Great review Ryan, I agree it totally captures the “essence” of Aragorn in the films. I can answer your question about the boots too……yes, they were tricky to get on!……although it was the costume dressers that had to do it 😂 (for me and Viggo). I’ve mentioned before that this outfit was by far the most comfortable to wear during production, the envy of many other cast members! 😎 Good to see Wētā Workshop still producing some masterful pieces (I worked on many casting masters back in the 2000’s). Was waiting for this review.. I am very happy with this piece as my first Aragorn.. The details and pose choice is 10/10. The likeness issue was kinda expected from the prototype images. But I would say its much better than I was hoping for. Great review as always

Looks great man, and great review! I think this is one of if not the best Aragorn statues ever made. Viggo's likeness is near impossible to get right, but I think this captures the majority of him and certainly the best of the character.

What an amazing unboxing! I'm so, so glad I stumbled up on this video. I had no idea this statue had released, now I'm really looking forward to getting mine. I pre-ordered via SpecFiction so I guess I have to wait for their stock to arrive. (sigh) Oh well. But man, Aragorn turned out lovely. I like what Weta is doing with the Classics line and hope they continue to build upon it. I currently have Gandalf and plan to get the Ringwrath as soon as I'm able. I wanted Galadriel but I can't say I'm a fan of how the face turned out; the rest of the statue is quite nice though. Going back to Aragorn, what I love about this piece is he looks like a painting. The way the colors were applied give him this sort of 3D painting appearance. With that in mind, I honestly don't care he doesn't look exactly like Viggo. Instead, he looks to have been an illustration that walked right out of the pages of a book. I don't know about you, but that's much cooler in my opinion. 😊

Thanks for the review! The Sideshow 1:6 Aragorn Exclusive will always be number one for me, it's just perfect in every aspect, but this is a close second. With the Weta Amon Hen version third (overly dynamic pose but great likeness!) Other than the eyes maybe, the facial sculpt is really quite good on this one! It's the paintwork that throws it off. Viggo's beard grows in different areas, and has a faint/bald spot on his chin. His eyebrows are also very faint, but they're painted too long and dark here. Just those small paint errors are enough to throw the likeness off. Overall a fantastic piece though! Excellent representation of Viggo as Aragorn the ranger 🙂

I do like the pose and base better on that Aragorn Exclusive. I'm curious what your thoughts are on the face? Do you like the face better on that Aragorn or this one?

yeah i agree it does seem so difficult to get a good lookalike on the face. Some of the clothing in this statue is better detailed than the exclusive sideshow for sure. I just really can't decide which face between the two statues looks more similar to viggo

I still love the Bilbo and while I do think Bilbo is the heart, we spend more time with Aragorn in the films and I think this statue does him justice (even if the face doesn't quite look exactly like Viggo). I long missed out on Aragorn at Amon Hen, though you're right it's still a great piece. Thanks for commenting man!

As one who does art I can tell You: Viggo Mortensen's face is quite hard to catch. Not because he had any "abnormal" shapes, bot his decent but clear meme-play is really hard to copy. Viggo is no "big" actor in terms of facial expression for he's always holding back and does not have any 'agressive' expressions, so the fine differences in his expressions are nearly impossible to match, even when he's "settled". And the short beard he wears as Aragorm is also a match for any artist... But I get carried away. Great statue !!

Of course you can find a better aragorn, the original sideshow 1/6 exclusive unhooded head sculpt is much better in likeness to vigo than this. I still consider that the definitive 1/6 version.

Aragon at Amon Hen has a really good likeness to Vigo,but to be honest this one isn't bad at all!

I also say that Vigo Mortensen's face is hard to three-dimensionalize. He can imprint a wide variety of images on the audience. He is an actor who has both the face of a king and a shabby wanderer and the face of a father and a murderer. It is very difficult to shape than other actors with clear characteristics. always watching yor video with joy. have a nice day!

Yeah I don't think I've ever seen a sculpt that really nailed him, from Weta to Asmus or Prime 1... it's always been sorta close but just something is off. I'm curious to see how InArt will fair with their 1/6 scale figure. Thanks for the comment and for watching, really appreciate it!

I think they're working on it... I saw some other people getting there's about 10+ days before I got mine. Are you in the US? Also I don't think I got an actual notification from Weta that it had shipped, it just showed up so keep an eye out... Hope you get it soon!

Thanks for the reply to my previous question. Had one more question for anyone who will venture a guess. Why did Inart nail the likeness of Aragorn so well where Weta who should have done so being the company of designers and artists who made the movies did Not? Is it that a polystone sculpture like Weta produces is harder to make than the plastic resin toy that Inart makes? It's hard to believe they don't produce the superior likeness and detail being the originators of the movie images and therefore having the most detailed and authentic material from the movies to go by.Perhaps with them it was a money thing, not wanting to spend as much in fine details, not sure, just a thought.

I'll take a guess though just my opinion... Weta is great at their craft and while you're right they are the originators of the movie props and have access to all the authentic materials, they didn't make the actors. Not to say Weta isn't great but they never had to sculpt faces for the movies. So while they are extremely talented, other people around the world can be as talented or more so. Inart clearly has hired some very talented staff.

Does anyone think the to be released Inart Aragorn is better than the Weta Hunter of the plains statue.The price for both is simular though Weta seems to have increased the price on this statue on their official website by $140 or so just recently compared to whren it was released. Inart Aragorn I'm guessing not made of polystone but more like a plastic toy action figure though I believe the likness they got for their figure is better than the Weta one in the review above.Any others think so as well?

I definitely do. The Inart Aragorn is VERY accurate and I'm glad to see them consistently taking things to the next level... it should help push other companies. Like you said though it's a statue vs polystone which both have pros/cons. I collect figures too but I've never been great a posing them... and some of the clothing materials used can "whether" a bit... but also leaving a statue sitting in the sun will change it's appearance too.

Actually no, I was satisfied with my fix. You really can't see it unless it's zoomed in on camera like with my video. I just didn't want to go through the hassle of it.

I guess not everyone sees it the same, props to your honesty. I've never seen an Aragorn statue/figure that nailed his face so for me that's not the biggest deal. To me what wins me over is the stance and clothing/weapons. I've heard interviews with Weta staff that they plan to make separate accompanying Legolas & Gimli so that the 3 could be posed together so that's another bonus for me as I don't have a 1/6 of those either. I'd have to agree...It's been 20 years... and I don't understand why they can't get his face right either. They nail so many others perfectly. I think I might hold off on this one.... for now. They really shouldn't release them until they get the sculpts spot on... not this far along and having so much competition on their heels now a days.
