I wonder how many other people would have a need for 6" deep bulkheads? Actually has me thinking...I wonder how many people in the world have built diy wood/fiberglass tanks like these?

Another great video! I don’t know how you move so fast with these builds! 😅 If we blink, we’ll miss something! lol everything looks spectacular! I appreciate you pointing out that you used polyester resin on the fiberglass! It’s the little things that counts. Glad your shark hit the salt on the way down and is doing good. That was a close call. Looking forward to the next video! I’ve said this many times already but I’ll say it again. By far the best plywood aquarium builder on KZbin! You deserve all the success you’ve been getting! 🫡 Have a great week my friend!

Interesting, I like the sacrificial bulkhead concepts. I Never thought about that idea!!! Are you not glueing it to the pipe though? You would think the nut would pull back on it, but then again if the OD & ID are that tight, it might work.
@AquariumDomain.Ай бұрын
Yeah once I find the right place for the thread I mark it and then cement the extra thread and then the main bulkhead. You have to do the cementing part very quickly, so no real time to film that, but I should have mentioned it 🙂

I also like the bulkhead extension idea however, in Canada at least, those bulkheads are so expensive they would push the cost of what you did to $50 or more each. The solution I have come up with is to 3d print threads for projects instead of buying them. I could print that thread perfectly for a few cents worth of PLA+ and a few drops of super-glue to attach it to the pipe. I can't wait to see these monster tanks full of water!
@AquariumDomain.Ай бұрын
Thankfully I stocked up on 2" bulkheads a few years ago before the price of everything went crazy, so cutting a couple didn't hurt too bad. 😊

Put the wood horizontally, and make it only 1/2 to 1 inch shorter than the width of the trash can... That will also help prevent the straps from crushing the trash can.

Some amazing tips in this video. Since the King of DIY is already in use, I think maybe we should go ahead and crown you Sovereign of DIY, lol. Your builds are moving along nicely. Just a matter of time before you get to the water test. What kind of sand do you use for those builds? I saw some really nice golden-colored sand called "lapis gold." For the next big build, I'm definitely getting some since I'm tired of the white pool filter sand look. Keep it up!
@AquariumDomain.Ай бұрын
Hey Phil! For freshwater builds I use the good quality play sand from home depot (tan color) and for marine builds I use HTH pool filter sand...white larger grains...beautiful stuff...but sadly more expensive 😊
@Ian-qw1zbАй бұрын
I know it's harder to find but black silicone would have a better look... And if you tighten the nut onto the cut piece of threads won't it walk itself back off the pipe.. seems like you would only be able to snug it down not really tighten it until it just starts to squish the seal. Probably be better to glue it in place.
@AquariumDomain.Ай бұрын
Good reminder...I do actually have a couple of tubes of black silicone, that would be worth using on the bulkhead sealing bead. Once I find the right spot on pipe for the thread I mark it, back it off, apply cement and move it back into place, then cement the main bulkhead as well....so it is all cemented together. 🙂
@DiscusNTАй бұрын
7:25 why not just make a wood box, then slide the rubbermaid bin into it ? Clean look and far more sturdy.
@AquariumDomain.Ай бұрын
Short answer is cost. To get the needed strength it would take thicker plywood and bracing. The straps and scrap wood solution is like $5. Appearance isn't an issue as it will be behind a veneer that will cover the entire side of the tank.

So are you the shark wrangler or a shark whisperer? Lol. I mean how many people could say that they hugged and cuddled with a shark! On a more serious note, I wanted to chime in about bulkheads. I am sure you already know this but just in case... they "do" sell bulkheads with looooooooong thread sizes. I always assumed that they came in standard and imagine my surprise when I have accidentally stumbled on a "short thread" bulkhead and that led me down some rabbit holes. I have no idea how long they actually are but on some pictures that I have seen, there are bulkheads with like 8-10 inches worth of thread so that maybe something worth looking into down the road.
@AquariumDomain.Ай бұрын
I would like to be the Shark Whisperer, but so far I have been the Shark Wrangler lol. I didn't know about the custom size bulkheads...looked into it some and the 2 sites I found had a lot of options, but they were quite pricey. 😊
