I like these type of videos. You actually learn something. I would love to see short videos with tips on individual plants...

& just to add something constructive... I found it hard, at the start, because people were saying "Your plants need a lot of light to thrive", but at the same time "Too much light in your tank is bad!". It took me some time to work out that yes, they need light BUT a lot of light usually meant a lot of algae & that's WHY they were saying a lot of light was bad. Seems obvious to those who know... not so much to new kids! I killed quite a few plants, erring on the light is "bad" side, until I worked out for myself why it WAS good (if that makes any sense!) Thanks again!!

Pasta la vista... Sorry, I couldn't help myself.Great videos, great series. Can't understand one thing. Why people don't care about all the Mumbo-Jumbo-Hubba-Bubba-Stuff? I find it very interesting! Especially when I have results! Mumbo-Jumbo-Bubba-Jabba-The-Hut results! But I have the explanations about it! When something works and you don't know why is even more frustrating than when it's NOT working and you don't know why! Maybe it's just me... Keep up with the good stuff!
@TheWaterBox6 жыл бұрын
It's simple, some people don't have the drive or passion to get that deep into something. I find most of the time, they just aren't taught right or taught in such a boring way that they don't want to learn it. I find teaching people that it's actually fun to learn something and still be able to understand it is possible gets a lot more people that passion to go the extra step to learn more.

I think a lot of us wished we paid attention in science class. lol But it's easy to balance during the cycle. It eases you in and you don't have to worry about fish so you can blast co2 to try and find certain balances.

I came across a lot of stuff on KZbin and Google regarding planted tanks and aquascaping. I have to admit, your videos make a lot of sense. Some very basic things which not a lot of people shares. Can not thank you enough for this. Right now, I'm working on giving my black ghost knife fishes a 500 lit+ natural tank. I've been doing some research on them, and they do require good volume of water, low light, hiding places and good oxygenation. I'm having some problem with the last part. If I do add an additional pump for oxygenation (for the fish), would it hurt my plants? I'd love to hear from an expert on this matter.
@TheWaterBox6 жыл бұрын
No. Watch my Co2 series and I explain the equilibrium between O2 and Co2. If you're not injecting Co2 and just letting it go naturally, then you want more water agitation for gas exchange. More O2 level, the more Co2 level "available" to go into your tank. In summary anyways. Watch the series. :) It'll explain it. kzbin.info/aero/PLl7jTu1aWwVbYYdLkO80_fBQkADKW_doW

Nothing. Just make sure you have surface agitation so the i2 and co2 can keep a good equalibrium.

well there is a setting thats called full sun on my light fixture and it lowers the white light and adds red light to the mix so that there is a nice warm color to it but its suppose to simulate a full sunny day would that be worth a try
@Ad_Astra_3216 жыл бұрын
From what I know, 6 hours is known to be the "happy medium". Usually enough for your plants & won't cause algae mania. That's worked for me. I just have a fairly basic but full spectrum light on my tank though, so I can't help ya with that super light ya got there ;)

I have a question or help about the dry start method. I start my dry start tank bout 2 weeks agoand now i have started to developing a white fuzzy mold on my drift wood. How do I get rid of and prevent it. Also what to do prevent spreading.. Also it's only on the drift wood none of my plants please and thank you
@TheWaterBox6 жыл бұрын
It's part of the process with your driftwood decaying. In the aquarium, you just let it be and it'll go away. I don't know about it suring the dry start method. It should go away over time as well as it's decaying based on the humility in the tank. You can try spraying hydrogen peroxide on it.
@jayzjay9166 жыл бұрын
The Water Box thanks for the info I'll try a quick dip in peroxide but if it will go away over time I am hopeful I just don't want it to spread to my carpeting plants

i cant find anyone to tell me what the readings should be on a week old planted tank,ph?ammonia?nitrates?nitrites?
@TheWaterBox4 жыл бұрын
Because every tank is different. There is no solid, "this should be your readings in a week" . It sounds like you just set up the tank so it cycling right now. So you just wait until your ammonia, nitrites read zero and you get some reading on nitrates to know you're done cycling and adding fish. PH is dependent on your water and what's in it out of the source and what you add to it (if anything). That's a whole different matter.

DANG IT!! You made this video over a year ago and I am just now finding you!!! As long as your videos are on, I am gonna watch them. I love your method of explaining the cycle and I really want to try added CO2, but as simple as it may be to you, It scares the devil out of me. W h y? I have never deal with it. I am hoping you have a video on here that SHOWS the correct way to do it. I can listen all day, but there is something screwy with my brain. Im a lefty and everything is,backwards. All these beautiful plants are dying in my tank . I have tried all of it. Good aquasoil, plant tabs, excel, N/P/P Iron and now a bottle of Co2 plus easy green. .. Nada Now, my little 5 gal, which WAS a holding tank, has plants crawling out!! and I do,nothing to this tank??? I lucked out and I Want co2 in my 55 & 75. Going to find your videos. Wish me luck. Your knowledge helps alot more than you know. If you live anywhere in the South East, I will PAY to have it installed AND,shown how not to kill the whole tank!
