Just a minor addition, as the Wood elves (and Lothlorien as well I believe), you can get an extra armor level in Ost-in-Edhil, where the gwaith-i-mirdain functions as your advanced blacksmith.

On the topic of the Elven union script, I think an interesting addition might be a third option, that is calling upon Mirkwood's friendship with Erebor and Dale and so gaining access to some of their units. So it might be that you receive the message you're going to be attacked by Mordor and Dol Guldur (unless you've killed DG already), and are given three choices: Seek the aid of your kin in Lorien, trust to the (relatively) newly rekindled bonds with Dwarves and Men, or weather the storm alone. Maybe to make up for the fact you'll practically always be allied with Erebor and Dale their option is more involved as a defence. So you get the ability to recruit a few of their units to plug some gaps in your lineup (Dwarven infantry for example) and a mixed Human-Dwarf half stack or something, but you must not only defend Thranduil's Halls from a large attack, but 1 or 2 turns later a second, equally large attack is dropped on Dale, then another on Erebor, and if either falls your new army, the ability to recruit Dwarvish and Dalian units and so on disappears with them. Obviously not sure how viable such an addition would be, and I've no doubt it would hardly be a doddle in terms of workload, but figured I'd put it out there.

Another good idea, would be to be able to train the Avari Elves if you capture the Dorwinion Heartlands as an AOR feature. And also give you some motive to fight against Rhun.

A little noticed change in v4.5 DaC for Woodland Realm is that the unit size of most of their archers was increased by about 15 soldiers per unit, whilst their melee infantry's was decreased by the same amount. This means that Woodland Realm archers now have the most men (elves) per unit of any Elven factions. This combined with already having the best Range and Attack (not to mention their sheer volume of bow-using units) secures them as having the best archers in the game by a significant margin. Naturally, however, this means their infantry is the weakest by Elven standards. So it's wise to hold them back until your archers have pretty much gutted the enemy already and it's time to just mop up the survivors.

I didn’t really mind the fact that Lothlorien and WR were sort of copies of each other, and although I don’t mind the new units, I would’ve preferred the old 2H sword and Shield/Spear units they had. I really liked their spear unit, it had a unique looking spear model that resembled the one in the movie. Also, if adding the glaive unit was going to be controversial, maybe adding it to either the regular WR bodyguard or Thranduil’s bodyguard would’ve been a middle ground since those units are (somewhat) more scarce, especially since Thranduil’s unit depends on what choice you make. I think it fits perfectly with Thranduil’s bodyguard to be honest and it was also shown in some Hobbit concept art that looked pretty cool.

I second this. I really liked the spear/shield, and two handed sword variants from the Hobbit films. It was cool to see them recreated, and always fun to have a line of spear men, with swords men behind to charge at the last minute. If you want to give the glaive to a unit give it to the elder guard or to Thranduils guard. Or just revert back to the V3 Woodland realm. Personally I don’t think nor care if they are a clone of Lorien, the color scheme and feel is different. Better yet, get rid of the glaive.

Steelsy Unfortunately, the new units are there to stay. I doubt they’ll be changed in the foreseeable future. Our only hope is for some kind soul to make a submod that changes the units back, I’d even be willing to do it myself if I knew how. Alas, the only thing I know is how to edit unit stats and a couple other things here and there.

I agree i really liked the old Spear/shield of the Woodland Realm, But i do really like the Axeguard instead of twohanded swords. Only thing is they really should be made AP and just have attack lowered so not too OP. just a worse version of The smiths or Eregion or Better version of the Loke Rim mace and shield unit and would make Woodland realm very unique.

Something I personally did is that I further defined Lorien and Woodland Realm rosters by slightly increasing Lorien archers' range and gave them some more arrows and the opposite to Woodland Realm archers but with increased missile and melee damage instead, as well as 120% movement speed and the ability to hide anywhere. I felt this fit into their playstyles as the defensive Lorien and the aggressive, guerilla-style Woodland Realm.

Used ents recently and noticed they can be quite easily stun locked. I lost a whole unit to a unit of rhudaur huskarls. Maybe a candidate for relentless?

I'm not 100% sure but Trolls (and so are the Ents) cannot be stun loked because of its unique animation. Probably it is just high AP damage that brought down your Ents.

Correct Ents have the same animation set as Trolls and thus cannot be staggered by default. AP units are a threat to Ents due to their tiny unit size and reliance on Armour for defense, so keep them away from those.

Like trolls, they can't stay unsupported in prolonged combat. Use ents to disrupt the formation, followed by infantry support. Otherwise they kinda just roll over and die.

They use Troll anims and Trolls can't be stunlocked. Sounds like you just threw them away in a bad unit matchup tbh.

@@KitchenFSink I once fought giant Mordor army (3 nazghuls, 2 standart generals, rest mostly mid-tier units) with 4 units of Fountain guards and generals with few militia units guarding the flanks, timer went out and I lost only about 20 Fountains guardsmen (with rest of my army dead), they really are beasts :D

Having played this faction a few times, I keep coming back to it. The WR is my favourite niche faction. I feel if I had to design them, I would really lean on the "wild elves" vibe, with LOTS of javelins and lightning fast units that can hide anywhere. I love the elder council. It's arguably my favourite unit in the mod along with avari spearman and sindar axemen

This is probably my second favorite faction after Dorwinion! However, I was wondering why the elite units are so small? The elder council has 100 units, and the axeguard and gateguard are below 100. This makes for rather small looking armies and puts most of these units below combat strength after one or two fight. It just does not feel satisfactory to charge with 60 axeguard. I was comparing their stats with other units limited to below 100 strength, and it really does not feel like they should be penalized so much. The noldor veterans, for example, outclass the guateguard, but they have 101 models to their unit.

Perhaps making all axe wielding units be armor piercing is the way to go? That removes questions like "why this unit is AP and the identical one from that other faction is not".

16:57 it would be fair to argue that the Woodland Realm produces more skilled archers than the elves of Lothlorien are ahead technologically. You could represent this in game by Legolas' people having slightly higher stats overall, but Galadriel's people having superior range and armour etc.

cstrutherskgs To make the woodland Realms less of a Lothlorien copy. Personally I dislike the twinblades and one handed axemen a bit, as is my right and very subjective opinion. They already had a very good axe unit, and twinblades doesn’t feel tolkien esque at all...though I do like elves with axes in general, as it is lore accurate.

Just got done playing with the Woodland Realm - very fun faction. In the tactical defensive, Hin e-Daur are basically LOTR machine gunners. Unbelievable firepower - mine wiped out entire units of trolls before they even made contact. Campaign was interesting - Dol Guldur was a breeze as I rushed them hard in the beginning and then Dale and Lorien finished them off. HOWEVER ... Gundabad absolutely comes for you and they are an OP pain in the ass. Even though I never lost a battle to them, I walked away with 50% casualties or more from them, and that was with the amazing firepower of the archers. Their basic units are ridiculously powerful and they steamroll Anduin and even give Erebor a run for their money. Thanks again for covering all this!

Love the idea of the Wood Elves uniting! That would be great fun, and help provide more variety for nations to fight. In my last Wood Elf campaign, I sent an army to Fangorn and went after Isenguard after Dol Guldur. It was a really nice change of pace, and could be something that a unification could help bring about in more campaigns.

Minor inaccuracy in your vid. Gundabad does come for you quite often. It didn't matter if Woodland Realm was AI or player controlled, they always come for Taur Phinnin by turn 30ish.

On separating the two (non-noldor) elven realms. I always thought of Lorien as an Archer and cav heavy faction. The woodland realm is different in the Hobbit books they are said to have archers, but if memory serves spears are also mentioned. I always thought of them as a faction with powerful infantry and stealthy archers.

The Woodland Realm can get their advanced blacksmith perk from Eregion! It gives a humongous boost and is worth getting. I haven’t managed to get there yet in my campaign but I did test it.

A really strong feature of the Silvan Alliance Encampment is that it only costs ~1500 and the units require no culture to be trained. This means that you could already be producing units and having free-upkeep units in a settlement in about 4 turns after capturing it.

Is it possible to look into adding the great spiders of mirkwood? I know they used to crash the game but the team made the ents work again, so maybe the spiders could work? And make them only recruitable in Cirith Ungol, Dol Guldur and maybe another settlement in Mirkwood? Or maybe only recruitable as mercenaries in Cirith Ungol? Make them high armor (because of arachnid exoskeleton) low defense skill, bringing fear to enemies, fast moving infantry?

I played them in v3 and the early game was really fun, but i not only had to deal with Mordor. But also Rhun completely overran Dorwinion. So facing two stack spam power houses made me put the campaign away. Facing off against just mordor is doable, but Rhun controlling everything east of the forest minus 2 settlements at turn 65 on top of Mordor was too much a grind for me lol as over next 40 turns only really gained 3 regions and after a back and forth.

I actually thought that Legolas was hilariously OP with regenerating hin e-daur bodyguard. Bait units into near-melee range, set guard mode, and blast away through the enemy with arrows. Send him on his own on top of a wall and laugh wickedly as he scrubs the entire wall section clean of an enemy army.

To be fair in the Hobbit films the Elves of the Woodland Realm were shown weilding a doubled headed glaive like polearm specifically the gate guards so having that unit weilding such a weapon is accurate to the film.

I've always wanted to have Lothlorien and the Woodland Realm combine at the event. Both factions hold a special place in my heart and it seems like such an awesome thing for them to band together to face every threat that may come at them! Especially seeing as Imladris and Lindon were combined into the High Elves. And it makes sense that Thranduil would resist such a union so there is a reason to leave the choice up to the player and not just make them one faction like the High Elves.

As I have never played the Silvan factions, I am interested if and the forests affect their archers? It seems counterproductive, having a top-tier archer based faction in heavy forests, because of Med2 reducing arrow effectiveness in forests. Anyone with experience?

I wouldnt mind lothlorien having the better archers whilst also having the better defence (which makes sense: holding your line so that your archers do the damage), but then perhaps make the woodland realm extra deadly in melee which also makes sense as skill in close quater combat is essential in a dense forest like mirkwood

I'm pretty new to the mod. What is the reason for making trolls and ents infantry instead of cavalry? It would seem almost perfect to me as they would be weak to pikes, spears, would be faster and have a powerful charge and it would stop them from climbing ladders and siege towers. What am I missing? Another Idea for a Woodland Realm script is Purging Mirkwood. Once the Woodland Realm controls all of the Mirkwood regions, they unlock a late tier unit and/or a bonus to population growth and trade(?)

Can I have divide and conquer and also reforged at the same time? I play multiplayer but I also play single player and reforged crashes every 2-3 turns after around turn 20-30

Can anybody confirm that you get ents by building the Dance Guild in Rochburg? I took Rochburg and built the Dance Guild but still no ents. I managed to get ents in both vanilla Third Age and with MoS but I just don't seem to be able to get them in DaC.

I love this mod, especially how mcuh time and care is being put into it and the fact that it doesn't really feel like a mod is amazing! My main problem with it is the fact that I can never seem to recruit what I actually want, even low tier infantry can be few and far between and many of my armies just feel 'cobbled together'. I think the really slow replenishment times for the units could be lessened a little bit but other than that the mod is exceptionally made. Glad to see that you're a modding team that is still alive and kicking for Medieval II as most seem to have gone long ago which can be quite sad.

Yes. I think part of it is just how the recruitment system works in Medieval 2 compared to other games, making it difficult and somewhat impractical to make more uniform armies. In a way it's fitting that armies are kinda cobbled together for a game that takes place in Middle Earth. Fits the rag-tag armies of Mordor, and the desperation of the Free People's scrambling every able-bodied man they can get together to use examples. But I also like uniform, well-balanced armies. Can be annoying fighting enemy armies as well, having to squint at precisely what kind of unit you're looking at before you decide what unit of yours to commit against them, and not necessarily having the right tool for the job on hand.

Little tip I used for the hin e daur unit is to stalk them around to the flank and then bombard the enemy battle line. Many a kill doing this.

really enjoyed my campaign but i tried to accept the elven alliance and got as far as "shall we send a diplomat to finalise the alliance" and then never heard anything more after I clicked confirm to that stage of the script..... never got the Kickass Unit or the Encampment Building, dunno if this has happened to anyone else?

What if there was a semi rework for WR where most of their infantry are hybrids like cardolan sentinels. So you keep the archer superiority but with the aggression stats they should have

Or, make their archers lower range but higher damage and accuracy across the whole roster! You can't shoot far between trees and have to be really precise to hit your target

Independently of my stance towards wild fantasy weapons I am asking myself though, why give the bonus vs mounts boni to a axe and board unit instead of the double bladed something one? Having an anti cavalry shock infantry would be something new. Of course they would be much more vulnerable to taking cavalry charges because they don't have shields, but at the same time the woodland realm doesn't strike me as having faced off against cavalry all that often so it fits the history if you will.

That was actually a mistake on my part in forgetting to update that bit of the text. Neither Gate or Axeguard actually get an anti-cav bonus at the moment.

Hello, I wonder if there is a way to delete the following feature: When you take enemy's capital (e.g. Edoras, Minas Tirith) after 1 turn spawn 1 huge professional army, for me it's too challangeable. I have already deleted Dynamic Garrison (I'm just not use to it, I'm old Medieval 2 player and don't like this featue either :P) so is there a way or not? Thanks in advance for the answer

I'm rather new to all this but I believe that's the last stand force, which spawns when a faction has 2 regions. My way around this has been regicide, or trying to take all 3 remaining cities in one turn

Playing as Lothlorien in an older version (4.0 maybe) I could also recruit ents from Isengard itself. Is this a bug or intended to be like this? Great mod btw😃

If you want to download this do you need the tatw 3.0 part 1 and 2 and 3.2 installed or do you dont need this? And if you have already have these mods will you need to delete those to download this mod?

The elvenkings gateguard are so cool! But why do they not get a bonus against all mounts whilst they have a spear like weapon but the axeguard do? Feels like they should be skilled against all mounts

the lothlorien elves archery skill is enhanced by their superior bows but is otherwise lower than the woodland elves. thats why legolas + lothlorien bow = op

Too bad that WR's elite melee units have such small unit size. Lorien units have 100 men in battalion as I remember and WR just 89 and it's not even compoensated with AP on axeguard.

Still think that u should change the axeguard for spear guard and add cav spear or sword unit and use the animal that thranduil rides as the mount

Playing them again, wauw the diff has been increased. Has the start units for Woodland been nerfed? Only generals, and archer cav make any sense. Inf is only to give the archers time to do their job, but when regular archers run out of arrows it is very bad.

I kind of agree that stack spam is one of the biggest problems with Medieval 2. But if it really becomes too annoying, then can't you just play on Normal or Hard? Or does that also weaken the AI in other ways besides economy?
