@@osovagabundo1 thank you so much for the eye opening comments. I always assumed the greatness displayed by the musicians were mostly due to having the resources to bring in the best of the best. Norway should get more attention for producing fabulous artists. We should see awards shows from Europe in the US. Grammys seems to be missing in action in their choices. Makes no sense to me.

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to tonight's radio broadcast of 'Music To Sooth You With'! Tonight we're going to start things off with a song from yesteryear entitled 'Cry Me A River' made popular by Julie London way back in the 50's. The artist you will be listening to does a wonderful rendition of the song and I'm sure you will enjoy it. After the song I will do a short interview with her, one I believe you will absolutely enjoy. So, here she is, Miss Angelina Jordan singing 'Cry Me A River' !!!!!!! "

New subscriber! You're absolutely right. Angelina is at her most impressive in live performances. No autotune. No dancers. No strobe lights. Just a girl with a microphone singing and touching the hearts and souls of everyone who hears. I even love hearing the little perfect imperfections as she performs. It reminds me that she really is human after all and that the goodness that I hear is real. There are several recordings of her performing this song. Each performance is slightly different, and all of them are wonderful.

Any visit with her is a very special treat, replacing all that nasty rhetoric that seems so abundant in the media of late, with her warm tones from old classics. Just want to recommend one last time, because I enjoy your insightful, knowledgeable reactions and I truly think you'd enjoy it as much as I do: please consider a listen/analysis/reaction to Haley Reinhart's cover of Radiohead's "Creep" with Postmodern Jukebox. It is a mind-blowingly good performance, both for the composition and technicality of the piece. It has been a my favorite female vocal performance for some time, and I say that as a big fan of both Angelina Jordan and Aurora. I truly hope that this performance comes up in your queue one day, because it's truly something to witness. Fun Fact: she did the performance on the very FIRST take.

You are quite right about her looking at her music layed out on the floor. I find it intreging watching her when she has her music on a stand, in concert. Most of it is music, hand written on pieces of paper, held with little sprung loaded wooden pegs. Is mostly notes I think. Her band are using tablets, and flicking electronic pages lol. Some of the band could be more than 35 years older than AJ. The wind blows and catch's her paper notes and sends some of them flying. She just carries on singing doesn't even bother her. I've been doing live mixing for almost 50 years and you are correct when it comes to talent. Live is the place that either shines or not, especially in the old analog days, now they can do auto tune during the higher end shows. What impresses me is her tictoc's just singing into phone mic, mind-blowing pure magic. I've been waiting for this voice for a long long time As I see it she became a vocal virtuoso by the age 10, I say that because she has complete control of all the vocal tools she possesses; honestly the only thing I haven't heard her do Mongolian throat singing and opera, LOL but that doesn't mean she can't either, so we will see what happens over the next nine years or so either way it's going to be a fantastic journey. Thanks for the great reaction.

@@ArabManReactsI'll be 60 very soon. Time flies by the year when you hit 40. It's full Gallup with no reigns to slow it down. But we have the excitement of getting a ticket to hear Angelina Jordan or Diana Ankudinova in our future. It would be like seeing Ella or Nina live. A generational voice that changes culture itself. I saw Count Basie live once and you could feel the history of jazz onstage in his presence. I think Angelina is doing that too. Like an apprentice steeped deeply in a lifetime dedication. She brings the history of the great American Song book with her. It's reassuring that she will take it to generations we will never see. That's an incredible gift to culture.

She’s actually 11. At 12 she sang this with a much larger band. I prefer this performance, it’s much more intimate and dare I say sultry, considering how young she is. Whoever is occupying that soul has forgotten whose body they are in and how young it is! They have forgotten to let her grow up before beginning to sing like this. I have to keep my eyes open so I am reminded just exactly who is singing.

Arthur Hamilton (Julie London's HS sweetheart) wrote this song in 1953 for a Jack Webb (Dragnet star and Julie London's first husband) movie; however Jack thought that the word plebeian in the lyrics made the song unusable. Arthur asked Julie to release it in 1955 (kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4TXfmOtp8l5otk), which skyrocketed her to fame and fortune. Apparently more people bought Julie's albums for the "pinup" covers than the music. I must say it was tempting.

What a beautiful reaction, Boudy. I love her version of the song. Every time she interprets a song by stripping it in her own way, she seems to simultaneously increase the level of understanding of the lyrics and amplify their expressive power. Angelina's musical vision transcends the ordinary and she always manages to give a different interpretative reading, she really has a musical knowledge and analytical ability that is beyond my understanding, also considering her age. Her phrasing, underpinned by her wonderful use of breath and her jazzy vision, always fascinates me and gives me chills every time, despite having listened to it hundreds of times. 💛🧡❤

I'm not going to say that Angelina has NEVER done multiple takes on a song, as there are a couple of them out there. However, .....she is known to do virtually every recording in one take. When she covered "Back to Black" by Amy Winehouse, what you hear in the video is take #2. Angelina didn't like the first take so they did one more. And that's what you hear, start to finish. A single take. She has in the past worked with Stargate Productions, who have worked with some huge talents in the music business. Their words, not mine: "There's maybe a handful of singers out there who can take a song, sing it front to back one time and it sounds amazing. Among the artists we've worked with, #1, Beyonce..#2, Sam Smith.. #3, Angelina Jordan. It is so rare...it is such a gift..." When you see Angelina sitting at home in the U.S. with her guitarist, Ivan Mendez, knocking out songs that he probably didn't even know until 15 minutes earlier, she breezes through an incredible vocal performance, such that even HE can't believe what he's hearing. He himself said that IF they needed to do another take, it was because he screwed up, not her. I totally get where you're coming from, because it's been SOP for quite a while (especially in the digital era) to stitch together the best takes of different sections of songs, and even different lines, in order to get the best sounding performance for the record. No need with the Barefoot Princess. She works like Frank Sinatra. One take, Done. Peace to you and yours, my friend!! Blessings from Wisconsin.

You're going to end up doing almost every song from this concert. If I could attend one of her concerts from this period, it would be this one. She opens with "Lovin' You" which is her PG version of Etta James "I Just Want to Make Love to You", with all the fire of "Spell". It also has "Diamonds Are Forever" and more!

The complexity and "looseness" of singing jaz just boggles my mind. Angelina was amazing in this. She is truely an amazing jaz singer...AT AGE 11!!! Absolutely love this. I only wish the audio had been a whole lot better!!

Some very talented Angels will post-produce her live performances. Many of the live clips from her concert with the military band have been extensively enhanced.

Heh… Angelina's mom (Sara) wasn't in her mother's (Mery's) womb when this song came out (written in 1953 and popularized by Julie London in 1955). In fact, Mery wasn't even in _her_ mother's womb yet. Mery was (reportedly) born in 1961.

There is another performance of this song with a Norwegian military band, it's worth hearing its performance there, much more rhythmic, feels like a song from a James Bond movie 🎷🎙🗣👑🦶🦶

It’s from quite a concert and I guess she rests her voice a bit while maneuvering this song in a comprehensive set. No complaints.
