Thanks for you videos Niri, you are a great help! I have this blue Kiz ney, it's one of my favourites. It is true, that it's easier to play and to learn, i'd like to share my thoughts on this matter too: In my opinion, what makes plastic neys easier to play and in a way better sounding(at least in low register) is that, unlike cane they have an even internal structure, it's rather hard to find cane that is not getting narrower at bottom notes area. And the narrower the tube, the harder it is play in a low register. Also, turkish ney masters always separate sound chamber from the rest of the ney with a very tiny hole, which makes it almost impossible to play in a low register, but i guess it gives some benefits in high ones, i don't personally think it's worth it though. Persian and arabic neys that i have have much wider holes. And, maybe someone would be intrested, neys can also be made of metal! I have a video on my channel where i play such ney, made of aluminium and brass.

Hi Niri, how to make plastic ney/kawala?

Very good Videos, thank you! If I want to play "western" scales only (i.e. no quarter tones), do I need a special "non arabic" instrument or can it be done with a special fingering?

I would like to buy my first ney to play songs that I already play on the oud eg Nassam Alayna El Hawa, Ah ya zain, Bint El Chalibaya, etc. Would a C (do) plastic ney (Dukah tuning) be a good one for this? I already play the flute (European style metal one with keys) and some other ones.

Hi Niri, thank you for the videos! You must be playing Ney for many years, cause you make it look so darn easy! I purchased the Professional Egyptian Ney 23.18" (D - Dukah) a few months ago and I am really struggling to produce sound (and; once I do, maintaining it) -- even after watching your tutorials. I am considering to get a (plastic) ney to get me going. So my question is: in terms of just producing sound by an ABSOLUTE begginner, what would be the best alternative between the Bolahenk and the Supurde?

Hello Niri, thanks for all your videos and sharing your knowledge and passion of neys and kawalas. I enjoy listening to Sufi music that includes neys. I am a complete beginner and would love to learn the ney and bansuri. Would you recommend the Kiz or Mansur for me ? or would the bolahenk and supurde still be the best option for me since I am a complete beginner? Many thanks.

I have one plastic nay in my bag, I like how it sounds but I don't like when my breath becomes water and drips from the back hole(Cibi) how do you deal with this problem? Do you make (khaznah) the first piece close to the mouth, in your plastic nays?
@TurrimAurea8 жыл бұрын
On the ney that i have(blue Kiz), the back hole is located about 30 degrees to the left, so when you play it's not on the bottom and water is not going to it. It's kind of smart now when i think about it, none of my other neys have such feature.

When you say those neys are easy for playing with piano and guitar, do you mean those are the best ones for playing Western music? I would like to play Western scales easily, not sure which ney to buy.
