I love how at the beginning her voice is high-pitched and childish, reflecting when all the desires were for peace and happiness. But then as those desires are beat down and hope shattered, the voice and lyrics get more and more mature and dark.

Yuko Ishibashi... wow. Ever since I played that part of the game, where you get to enjoy this mighty song during one of those totally unexpected twists this series is knows for, this hymn chills me to the bone. Consistently. And Yuko Ishibashi just nails the whole transformation of the voice, going from childish innocence to pitch black despair, and everything in between (11:09 such HATE. My favorite verse of the song!). The whole concept of the hymn, both what it is used for and how it achieves it is just impressive. It's peak worldbuilding and storytelling. And storytelling it is. The lyrics are actually recounting both the general story of Reyvateils and Song Magic, the tragedy of the Grathnode Inferia and the fate of the Three Towers, as well as that of the most prominent Reyvateils of them all, but also the most tragic: Eolia/Shurelia, Frelia, Tyria, Mir, Infel and Nenesha. How they were born to be something glorious, how their purpose was twisted, how their works were tainted, until they could only sing for destruction, in one way or another. Yes, Mir is the one who got by far the shortest end of the stick, but the other five also had a pretty rough, and unbearably long and lonely life until each met those that could, as the song puts it "find the path to the ideal land". Whatever that ideal land means for each of them (Lyner for Shurelia, Shun for Frelia, Aoto for Tyria, Croix for Mir, and just plain old final rest and the fulfilment of their desire for Infel and Nenesha, who are basically ghosts at that point in time). But, it does not end there! Considering the peculiarities of Song Magic, and hymns in particular, EXEC_HIBERNATION also contains the veritable deluge of emotions interwoven into the tale it conveys. And it is that deluge of emotions, chiefly the utter despair tainting the whole thing ("But the seeds are tainted with the color of dark grey", what a verse to end a song...), that it basically melts the minds of the poor IPDs and turns them into the most wicked and twisted resonance chamber ever conceived. This game may pose as a "bright and cheerful, fanservice-ridden, waifu simulator", but it has some seriously dark themes and ideas, just laying there in plain sight. I wish the whole EXA_PICO universe got a remake with modern tech, with all the know-how Gust has accumulated in recent years with the Atelier series. Just fix the technical parts, and tone down the damn fanservice and gratuitous dumb comedy, as it detracts from the overall tone of the whole thing. And in a series where "tone" is such a cardinal element... going overboard as they did is a sin (I swear, those subquests from AT 2 onward, they went too far with the "silliness" of characters like Cynthia, Saki and Finnel, Tatoria, Skycat, etc.). Anyway, my own personal grievances of the series aside, I love the whole EXA_PICO universe. Its lore, its worldbuilding, its character (yes, despite their mandatory, by-the-manual quirks and tropes), and most of all: its music. Such awesome layers it possesses!

This song doesn't recount anything like that. It's just a telling of the Zodal Rhaplanca legend from Meta Falss as per Infel's own emotions and preferences, with the second part to it being told in Implanta.

The song is fine and all listening it by itself, but when you're stuck in Bell strike hall for 2 hours listening to this nonstop because you're trying to 100% the game and get every I.P.D. that shows up in the hall at this point, you just want to tear your eardrums out...

ZephyrZXA makes me think back to those.. all my data was erased on multiple files.. but I’ll never forget it. Ar tonelico was always my favorite, even the Ar no Surge prequel. I honestly wish they’d put out more games. The dive system and just all of it was and forever shall be unique. Ar tonelico will relain forever in my heart and soul.

@@snailthelostcow63 True, they hit a cash cow formula with the start of the Arland series and ever since all they've done is repeat that just with some slight changes such as experimenting with the synthesis systems, I really feel GUST have hit upon a somewhat good method to tell a grand overarching plot that spans an entire trilogy without resorting to sequel bait with the Ar tonelico series as it felt like each game had its own complete self contained story yet also making it so each games ending was crucial for the ultimate end goal of saving the planet (i.e Mir's redemption in 1 leads to her finding a possible way to save the planet in 2 which leads to 3 and so on)

I really enjoy them as being RPG that are different in term of story than most of those games. However, I do want the Ar Tonelicos to come on Steam one day.

You know, I've just been playing this hymn to have a background for a little drawing. It isn't the first time I listen to it, however the more it went on, the more I felt attracted like a magnet to the lyrics and the feelings behind the music and then I didn't lift my eyes from the text until the end. Why bother? This song is so awesome, now words can describe the magnitud of the meaning, feelings of pain and regret feels it. They failed in translating the titles themselves, but not their affiliations: Cloche is the Maiden of Mio (Waterway), and Luca is the Maiden of Homura (Flame), and that only translates to their color schemes and roles during the singing of Metafalica, but not to their personalities and Song Magic.

Linker is more direct (just Mir "downloading" herself into Aurica), while Hibernation is basically Infel hacking into the IPDs, melting their minds, and using them to form an unholy chorus to put Metafalss in stasis. Violence can be both active and passive, and IMO, both hymns are violent as hell. One is focused (Linker), while the other is spread out (Hibernation).
