And the bigger problem is that, this problem is not just with South India,specifically but with almost all popular Indian states on which bollywood movies have been made in the previous years, specially which became HIT. And overall if we have a look, to any person who watches bollywood movies portraying states other than the one where he resides, it fits a stereotypical image in his/her mind about the state,culture and their lifestyle, which are neither completely true (incomplete information) and sometimes even nor appropriate. This stereotypical image is built slowly by many bollywood movies portraying the same thing, time after time, through some scenes in the movies and of course through their legendary songs. For example- Maharashtrian are always portrayed saying,” agabai, aai ga,aiyya, aai shapath, isshha.” They always wear a Navvari saree, that’s it. That’s the stereotypical image of Maharashtrians in India.

Jaby, you can't compare mexicans or latins coming to US and refusing to speak english to south Indians refusing to speak Hindi. The thing is that English is widely spoken in US whereas in India, hindi is not. Each state has their own language, and states that speak only hindi are a few compared to states with a particular language. Say, India has 29 states, only 7-8 them are purely hindi speaking states. And in south, hindi is not at all used. So, its not refusal, its more like we don't need to when people manage fine with English. And tamil and malayalam is so similar that if you know one language, you can understand the other.

Rightly said. Also , South Indians don't refuse to learn/speak Hindi when they have to travel/live/work in any Hindi speaking states. But when a Hindi speaking person comes to South India they expect you to know Hindi. When North Indians try to impose Hindi on other states , they sugarcoat like "it will help to improve communication and unity". But deep down some Hindi speaking people feel Hindi is superior than other Indian languages. Its not South Indians are rude & arrogant to learn Hindi. We just don't want to give up our pride.

Language identity is very strong in south. Most of southern states are formed on basis of language spoken by people. People always misunderstand hindi as national language because it is one of two official language recognised as language of communication of central government, other one is english. Tamilians love their mother tongue just like the citizens from the other regions of the country do. This Hindi conflict happens because Hindi speaking Indians want to impose that language on non-hindi speakers. They will be visiting Tamilnadu or Kerala or Karnataka or any states where people don't speak Hindi and demand the people to speak in Hindi. If people don't speak Hindi (that might be because these poor people don't know the language) these hindi speakers will abuse them and call them anti-nationals. They always act like the others should do them a favor and this very attitude had already killed multiple regional languages in North India. People loving their mother tongue don't want the same fate for their language. People having self esteem don't want to be treated badly because they don't or refuse to speak Hindi.

Once we got transferred in West Bengal , their in schools , classes are divided in 4 sections 2 hindi and 2 Bengalis , so it is pretty common , as north east people speak Hindi , when they come in the central parts , we will be needing to communicate in English or the that state language to put out speech to the greater reach .

It is not because we don't want to learn and speak it, but the thing is we are not taught those languages since primary school, not even as an option, but in South most schools teach hindi (many have it as option)... It is difficult to learn a new language in your 20s... I study in Bangalore and I have tried so hard to learn Kannada but I just can't become proficient enough, I can understand a few phrases but that's all... I have my courses to learn work to do, where will I find 3-4 hrs a day to learn a language, its not an ego thing but more of a difficulty...

A lot of people in the comments section are saying that because they are proud of their mother tongue they do not want to speak hindi...i get where that is coming from..i know that hindi was unjustly sort of imposed on the entire country during partition...also on the non hindi speaking population, which combined is much larger than the hindi speaking part ..but i know from experience that tamilians usually do not speak hindi in like maybe group situations to the point of rudeness and inconvinience....my mother tongue is also not hindi.its bengali..but i try not be like that and also this attitude is not present in my state.....often times they will show respect for their mother tongue by sort of degrading hindi...wat i am saying is one does not need to degrade on a foreign thing to show respect and love for something of their own

Even I have come across a lot of ppl in South who feels that if they learn hindi... Their own mother tongue will lose the importance... But however we ppl from northeast or North learn hindi coz its in the syllabus.. But however in tamilnadu long back hindi was banned and even now they have issues going on.. Well I have no issues instead I learnt Tamil to easily communicate.. However ppl should not be forced... Its upto the ppl down south.. If they want to learn or not.. They need to be assured that learning hindi( those who want to) in addition to their own mother tongue will not be an harm to their own language.. Its just that they feel... That communicating in their own mother tongue will be more understandable and in that way the only way to connect to each other will only be their own mother tongue.. The hardest thing a small youtuber can feel is when you wake up in the morning and nothing has changed on your channel. its always been my childhood dream to become a youtuber. the videoes uploaded by this creators makes me strong and gives me motivation to make my own videos. For centuries it was North India which suffered many invasions. So we built again and again. In that we lost many cultural things and got new ones.

So there is a bit of a background to this. When the constitution of India was being drafted it, was proposed to bring a common language and move away from English. Because around 11 of the northern state speaks Hindi or some dialect of it, it was a natural choice. But this did not go well with the non hindi speaking state. They argued that language is identity of the people and their culture. Forcing a non hindi speaker to speak it in order to get access to the Govt will make more and more people move away from non hindi languages and hence those cultures, languages will be lost. Hence India doesn't have a national language and the constitution recognizes 22 official languages instead. The southern languages are as ancient as Sanskrit if not older, so they take pride in their culture and language and avoid Hindi as much as possible. Communication can be tricky but personally I understand and respect the sentiment.
