Don't worry new driftwood tends to grow white fungus but it will go eventually even if you don't remove it and it is not harmful remove it if you don't like it

Even I had this. But removing with brush or adding any additive any not help. It just grows back. Water changing once in week to 10 days may keep it in control. Also i have tried any fishes or shrimp that would clear this
