Wow. I never thought I'd see rollkur at a Western event. Since almost every horse is showing some degree of hyperflexion, I'm guessing it was an event requirement. But that's just wrong. One of the riders had her hand almost to her chin holding the reins taught just to get her horse to rollkur. I thought we were done with that type of nonsense. Beautiful horses, but painful to watch.

@@MagnificentHorsesit is damaging and unnatural for a horse to carry its head so far behind the vertical. It impedes the airway. And what horse would naturally go staring at the ground? To me WP horses look depressed and dull, barely able to move as they were meant to.

@sb24612 ай бұрын
Yes I understand it is unlikely. My overall view is that judges need to hold riders accountable for poor horsemanship like this. When you set this as a standard of what it takes to do well at these events, not only do you push away many who see the abusive side of it, but the flip side is you are encouraging youth riders that this is how you should ride. The Arabian horse industry is already suffering hugely with their youth and the judging is where it needs to start changing.

OMG USA what is that?? The amount of ignorance in the comments? The riders kept their horses behind the vertical, hands way too far apart or in one hand always 'correcting' the horse way too harshly, in highly debatable bits. Not to mention what kind of cruelty it must be to the animal to keep the tail long enough to be stepped on?? And it's *definitely* the riders and judges fault here, because 1) horses don't show discomfort at a level other animals do, you should be able to tell due to educating yourself on this, 2) any class to compete in was created by us humans, so 3) saying it's not the rides fault, because it's simply the way the requirements are, is bs and 4) taking good care of your horse means to not put it through all of that and KNOWING where the limits are. I ride western. I ride Arabians. But if THIS was how competitions in my area were like, I would gladly boycott them all. Because being a good equestrian means to look critically at the industry - just start with simple questions like why would you breed a horse for aesthetics in a way that it can't breathe as well as former Arabians were able to? What's the point, hm?
