Hai bro nice video.can you please tell me will it sucks all the solids from the IBC s? How many litres capacity pump are u using?and voltage?.the plumbing pipe at last IBC lifted to top and going to solid filter tank right?why it is so?I think there are three or four ways of solid sucking from ibcs.which one is better? Thank you

I think that I would raise the grow beds up to hip height. For me it is just as simple as a "back" thing and I have a bad one so the less bending down the better it is for me. Just a suggestion. Thanks for the vid, the system looks nice.

Chilli Company I would monitor your vids for such links, I know its not your fault but you can remove them and ban such users from your vids as they only harm your viewers.
@chillicompany10 жыл бұрын
ChileExpatFamily We have the grow beds at hip height. It is this height so we can minimise the bending and it will give the height we need to allow the siphons to flow into the canal.

I sure do thank you for the help. I will be working on building my system over the next year referring back to your channel.

Thanks for the video, I am really interested in aquaponics and am designing my first system. I was thinking the other day if you want to collect solids, if you can find a container with a conical bottom so you can just turn the tap and release them from the static water pressure above. Kind of how brewers dump the yeast at the bottom of a fermenter. Just a thought, what do you think?
@chillicompany9 жыл бұрын
***** Hi Scott - that's a great idea and something I have been looking for too! Unfortunately, the closest "off the shelf" item I can think of is a clear water bottle for office dispensers... If you can think of anything, then it will be worth a try - alternatively, I might fit a tap near the bottom to try and draw off the solids.

Search google or Amazon for Conical Inductor tank, I have found you can get the 15 gallon for $75 if you shop, I figure probably worth the investment. I was thinking about feeding the water just before the conical area at the bottom with a filter bed held above, then much of the poop would drop down into the conical area for removal.

I know this is a couple of years old but hopefully it will help someone. I went to the sporting goods store and got a deer feeder funnel. They are about $10-$20 and made to sit inside a 55gal drum.

Hi Great Channel. I'm looking forward to setting up my own backyard aquaponics system in the new year in my back garden I live in the north of England in Lancashire. I will have a greenhouse or polytunnel set up. I noted you keep rainbow trout which is my plan also due to their low temperature tolerance. I'm not sure I should keep the fish in the greenhouse or outside. Mainly due to heat rise in the summer. On the other hand if I put them outside the low temperature of water my have a negative affect on my plants. What is your experience of the temp fluctuations & how do you manage the situation ? Also what do you feed your trout ? Many Thanks & any advice will be most appreciated. :-)

Tracy Fitzpatrick Hi - we keep the fish outside (but under cover) as the greenhouse gets too hot for them in the summer. We have found that the output from the fish does go down in the winter because they eat less... however, if you keep a constant feed then the breakdown of uneaten food acts in a similar way. Good luck with your system!

Hi Adrian love your system. I presume the pump is in the sump - how do you have that setup - are you sending water to the fish and the grow beds / canal at the same time ? Looks like you're using gravity to return water to sump from beds.
@chillicompany8 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike - yes, you're right... we cycle the water up to the fish from the sump and gravity feed back to the sump and also from the sump up to the grow beds. It then siphons out of the grow beds to the canal and gravity fall back to the sump.

+Chilli Company Thanks Adrian - really helpful. How big is your sump ? It looks like you have about 4000 ltr of fishtank. Are you finding the RFF and the biofilter are cleaning the water enough before it returns to the fish (I appreciate some of it is 'cleaned' by the plants too) ? May be a silly question but do you think aquaponics is worth it in the UK ? Thanks for all your'e doing...

+Chilli Company Hey Adrian, the questions below are my last - promise ! I'm sure you're very busy but it would be really helpful to hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it !

+Chilli Company Whoops - sorry, questions above :-)
@chillicompany8 жыл бұрын
+Mike Britton Hi Mike, the fish tanks are 4 x 1000l and the sump is approx 1,500l. The RFF could benefit from being larger and it needs to have a tap fitted to make it easier to empty the solids. As for AP in the UK - I think it is... Growing without chemicals has got to be good for food... Our trial system is great for feeding the family :-)

Please could you enlighten me as to why does your water from your bio filter go into the sump instead of going directly into your grow beds ?
@chillicompany7 жыл бұрын
Caz craft Sure :-) Its because of the fish. I need to have them outside of the greenhouse in order that the water temperature does not fluctuate severely throughout the day and night. Also, this allows me more growing space in the greenhouse. So, I have a two pump system that runs both sides from the sump. It is possible to have the fish tanks inside the greenhouse, but you must make sure they are protected from the sun and temperature changes. I hope that helps and good luck with your build!

Hi. Wont the fish get caught in the drain pipe?
@boomshine76 жыл бұрын
did the pipe before the solid filter never clog? the solids have to travel so high up there

Hi I want to set my own aqauponics system so I have a couple of questions that I would like you answering by people that are doing it How much does a small set up cost like in this video.... And do you have to have any licences aswell?? Thanks for reading hope for a reply
@chillicompany9 жыл бұрын
martin ian edwards Hi Martin, As for cost - it can be on a "budget" if you use recycled IBC's, recycled wood and plastic liners - or more expensive if you use purpose built tanks, new wood and longer lifetime liners... We have opted for the longer term option (but with IBC's). Our setup will cost you a couple of thousand pounds to reproduce. As for licences... if you want to trade the products then you will need an inspection from your local Environmental Health Officer and a fish licence from CEFAS. If you are building a system to support your friends and family without selling the produce then you do not need any licences. Good luck with your system!

i like you poly tunnel where can i pick one up from
@chillicompany9 жыл бұрын
Hi Greg - we usually pick up our poly tunnels online - either new or if there is a good one locally then from eBay. The tarp was made to measure - so look online and you can see local manufacturers of banners or vehicle curtains that can make one your size. Good luck with the growing!
