I feel like the whole planted aquarium thing is just one big marketing scheme, like introducing to smoking in high school. After a lot research, I ditch the cookie cutter aquascape and go bare bottom. Save $ on substrates and live plants. The pros of going bare bottom with simple Aquaponics setup. My fishes finished all their foods. The bottom of the tank stay sparky clean. My hang on household plants eliminated ammonia and algae. Water change only take a few minutes and I don't have to trim plants or gravels vacuum. A win win for me. My filter media contain 8 bio balls and 2 sponge floss (the white and blue type) Here is the sceenshots of my tank. imgur.com/gallery/201V8IU Any suggestions for my tiny self cleaning tank? I lol'd at one of the guppy staring at my background photo. "You can make this hobby as easy or difficult, as cheap or expensive as you want. -bmrigs

@@condorX2 think how much money you can save if you just don't buy an aquarium , you can just watch videos on youtube isnt that fun??. you can save on fish, water, fake decorations, time. i'm being sarcastic by the way.
@condorX24 жыл бұрын
@@juscallmej Heh. I do both. I build a self cleaning aquarium, where I don't have to do anything. Then I look for planted aquarium videos to watch on my old CRT TV. I would ask the video uploader how much it would cost them to put all those together and they mostly reply "over a few thousands". Here is my Aquaponics self cleaning tank. It cost me only $ 80 3 months in and not a single poop. I made that for my mom. The fishes have a better place than there were before in a brown stinky bowl. Here a simple home make video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jamogGuHfbxskMU How about you stranger? What's your story?
@TruTxn823 жыл бұрын
@@condorX2 personally whether bare bottom works or not, to me it looks horrible and unnatural. I’ve always felt that way even with Saltwater. Sure there can be pros, but I’d rather spend the time and money to maintain a beautiful tank, bc at the end of the day it’s a hobby. The “work” you put into it should be enjoyable. That’s why we do it. Cheers
@condorX23 жыл бұрын
@@TruTxn82 Well you need to get creative with bare bottom. I use those transparent tiny suction cups to hold my plants underwater. The reasons I did that is because I hate gravel vac. The other reason is for experiment. I wanna see how many uneaten foods get drops down and I'll know much I should put the next time. My final reason to see how effective is my self cleaning filter would work for my specic tank. The level of water flow need to be perfect. If the current is to strong, the water will pushed the poop away. This is why people have so much poop in their bare bottom, but I masters it. The other important thing many missed is that rocks and other obstacles will blocked the poop from moving. My fishes help clean the poops by pushing it with their mouths without a wave maker. I'm constantly testing new build to get that perfect setting. That's the fun part because I'm not using cookie cutter like everyone else.

I request an aquarium! I think it would be an AWESOME aquascape if you were to create sort of a volcano in the center or corner of a large square tank, and use only red plants (or plants that grow to BE red) , wood that looks red or orange, and lots of red and orange and yellow rocks placed about the tank. The setup in this video is SO beautiful!

The aquascaping tutorial you made is super inspiring. Pretty magical 'scape. The technique of starting the foundation of the elevated corners with volcanic mineral, does that serve a specific ecological or mechanical function? Similarly, adding the power sand as a second layer, was the for function or style? Would it have been deleterious to have built up the whole foundation and substrate with just aquasoil? Sorry for the ignorant questions, but I am still learning the aquascaping hobby. Looking forward to watching more creations from you!

Buongiorno, splendido aquascape! Grazie mille!

Very beautiful aquascape. One possible improvement in the video could be if you include more information on the plants (how tall they get, wether they can come out of the surface, the lighting and co2 conditions, etc) apart from the botanical names of course. This may make your video more beginner-friendly.
