My favorite version of this song is by Lila Downs, a Oaxaca singer, specifically the live version from Bellas Artes in Mexico City. She sings it differently every time, but this is my favorite version by far. There are also versions in the Mayan and Aztec languages.

Aida Cuevas! She is amazing!! She had a very strong relationship with Juan Gabriel. He Baptized one of her son’s which made them “Compadres” She was the only singer to sing at his memorial service held in Bellas Artes. when he passed away. He wrote many songs for her.
