Like millions out there, I’m a big fan of A R Rahman. He is an inspiration to me more than anything else.
Inspirations are everywhere, there are only bad and good way of getting inspired. Some do blatant copies of other creative works, some use patterns from other works and some cleverly uses inspirations to create even better art. ARR is among the last category, in my opinion.

I dont think it is copied. The voice is actually African tribal humming which was sampled earlier by the french group deep forest. AR Rahman just sampled the same voice again. So I think it is just a misunderstanding here. It is actually mentioned in the the film's('Muthu') wikipedia page under the music section.

To be honest, many of these songs seem coincidentally similar. I remember creating numerous melodies for my musicians and later discovering that they matched with some other music of a similar genre. The only way to know for sure is to compare the score of the music. Music follows certain patterns and following these patterns doesn’t infringe on copyright. The score will tell you for sure if the music is copied or not.

There are other songs which ARR has directly lifted like varaga nathikaraiyoram( jawani masthgalandar). All of us know that Rehman is a master in sound engineering. There are hundreds of examples of how Arr would pull bits and pieces of a thousand songs and make one song out of it. . His lifts start from very old to moderate old tamil songs, Kerala songs, carnatic folk songs, hindi old songs, African songs, europe hit songs, American.....the list goes on and on. . You can never bring on table and prove he lifted bits and pieces of others hard work and is taking credit thus, minting money doing just cut copy edit and paste. .
