s better to keep atleast 3-4 betta in sorority. This will keep alpha female to not target one betta. Check which one is agressive and add that girl after 3-4 days of other bettas settle down in the tank, this will help preventing her aggressive.

Hi I have a question! I have a 55 gal sorority but bettas aren’t the only fish.. I have 5 black skirt tetras and 5 corydoras. While all my girls are doing great how many bettas are ok? My black skirts leave them alone and I don’t plan on getting more. But I love all my bettas and their unique personalities so I’d love to get more :) this is my first sorority but not my first time with bettas or fish

Yes, you can go upto 5 betta females, but personally I would avoid male in that tank, unless he is soft and best for community tank.
