True, while Floor just came on stage for this song. And yet.... I had the feeling that Floor was holding back a bit...... Floor has a fuller, richer voice than Simone, who's voice is more delicate. Probably at least in part due to the fact that Floor is bigger, with more volume, creating more of power and resonance. They complete each other very well in this performance. Superb singing from both.

Your assumption is correct. Floor and Simone are really good fans and former roommates. Also, the guitarist (Mark Jansen,no relation) was the guitarist for Floor's first band AfterForever.

These two were roommates for awhile. Can you imagine having the apartment next door and listening to them practising? There is video on KZbin of the two of them clowning around, with Floor playing the piano. Something I notice about Floor. When she is noticeably taller than whoever she is performing with, she will often bend her knees when beside them. I think that may be an unconscious gesture, to minimize her height. Typical of her consideration.

There’s another great duet called Stabat Mater. Jansen is pronounced as this: the A is like the A in Darth (not like the A in Vader). The i in Simons is the same as the i in Simone. Simone is also a great but totally different singer as Floor. Listen to Ashes from the electric castle live and other tales. Or Hopelessly slipping away from the newest album by Ayreon, Transitus.

Middle Eastern, Indian tones are an integral part of many of Epica's songs. Regarding the two ladies, the way they weave in and out, switching high registers makes it so great. The vocal sound of Epica is the contrast between the light, high notes of Simone and the grunts/growls of the other members; mostly the rhythm guitarist Mark Jansen. Mark was in After Forever together with Floor and founded Epica when he left. Oh and Epica was named after the album Epica by Kamelot. And Simone is also married to the keyboard player of Kamelot.

Great reaction bud. If you were impressed with their drumming you should check out Wintersun- Son's of Winter and Stars. I suggest this since it features Kai the current drummer of our beloved Nightwish. That's his old band that is on hiatus at the moment since his friend Julkka the former drummer of Nightwish had to step down due to health reasons. He needed someone he knew was skilled enough to make sure nightwish had a skilled drummer and asked him. I don't know if you've watched any Nightwish with him in it yet but you'll be in for a treat!

Love your reactions, especially your Nightwish ones that include Floor :). IMHO, Epica is another amazing symphonic metal band and a definite addition to any serious fan of the genre. Simone is a gifted soprano and one of the reasons why I like Epica. An interesting tidbit that I have read a few times in Simone Simons interviews is that she never was a metal fan until around 15 years ago when her then boyfriend introduced her to Nightwish with Tarja as lead singer. Apparently she fell in love with the music and the rest is history.

Time for you to go down the Epica rabbit hole. Epica actually did another show about 5 years before this show with the same orchestra and choir called The Classical Conspiracy. It want filmed but it was recorded. That’s an amazing given the fact the band was only about 5-6 years at the time. It’s also the album that introduced me to symphonic metal which eventually to lead to all the metal bands from all over the world I listen to today. Fun fact #1 Simone was pregnant during this 3 hours show. Fun fact #2 the rhythm guitarist for Epica, Mark Jansen was in Floor’s old band After Forever. That band created some multi-part songs, some of which Epica continued. The drummer is Ariën van Weesenbeek. He is an absolute beast on the drums. Check out Mark’s other Band Mayan where Floor and Simone both provided their talents along with some other great musicians like Merel Bechtold, Marcela Bovio, Laura Macri and some members of Epica. It’s better to just not compare Floor and Simone. Both are extremely talented and have different styles but complement each other in this song and others. I have been really enjoying your videos--both the reaction videos, and the commentary on the tragedy that happened in your country at the port not long ago (I circulated those videos in some Internet circles I run in, and am hoping some of that helped to increase support for those dealing with the fallout of that event). Floor and Simone are best of friends and Floor actually worked with Simone early in her singing career. Great song by two of the queens of symphonic metal. many fans have yearned for the day that Nightwish uses an orchestra for a live performance. Tuomas has stated "It is took cost prohibitive and a logistical nightmare to travel with an orchestra for an entire tour". However he has hinted at the future hope to do a special show featuring a full orchestra and backing choir. Similar to what Within Temptation has done from time to time. I await that day with anxiously and hope that it will surely become an epic Blu-ray release. Great reaction video my friend. Peace.

Ya, devil and the deep dark ocean by nighwish, what a song and what a name for a song ! I heard epica before Floor joined nighwish, they were cool but I’ve been swept away with nightwish since 😅. Oh there’s a vid out there of tarja ( former nighwish singer) and Floor on stage singing together, it’s a great song but it looks a little awkward ! ( maybe I’m wrong, I hope so 🤦‍♂️) . And Floor Jansen is so amazing, nothing will stop her belting her best, not even being heavily pregnant , ya , she was kicking ass on stage with a huge baby bump !
