アップありがとうございます。もう30年以上前の番組ですが、今視聴しても演奏はもちろん、芥川さん、木村教授、そしてなかにしさんの懇談も素晴らしいですね。高度な内容にも関わらず、さりとて難しくなく、素人にも分かりやすく、ある意味、知的好奇心を喚起するみたいな。 いま、このような番組には、なかなかお目にかかれなくなりましたね。残念なことだと思っています。

Arrau speaks German, I have never heard him talking like that, very good German btw.! He lived in Berlin for a long time.

I've never seen Claudio arrau speaking german, but he spoke too English, french and his native Spanish. He speaks very right german language, im very suprised , because there is no many interviews by Claudio arrau speaking German. He arrived to Berlin when he was a child.

Arrau spoke perfect German because he lived in National Socialist Germany until 1941, when he emigrated to the USA and became dual US-Chilean citizen. There do seem to be unverified reports that he was initially enamored by pre-war Fascism, like quite a few European Chileans at the time in the 1930s. However, after the war he always denied it.... so yes, he spoke German very well indeed and he also was married to a German mezzo-soprano, Ruth Schneider, in the year 1937, with whom he had three children.

But we must not forget that Arrau helped the emigration of about 700 jews to travel to Chile, and that he regretted the death of some of his students who were killed by the SS. He was also harassed for his alleged sephardic jewish origin.

A pesar de que el maestro era de nacionalidad Chilena, hablaba mejor el alemán que el español, incluso, para responder en otros idiomas traducía desde el alemán. Hablaba también francés, Inglés, portugués y japonés bastante bien.-
