Same as you, sir. I drank a ton of city water and my wife didn't. I have thyroid problems, but more importantly advanced stage 4 prostate cancer. Had no family or lifestyle history to suggest cancer risk. On a lark, we sent the city water to be tested for EDCs (Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals) ie. estrogens and estrogen mimickers. The levels were substantial, particularly perchlorate and steroid hormones. At only 49, this disease is melting my bones and I implore everyone who is able, to safeguard themselves from these substances with filtration such as this.

+simeric2 Horrible! Very sorry to hear that. I hope you are able to recover. We certainly have to take our health into our own hands and not blindly follow government guidelines. Too much corruption and not enough good for the sake of what is right. The AquaTru didn't seem to reverse things for me, or stop the progression of my hypothyroidism in the months I used it exclusively, however, I am still on the lookout for solutions that help me take more control of the quality of what I ingest.

The Deer Park water probably has minerals introduced after the RO treatment and that's probably why it reads higher than the Aqua Tru. From what I've heard RO water is bad for you if you don't put the minerals back in. I helped a plumber with a large commercial scale RO system once and I asked why all of the regular water was in copper pipe but the RO was in plastic. He said that the RO is so pure that it absorbs minerals fast and ruins the copper pipes. Maybe this is what goes on inside your body if the minerals aren't put in? I'm still learning and hope to figure that one out soon.

Thank you very much for doing this unboxing and testing. I've been seriously considering buying this unit. I currently have one of those undersink RO units that waste a lot of water and are huge. I'm going to become nomadic and want to still have access to my RO water--which I re-mineralize like I would if I were drinking distilled water--so a portable unit is right up my alley. I've known of this unit for a couple years and have wanted to find a good review of it, so thank you again. RO and distilled water are the best you can get, but you should take care to add minerals to it if your diet isn't absolutely pure and wonderful (not common in our modern society). I would like to mention that the problem with most city water is in fact the fluoride when speaking of thyroid issues. It's not the chlorine, though you don't want that either (the carbon filters remove chlorine but not fluoride). It's the fluoride that's displacing iodine in our body, and that's what causes thyroid problems. Fluoride and iodine are both halogens that can displace one another, along with bromide. We need very little fluoride and bromide compared to how much iodine we need. We're taking in much more of the former two, in general, and iodine is lacking in our food supply. Iodized salt isn't enough to balance the scales when faced with so much fluoride and bromide. Research iodine deficiency and fluoride toxicity. You will learn a lot.

Thank you so much for this video. I also purchased an AquaTru countertop unit. The owners manual DOES NOT reiterate the video claims. In fact, the manual says it eliminates Chlorine 'taste'. I called customer service asking for something in writing that matched the video claims; they said they were having independent testing done and they would not send me anything in writing. I asked for a shipping label to return the product, they refused. Fair warning.

Spring water would contain minerals, so that would probably explain the extra dissolved matter. A problem with reverse osmosis filters is that, as well as removing all the toxins, they remove the healthy minerals too - and distilled water has absolutely nothing in the way of minerals. This means it is 'dead' water, and because of this, it can actually leach minerals from your body. So it is very important if you drink reverse osmosis filtered water that you supplement with good quality minerals - preferably added to the water. You could do this with a pinch of good quality unrefined sea salt or Himalayan salt added to your water - not enough to make it taste salty though. Distilled water probably shouldn't be drunk at all. If you have a full sized under sink reverse osmosis filtering system like I do, it's a good idea to get one with an alkalizing filter, which adds minerals back into the filtered water. But make sure you get a good brand of alkalizing filter - I've heard there can be some dodgy 'minerals' in cheaper or less reputable brands.
@badweetabix5 жыл бұрын
Incorrect and bad information. You do not simply add salt to re-mineralize water that had been filtered or distilled. When the word "mineral" as used in reference to water, it means minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Nowhere in any scientific sources does it say your water needs sodium (salt). Furthermore, the human body does not use water as the chief source for minerals. Calcium in an inorganic form such as minerals in water is very difficult to absorb. It would take over 7 gallons of mineral water to get the same amount of calcium from 1 serving of milk, cheese, or a handful of almonds. The same applies to magnesium and potassium which you can get in much greater amount from one serving of any kinds of fruits.

+TheplanetIsNuts I don't know about coconut filters. Well done, good overview. However, there remains a lot of misunderstanding about water, the most important life supporting substance known to humans (apart from oxygen). Firstly, a fridge filter - like many other carbon based purifiers - does not reduce total dissolved solids (TDS). They are not designed to remove dissolved minerals due to their very basic technology. However, not many consumers realise the majority of minerals in tap water are not easily utilised at the cellular level. The vast majority of health supporting minerals are found in FOOD - e.g. plants. And don't forget, the dissolved pieces of rock in tap water are themselves absorbent and will contain toxic metals, drug residues, growth hormones and other non-healthy substances. Therefore it is physically impossible to 'filter' or clean these minerals with a standard water filter! So the best solution is to remove them - and only a distiller or R/O system is able to do that effectively. Fact: women who regularly drink chlorinated tap water are 80% more likely to develop breast cancer than women who DO NOT drink chlorinated tap water. That is no surprise as chlorine is carcinogenic and the human body retains around 50% of all chlorination by-products that are ingested through the skin, lungs and mouth. Concerned about your health? Time to get real!
@CommanderRiker04 жыл бұрын
Maybe somebody here could explain this to me. This system adds the rejected contaminant water back to the source water while its filtering. I've seen many, many RO systems, and I've never seen that. This type of system will run more contaminants through the filters instead of dumping the waste water separately. Surely this has an effect on filter life.

How often are you supposed to change the filter?
@woodchuk13 жыл бұрын
The device itself tells you when to change the filters. The pre filter is good for 6 months, the VOC filter 1 year or 3000 L, while the RO filter is good for 2 years or 5000 L. The tap water tank hold 4 liters or slightly more than a gallon. So roughly every 600 cycles for the pre filter and VOC filter, and every 1200 cycles for the RO filter. How long that takes to happen depends on how often you use it. As an aside, the special descaling filters can be used indefinitely....they aren’t single use only, nor do they have an expiration date after the first use.

Since my TSH levels didn't improve, and repeatedly filling the container got old, I abandoned that strategy.

How is it that no one noticed that he held the tester 22 seconds in the tap water, 30 scds in the fridge filtered water but only 12 scds in the Aqua tru filtered water. May be nothing or is it??
@TheMadHermit5 жыл бұрын
Reviewing the video I am counting about 22 seconds, then 26, then 12. Different times for sure so I understand the concern but if memory serves (this was recorded over 3 years ago), this was B-Roll footage of the test that I repeated a few times because I didn't capture the readings clearly on the camera the first time around. As a result, I probably tested each cup for 20 seconds the first go-around and 10 seconds each during the second run. The first two were probably from test group one and the last cup's footage was from test group two. Either way, the results were the same so I erred on making sure you could see the results at the end. Also the results come in pretty immediately. If you watch each test closely, each result is pretty much in within 4 seconds. You can see the tap water hit 105, the filtered 104 and the Aqua Tru 10 which is pretty much identical to the final results many seconds later. Hope that helps.

Wondering if since you have been using this for several years now, has there been a change in your health?
@TheMadHermit5 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately no. I used it for several years but was not able to reverse my hypothyroidism. Of course, the manufacturer never claimed it would, but my personal biohack experiment did not produce the results I had hoped for. On a different note, I was able to lose 32 lbs in the last year and a half through diet and exercise. Was 5'10" 193 lbs and am currently 161.7 lbs. So there's that. Maybe I will do a video on it. :)

@@TheMadHermit, sorry that wasn't the answer... congrats on the weight loss though and I can't help but believe drinking water containing less toxins does offer benefits. What about the machine, were you happy with it long term, did it hold up? Many thanks for sharing.... much appreciated and look forward to hearing how lost the 32! :-)
@TheMadHermit5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I am sure water containing less toxins is definitely beneficial. I stopped using the machine after several years because I got tired having to constantly refill it. I drink about 8 glasses of water a day which meant I had to refill it daily. I also (after several years of use) never received any indication that it was time to change the filter. This may be due to the fact that a power outage can reset the "counter". So it always had me wondering which, if any, filters needed changing and had me concerned I was drinking water from potentially ineffective filters.
@jwoolman55 жыл бұрын
The Mad Hermit - just slap a label on it and mark the date when you change the filters with a sharpie so it doesn't fade like ink or pencil. The instructions should give you guidelines for how long to expect the filters to last depending on how much water is filtered. I also can tell from the change in taste, but in your case that won't help because lucky you don't gag on your tap water! Those filters can last quite a while, actually.

Nice Video. I have a few Questions please;. Does Aqatru remove other contaminants? Does it remove all minerals, if yes then one needs to add them back. Does it Ionize the water? These are important things to think about. Based on other videos I have seen. Thank you in advance for your response Sir.
@TheMadHermit7 жыл бұрын
+Ann Gill According to their FAQ AquaTru is designed to remove three type of water contaminants (organic and inorganic chemicals and biological contaminants). They also say, AquaTru purifies the water using 4-stage reverse osmosis, the same type of purification used by all the major water brands to create pure drinking water. AquaTru creates low TDS (total dissolved solids/minerals) water similar to major bottled water brands. If you want to add minerals back they sell an ionic mineral concentrate called "AquaTru Perfect Minerals". Check out the FAQ section on their page for more a more detailed explanation of their filtration system's capabilities. bit.ly/1onnDmb

Carbon filters just remove larger molecules (they get trapped in the many empty voids in the activated charcoal) which often affect taste and smell. So of course they would not affect the mineral content of water, which is what your hardness tester is testing. So the carbon filter in your fridge unit is doing something, just not what the prefilter (helps remove particulates) and reverse osmosis filters do. Either your taste buds are shot or your tap water doesn't have a lot of the volatiles that make my tap water taste yuck. I can't stand the taste or smell of my tap water since they allegedly worked on the sewage system back in the 1970s.... Carbon filtration helped but was not enough, I need reverse osmosis to have good tasting water. Aquafina bottled water (tap water filtered by carbon and reverse osmosis) tastes almost as good as water from my old countertop Shaklee BestWater system, which has the same types of three filters shown for the AquaTru. The BestWater attaches to the faucet and does not use electrical power to pump water through the filters, just water pressure. Shaklee no longer sells the countertop BestWater system and worse, has stopped carrying the replacement filters.... So I'm looking for a replacement once my last set of filters is gone. Getting away from fussing with the faucet might be helpful, so AquaTru is in the running. The big cost over the years is the filter replacements, not really the original price of the unit. I think decades ago when I got the BestWater, reverse osmosis systems were typically in at least the $300 range, so the price of the AquaTru isn't outrageous. Fun fact: the soda your wife drinks most likely starts with pretty well filtered water, possibly run through reverse osmosis. Would have to ask the manufacturer. In countries where getting clean water is difficult, soda can be a popular substitute although it is disastrous for teeth. The additives all just make it into that particular beverage, they aren't actually contaminants.

I don't know. A quick google search suggests RO systems can remove some forms of radiation but I can't speak to what kinds or if this unit can do it. I would direct that question to AquaTru for a firm answer to that question.

So what do you do with the waste water? Not down the sink or the toilet, I hope... Because of the higher-than-normal levels of contaminants, (a) you don't want that on your body, (b) you don't want it in your house, (c) You don't want to feed it to your plants or pets, (d) you DON'T want to further contaminate your community's water by dumping it down the sink, down the toilet, etc.
@Broxine3 жыл бұрын
Its the same ammount than it was before. Do you think more contaminants appeared out of thin air? You dont have MORE contaminants, you just have it concentrated. You would have flushed it anyway if you hadndt filtered it.
