Knot tying video tutorial. Learn how to tie your throw line to your climbing line for tree climbing. Easy step by step instructions in this simple guide.
If you are a climbing arborist a tree worker or into recreational tree climbing then you have to know tree climbing basics, which actually starts on the ground. How to get your climbing rope into the tree. The climbing knots used are:
1) Simple overhand stopper knot tied onto the throw line bag. This one is the quickest and is useful if you have isolated a nice open crotch.
2)Pile hitch, half hitch, clove hitch combination. This one takes a little longer to tie but is less likely to get snagged on twigs.
3)Common whipping knot. Takes the longest to tie and untie but is useful if you have a lot of twigs and brush to navigate.

When the tree is real brushy, I tend to use a clove hitch about 8" below the end of the rope and do three to four half hitches running up the rope to keep it from bunching while I pull the rope through I like the clove hitch because it has a lower profile on the rope and allows for slipping through high friction bark

Interesting, learned something new. Knew most of the knots just not seen them used in this application. I liked the last one as it would seem to work well in a tight crotch and looks similar to a lashing for a rope end.

The first option is super quick to tie. It also allows the added weight of the throwbag to help pull the line back to you when you encounter the most friction as you first cross over the branch and the weight of the rope is pulling against you. The pile hitch can also be formed first and then the rope inserted this is slightly easier to tie.

If you have a stopper knot in the end of your line anyways (which you always should), then I like to use a small accessory carabiner such as the dmm xsre to clip the throwbag to the line. Makes it even faster.

I use all of those knots depending on the situation. It always seems that the best side of the 🌳 to MRS climb on is also the busiest side of the 🌳. I have really double lining alot more lately.

Pile hitch, half hitch, clove hitch is a nice one, I've tried the common whipping knot and the running end gets pulled under the wraps and it actually damaged the throwline, had to cut a short piece of it. It's a very synthetic and smooth looking throwline I got so maybe it's better with one like yours with thicker strands.

I just girth hitch it and then throw 3-4 half hitches on it. As long as snug the girth hitch up before doing the half hitches it won’t come off.

This could be titled “how to make a simple task more complicated to make more content for a KZbin video”. Also the first one is among the worst suggestions I’ve heard in quite some time. Sorry for the negativity, but come on man...
