"La Marseillaise" is the national anthem of France. The song was written in 1792 by Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle in Strasbourg after the declaration of war by France against Austria, and was originally titled "Chant de guerre pour l'Armée du Rhin" ("War Song for the Army of the Rhine").
The French National Convention adopted it as the First Republic's anthem in 1795. The song acquired its nickname after being sung in Paris by volunteers from Marseille marching to the capital. The song is the first example of the "European march" anthemic style. The anthem's evocative melody and lyrics have led to its widespread use as a song of revolution and its incorporation into many pieces of classical and popular music.

I agree on the idea, but wanted to specify something ; it is not question of the blood of the foes, but their own : "(if this is necessary, our) impur blood will water our [furrows]" . Frenches, as "citizens/not royals" and going to war against an empire, have an impure blood. This is a common thing in french ; taking an insult and making it a reason of pride ; like being proud of being "sans culottes" (an old saying, "culotte" at this time being a piece of clothes for wealthy people), or using a roaster on emblems because of the whole Gallia/gallina (Gaul/chicken) thing in latin. And I wrote [furrows] because it means at first their blood will flow on their way and on the battle, but also ; end of 4th stanza : "S'ils tombent, nos jeunes héros, La terre en produit de nouveaux, Contre vous tout prêts à se battre !" / "If they fall, our young heroes, Will be produced anew from the ground, Ready to fight against you!" and only at this point, in a poetic echo, [furrows] take the second meaning of the fields ; french giving their blood to irrigate the land, and the land giving back more frenches ready to protect the land. In my opinion, it is even more badass, because it has a sacrificial meaning. The impure blood was obvious at this time, but it became less obvisous as today nobody keep mocking the french for not being ruled by a pure blood royalty. Thanks for coming to my TEDx

"la strasbourgeoise" talk about the Prussian invasion (now Germany) in 1870. So it can be political, while "la marseillaise" is an anthem which has unified the French's peoples. It is also the same dilem between our flag and the red flag (French Revolution) the red flag does not represent the French's union (Alfonse de lamartine speach).
