Adam, if you are reading all these comments, my thoughts went straight to the same place @davidalves3636 did. I’ve never sat in a kitchen cooking things you’ve presented. I, on several occasions, disagreed with your methods. It didn’t stop me from watching and I watch because you’re entertaining, interesting, and really make a connection with your viewers. I watch the fish tank videos for the enjoyment of watching what you’re working on and are passionate about. I appreciate that you brought this to us though as if you hadn’t, I’d be very confused at the sudden shift and the lack of content and that would frustrate me. You do you man. Keep yourself mentally healthy and happy and enjoy that wonderful family of yours and just know there are people out here in this internet void who truly appreciate what you contribute to the world no matter how many hours you work in a week. And if you suddenly stop all of this tomorrow, I’d be sad but also happy that I got these years of being able to flip on KZbin when I was bored and got to watch someone do something cool.

Thank you for finally making me understand how therapy works! The therapist just being there to support you while you figure out your own thoughts makes a lot of sense. When debugging software, one of the most powerful approaches is trying to explain your problem to someone else. Typically, they won't be able to solve the problem for you, but it forces you to organize your thoughts into a more communicable structure. That is often enough to realize something you didn't really see before, and you typically end up giving yourself advice on the next steps.

@GuidoC-Design I said my future, not my present. My wife and I still work 40+ hours a week, and will have to through to retirement. We're just already set for retirement when it does happen. That said, just because you're rich, doesn't mean you are happy. Money buys security, which can make people happier, but it doesn't buy happiness itself. Some of the most depressed people on the planet are Olympic athletes right after they win medals. Why? Because once you achieve something, you're left with the feeling of "well what next?" My own personal journey with existential dread was that I saw a future where I grind work for 40+ years and retire in the worst portions of my life(old). I got pretty jaded from it. Everyone strives for purpose. It's part of the hierarchy of needs. But most of us are too caught up in the grind to sit and think about it.

One of the things from your videos which has long resonated with me is "you do you" - you've had that awareness that other people are going to do things differently, and that's fine. And so it's more than fair we return the favour - so I'm very glad you're taking the time and space for you to do you. Seeing both you and Tom Scott go into semi-retirement within a few months is sad - but it's a reminder that making "content" is demanding, and a struggle, and exacts costs which most of us don't fully appreciate. So I think in and of itself, this video, and your very honest account of what you're feeling and thinking and doing, is a good thing - as it can hopefully help other content makers think about their own situations. Personally I'm absolutely here for any short- or medium-form videos you'll do, whether it's on food or fishtanks or freon contamination - I enjoy your style, and your insights. (To be honest, I'm more interested in the fishtanks than some of the food.) So I'm sticking around for wherever this channel goes.

If you are about 55, everything you said is probably true for 80% of the western world. It’s normal and good to want to do something different, however, it won’t bring the peacefulness you are seeking. That comes from understanding what was missing in our childhoods, and trying to heal. Accepting ourselves is the path to happinesses. You are a good communicator and once you understand what was missing in your childhood, use those communication talents to have imaginary conversations with parents or others around the hurtful childhood situations and through those two way imaginary conversations, you can begin to heal those old wounds. Self empathy and empathy for others is the key. The wounds likely didn’t happen as you were running away from the tiger as an adult, those wounds happened as a child when certain situations occurred. Thank you for being so open and honest and I wish you peace and fulfillment.

And I also feel guilt about the unequal opportunities I've had in comparison to others, and I think I also feel the need to prove my intelligence in the things I put out into the world sometimes.. I've been putting off giving therapy another try but maybe I should stop doing that. I kinda give myself tigers to run away from, but honestly I have the resources to tend to some scratches myself. I second this and every time you have a particularly bad phase you always come out with some realizations about yourself and new tools to handle those moments.

Adam, ever since ive found your youtube channel ive found a love for cooking and the process of it, the way you explained things and how and why we cook things is why i would watch you for countless hours and why i love to cook so much now to this day

This is just another example of you being You, and as a result, young men (and women) have a wonderful role model. I commend you for your openness and honesty. Talking about you was one of the ways that I could connect with a son who was otherwise very difficult to talk to. Thank you.

Adam, if you read these comments, I just want to let you know that I really admire what you did, and wish you the best of luck. Your channel has been amazing ever since I started watching it in the pandemic, and I'm looking forward to this next chapter. All the best. Cheers!

Thanks Adam. I’ve watched your videos for a long time and have related to all of it from cooking to working out to even keeping fish. I just signed up for my first therapy session next Thursday and I had the exact thought that I don’t know what another person would tell me. This video came out at a good time.

I just want to say that I think your openness about these questions of motivation and mental health is wonderful. I've been watching your channel for many years, and personally (for what little it's worth), I fully support you putting whatever content makes you happy. Even if the answer is nothing. We've all got such a short period of time on this earth, we should all be so lucky as to have the freedom to pursue whatever makes us happy.

Hank Green had an interesting video recently about retirement and youtube retirement. The idea of working to support those around you like your agent isn't something I thought about until he brought it up, but I think it makes a lot of sense and I loved hearing about where you are at.
@adastic10 ай бұрын
honestly, good on you for recognizing where you were at. Haven't finished the video, but regardless of what you plan on doing, I'm grateful for the videos you have put out, and I wish you the best, and if I see you again, it'll be a pleasant surprise.

Adam, thank you for your honesty. For what it may be worth, I like your content because I like how you teach. The specific content tends to be secondary. You could discuss whatever you are interested in and I would be happy to learn. You are a good teacher. We all know that. Which is why even this video feels valuable to me. So, in whatever capacity, if you decide to continue, there are many of us who just want to learn with you. Get well, Adam. You’ve done good work and many of us are very grateful.

Very glad to hear this news! (so to speak) And it's not surprising AT ALL that the podcast episodes drained you. They're packed with content!

One of my favorite videos of yours adam, i truly feel like your one of the few good role models on the internet. Not to add stress by saying that, simply being who you already are will achieve this. So thanks for being you!

Wow, that was a shock Adam! I so admired the way you could produce great videos which were both informative and fun with seemingly zero effort although I know it takes a lot to make things look easy! It would be great to see videos of you interacting with others, whoever they may be, about fish or any subject. Thank you for just going into semi retirement and not quitting completely - that would be like taking a favorite treat away, horrible to contemplate ... Thank you too for all your past videos on food, totally awesome! Take Huge Care of Yourself!

Huge respects for you for 1) bringing up such a topic and exposing tons of people to the existence of such issues and 2) for bring brave enough to share your own personal life here on your channel.

Glad to hear you're getting a lot of good out of therapy! You were one of my inspirations to taking cooking more seriously during COVID and try recipes out of my comfort zone. I made a lot more friends through cooking in my community than I ever expected, just through chatting or through cooking and baking for potlucks/community events. As your channel evolved, I also enjoyed learning more about why food evolved the way it did, and I still refer back to some of your more philosophical KZbin/podcasts episodes (as a Muslim, your video on why Muslims don't eat pork really helped clarify for me how I felt about the practice in the modern age). Thanks for all the content and work you've done so far!

I love your videos. I appreciate your down to earth food content. I suffer from mental illness and find your food content very enjoyable from a chef standpoint. I love your analogy of the tiger. In the food industry, the “grind” is draining but I do it because of passion before money but it does get muddled together at times. I will still watch your content because of your personality and impact your content has on my life. It takes a strong person to come to your realization. People love you for what you do, take it easy and enjoy the fruits of your labor. I don’t know your beliefs, but, I pray God blesses you for your genuine efforts. Thank you!

I didn’t know how much I needed to hear someone else say these things. I know my self indulgence wasn’t the purpose of this video. Frankly, I’m proud you’ve come to terms with this and have deep gratitude for you sharing this and putting those feelings into words.

I had never heard of you before yesterday, when I stumbled upon your explanatory whetstone video. I'm not even particularly into cooking but I liked your communication style in that video and thought I'd see what your channel's about, and this video greeted me on the main page and piqued my curiosity. So this is the second piece of your content I have ever come across and I'm incredibly struck by your sincerity, self-reflection, and openness. You said you're not interested in becoming more popular, but sorry - you've got a new fan. I'll be both looking back through your YT & podcast archives, and watching to see where you take your platform next. Keep being true to yourself and true to your viewers!

I hope you take care and I wish you well Adam! I've been following your work since the very beginning and your interest in food and food science has had a huge impact on me. Watching your videos and being curious about what you were talking about was the first step in a long journey- I'm enrolled in university now and I am majoring in Food Science and Sustainable Technology, and you and your work played a part in that. Thank you so much for everything!

Adam, I’ve been watching your videos for years. This is the first time I have written to you. I’ve learned so much from you including cooking but ever so much more. So thank you for all that you have given, for all that I have learned from you. I wish you well and all that are doing in your life in the present and the future. So thank you.

The very first video of yours I watched was you, Lauren, and your handyman taste-testing various forms of garlic - that's the vibe that got me hooked in. Not trying to pressure Lauren since she seems ambivalent about being part of your content, but honestly as a fellow member of her demographic (mom in my 30's married to a tortured artist but with my own pursuits to tend to lmao) I'm so here for that. I'm willing to bet the friends you have in mind for collabs are also cool. Glad you're taking stock and doing what's right for you and yours. ❤

more power to you, Adam. therapy, meditation and yoga are magical. it can be rather hard, especially since families sometimes choose to sabotage digging up the ol' dirt, but they say hardship is a pathway to peace. been a fan for years but if you wish to be less popular I might consider unsubsribing. that would be a tough one though. i wouldn't wanna miss the fish tank videos. go get it, Adam!

Thank you for your honesty and for sharing your experience. The tigers are always there. Everyone has them creeping in the shadows, and when you stop and look right at them, they get bigger and faster. However, we all have the capacity to turn them into kittens and they have a difficult time climbing stairs. You have found success with this channel, I'm sure you will succeed in climbing a few steps higher.

Adam... words cannot describe the impact you have had on my life. Your videos were what they were, not because of the content, but because of the character... I didn't subscribe to your food... I subscribed to you. Your passion and dedication to the topic at hand, your abilities to understand and communicate ideas in such a manner that is easy to understand... maybe that's why you went into food... you're very good at taking otherwise inedible ingredients, and preparing them into a dish that feeds the soul...both metaphorically and literally. I look forward to the metaphorical cooking of ideas!!!

Dear Adam, you probably won’t see my comment, I am a bit late to the party, but I will still say this: first of all, congratulations on making the right decision for yourself. Secondly, I came across your channel very recently and not through your cooking videos. It was food related but not the actual process of making it. I really liked your content, went to check what else was there and saw that it was mostly (great) cooking videos, and I was, like, I wish he just talked about stuff more. Anything, really. I just love the way this man thinks and talks. Cooking is cool but there is so much more in life that I would love this man to research, dissect, analyze or simply ponder upon AND share with the audience. And then, I saw this video ;) Whatever you decide to do next will be brilliant, I have no doubt. So curious what it’s gonna be.

Hey Adam, you've really put your whole self out there for us to see and jumped on every opportunity to use this platform in ways you feel morally obligated to, which is hugely admirable because those obligations certainly wouldn't have existed if you didn't have such a strong sense of moral duty. With so much of yourself out there it's understandable to feel more and more "watched". I hope you can do what you need to do to find a sense of calm and safety from that. Best wishes.

I'm in a pretty bad spot myself Adam. I've been really messed up inside and my life is completely messed up. So I can relate to the struggle you are having now. Although I'm not even close to outrunning that tiger. I really hope the best for you and taking care of yourself is the right move. I've enjoyed your videos a lot and learned a lot from them. Thanks for that. I don't feel like you owe me or anyone else anything. I hope you find your way and what you are doing is totally understandable. No hard feelings at all. Fix yourself and find your peace brother.

All the power to you for making sure that you respect yourself enough to make the hard call. Many people reach the point where they are good and successful at something, making a lot of money, even though that specific thing is not what they actually want to to, and they end up being miserable. What I am definitely going to miss from your cooking videos is your approach of making things in a kitchen so the average person could follow along, not using insane amounts of equipment/ingredients like everybody at home is a cooking professional or something.

I wanted to thank you for the years of content and the enjoyment throughout that time. I saw the original New York Pizza video and was hooked immediately. I've followed you through the years, I remember the button on the floor in the dining room. I live in Beverly Hills, and enjoy a lifestyle that many would consider lavish ( It's not, but it's nice). That said, I'm running from a Tiger while locked in mortal combat with an Alaskan Grizzly; I'm jealous. You do you. Take care of yourself.
