Rachael O'Leary shows how to use a chop-stick rubber banded to the siphon hose helps when cleaning a heavily planted tank, I think it would work for sand also, and it would be long enough to rake the sand for gas pockets too. 😉

great idea with the bic pen. I always thought you had to wait at least 15 min after you add your conditioner to add your bacteria.

You could really just cut your tube so you don’t need to put that extra piece on there. Just leave a little tail on the end of it pretty much just like what you got but you don’t have to worry about the tape falling off.
@MAW511872 жыл бұрын
Well then you cant attach the bigger tube back on if you want with out cutting the tube some more.

Suggestion: Use a big vacuum, just enough you can clean your substrate efficiently. Then just put a container at the end of your siphon to collect the sand and just put it back end once you're done cleaning.

i'm gonna try this. I have fine sand in my Egypt theme tank with one Betta fish and poop just sits on the top and the sand gets dark spots. not sure what that is but its a nightmare to clean. I want to switch to a different sand as I don't want to lose the effect of the theme. How do I take all the sand out?
@loganlab71747 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't have considered that sand. I have small gravel similar to that and i syphon it with the python and it does not get sucked up.

@@jdofishtank6018 what's the difference between aragonite sand and regular sand? That doesn't look like sand
@jdofishtank60186 жыл бұрын
Todd Fisher I think aroganite is crushed coral, stabilizes PH
@toddfisher50406 жыл бұрын
@@jdofishtank6018 Yeah that's not sand, after you've established positive bacteria you'll notice you have something called live rock, there's a pretty big difference
@jdofishtank60186 жыл бұрын
Todd Fisher so.....if you take a big rock and pulverize it it becomes sand, if you take a piece of coral and pulverize it it becomes sand. Any sand or substrate you have in your tank will grow B.B., live rock is a term for saltwater.

So, I put my siphon tube thing on wrong, so the larger tube with the filter is on the other end where water comes out. 1. The tiny hose doesn't get half the debris on the sand, and 2. If the sand is stirred up like that, it sucks up a large portion of sand. Without the filter, it just goes into the bucket... lol this won't for work. Also, I might cut off the tip of the hose tommorow so that I can put the wide end with the filter on the right side lol. I'm a noob, I make mistakes too. ;)
