I like the style of lights Quebec uses on its freeways; reminds me of lights used on freeways in Alabama, New Orleans and parts of Louisiana.

Those "floodlight" fixtures are from the 60s and very specific to Montreal. Sadly, they probably won't be around for long as they are getting replaced by LED fixtures. I also miss the catenary low-pressure sodium lights in Eastern Montreal. (replaced by high masts 10-20 years ago)

The beginning of the video was on a route designated A-720 in the past. The route was actually supposed to be A-20 but the MTQ preferred that the trucks use the Champlain instead of of the two tunnels (Ville-Marie -136 and Lafontaine A-25). So the whole route became A-720 and was signed as such. The designation QC-136 means that they have given up on a freeway at the harbour but it would be nice to retain the spur designation, A-720 on the freeway portion. A-720 direction signs still exist and I found one in your Montreal streets video. The Congress center that you see entering the second tunnel is built on Air rights. Then it becomes a hard rock tunnel under the downtown. The first tunnel was built under the Champs des Mars on a cut and cover basis.

The MTQ wanted to finish the original A20 project 15-20 years ago but they canceled it after too much opposition.

@@lajya01: It still would be designated A-720 if the completion had gone through. The change of A-20 to concurrency with A-15 and QC-132 was made Permanent during the early '80's. The Ville-Marie would always be a spur.

My family and I visited quebec city last september taking autoroute 20 to the city of quebec and learn about the french speaking region and visited some parks there like the Montmorency falls. Its beautiful. The church we went to in Montreal is very ancient and beautiful too

The eastbound & westbound lanes of A20 used to be reversed (westbound lanes on the south side, eastbound lanes on the north side) with railroad tracks in the median from the Turcot Interchange (at 7:42) to the Saint-Pierre interchange (10:55)

I see L'Île Perrot still have those at-grade interchanges. It's substandard for an Autoroute designation.

I call them Pretend Autoroutes like Autoroute-50 in certain sections with the 'Super-Twos' or A-55 between A-20 and the Trois-Rivieres bridge. The worst are the lights at Dorion. Remember this is the main highway between Toronto and Montreal. Though most truckers would prefer the A-20, -30, -40 combo over the Ile-aux-Tourtes bridge(currently being replaced). This is because most of the logistics is in Ville-St-Laurent-Anjou on the A-40 corridor. The original alignment was supposed to proceed south towards at the turn were he turned off (Don-Quichotte [Don-Quixote]) to the Hydro ROW, crossing the Ottawa halfway between Dorion and Pointe-aux-Cascades and bending north to meet the A-540(A-30 now)
