I love tannins in my water. I think it looks pretty. I remember when the 800 gallon was full of tannins. I thought it was gorgeous! My next re-scape is going to be a black water biotope-ish tank for my betta imbellis and coccina. I can appreciate that tannin filled water is not for everyone or for every fish. I think your tanks are looking really good.

I'm not sure of if I like it or not. I have a lot of it in one of my aquariums at the moment, because of some new roots that I've put in there. I refuse to do anything special to remove it, knowing some put in a lot of chemicals and so that will help. But I mean, it's not bad for the fish so... Some day it will end, and my tank for sure looks better with the roots and this darker water than it did before so I'm still happy.

Hey Cory. Random thought. Not sure if it will be helpful, but you could have a valve from the 76 degree water and send it to your sink so you don't have to worry about temperature even when you get the sink fixed.

I have a python hookas well but I don't like how it blows the substrate around. So I built my own system with PVC and I add a tee fitting to the output which diffuses the spray to the sides in my tank. But I definitely need to order some new test strips. I also found that purigen works great at removing tannins. I recharge my purigen packets with an ultra sonic jewelry cleaner in just minutes. Tanks look great. My new years goal is to redo my planted tanks after my loaches tore them up while battling pest snails.

My prefilter is always super gross, I do it every week with my water change (in left over dechlorinated water). It's crazy how quickly it builds up, even in a 58 gallon tank. I do a 10% water change weekly, and add a little liquid fertiliser for the plants.

Thanks for explaining and changing the hardness chart on your test strips. Mine never matched the colors and so I didn't know if it was ok. My water is very hard and matches the last color on your new chart. I also didn't realize that my nitrates being 10 or less was too low for my plants. Also good to know I can give a second pump of easy green to my planted 10 gallon.

In regard to the wood/tannin issue. I am of the same mind as you. I love the look but don't like a tannin filled tank. On tanks where I run HOB's or Cans it's not an issue as I will run just a little chemical media once in a great while. Unfortunately in my nano systems that are sponge filter only it's not that easy. A definite negative for traditional sponge filters. I keep a tiny little HOB just for running chemical media on the nano tanks when I have to. I put it on each tank for about 24 hours and it clears the tannins and then get's moved to the next tank. A PITA for sure. Thanks for sharing another "day in the life" with us. It's kind of like the old days minus the concrete blocks...LOL!

I hate sales that aren't sales. Either a new model i coming, but they don't tell you. The new thing is so much better that you feel the sale should've been at a much lower price. It would have served me to get the new one bc of the improvements. Or they just never sold it to that higher price. I just bought a winter jacket, new brand for me. Half price, that can't be bad? But when I came home and checked it up more thoroughly, this specific jacket (the only one fitting me) was not the item I thought I bought. I trusted the store (because long time customer), but when you trick people to pay 50% of from a fantasy price - and on an older model - you make the customer feel dumb and a fool. I don't mind paying for quality and reliability if that's an honest transaction. Being played, not so much. I applaud Aquarian Coop for making sense in a sometimes greedy business.

For the 800G. Would you ever consider a lower intake position for the sake of helping pull waste off the bottom. I imagine it takes a lot for the intake to pull that from the bottom as opposed to something closer to the bottom.

I’d be interested in hearing how you minimize utility costs, and what tips you may have
@AquariumCoop10 ай бұрын
My utilities aren't that high. Have a tight fitting lid on all tanks, use a dehumidifier to heat/take humidity out of the room. Invest in energy efficient leds and an air pump. I also insulate the room really well sealing up any cracks. Once you do all of that, the room pretty much runs itself. It stays the right temp once you've heated the water up to 78 degrees or so.

Hey whats wrong with tannins! lol I personnaly love the color because it gives a more natural look for fresh water, especially when the water is still clear and you can see right through it, like in your tanks! its not like its cloudy or anything, In my opinion the clear water no tannin look gives it an unnatural look and its not as "peaceful" and sedative as a tank with clear water and bright white lights (blue spectrum has been known to keep you awake). I honestly love it, and will think about adding some tannin into my 5 gallon tetra tank to give it a more natural calming vibe :D

And none of them have been affected by this fungus. They're all active. Eating well and I've had no deaths. What can I use? To get rid of this. Try to siphon it up. But. This white fungus has fused. The substrate Into one piece have to stop. What can I use to get rid of this they need to be fish safe. What products the names and where I can find it.
@CoralReefkid10 ай бұрын
Sounds like excess food rotting in the sand bed, as a reef aquarist my instinct says try to wait it out and see if it goes away. The fungus is feeding on something, keeping your water in balance. Maybe whatever nasty it’s feeding on in there will deplete over time along with the fungus, but I’ll say if it re occurs for over a year then definitely consider layering almost an inch of some fine sand over 6 months time until you cover it. See if it grows over it again. It’s normal to have white fungus in a deep sand bed. Growing on the surface is definitely weird sounding
