ARCADE CHALLENGE - "0 TIX TO IPAD" with MEWTWOSTRUCKBACK | Main Event Arcade | JJGeneral1 | TeamCC
What's up Generals? Today I am at Main Event in Pittsburgh, PA, and I am filming, what could be, the most awesome arcade run in ONE NIGHT. Mike, A.K.A. "MewtwoStruckBack", is going to try to win an iPad from Main Event. Sounds easy, right? Well... He's going to try to do it in ONE NIGHT. Yes, in ONE SINGLE ARCADE RUN, he will try to go from having 0 tickets to redeeming an iPad. He has 4 hours to do it (1/2 price runs from 10 PM to 2 AM on MONDAY NIGHTS), can he pull off an impossible feat? I guess you'll have to see!
NOTE: MAIN EVENT HAS SUSPENDED 1/2 PRICE FROM 10 PM TO CLOSE FOR RIGHT NOW. THERE IS NO WORD ON IF IT WILL RETURN, HOWEVER WHEN THIS WAS FILMED, 1/2 PRICE WAS STILL A THING.

Haha, I sometimes get a Nintendo Switch in a single Wednesday at Dave and Buster's. It usually takes me 5 hours, though, and I end up spending about $130-150 to get that many tickets. Never an iPad, though. The iPad Pro at Dave and Buster's is just way too expensive to manage that.

@@JJGeneral1 Earlier this evening, the score to beat from Skee ball game (where we witnessed) was 37,000 to win 375 tickets. We won on the second attempt & the score structure was: 3,000 x 1; 5,000 x 2; & 4,000 x 6. Since score to beat was less than 45,000 we aim for 4,000 & 5,000 holes instead of 10,000 & if we set the bar too high, things will be impossible to win an additional jackpot from Skee Ball.

If I play Speed of Light at Dave & Buster's on Wednesday with 200 chips for $20 with the coupon on Tuesday, I can get around 19,900 tickets by getting 999 points back to back with 50 plays that costs 4 chips to play. You can walk out with a Switch or PS4 for $100-$120 depending on your budget. The highest tickets is 398 on Speed of Light. Plus you need to drink a lot of water with the game.

Unfortunately D&B still trumps ME on the prizes. The iPads D&B carries are more than double the value of the ME ones. I kind of wish we could get into a custom prize agreement - like...points are worth $x, and I know gift cards or cash redemptions are illegal, so why not just order whatever I want as a prize off of Amazon and ship it to the store or to my house? It's going to show up the same on their budget report regardless of whether they buy an iPad from their distributor or a laptop off Amazon, so long as the points are even.

Dave & Buster's, before they nerfed many games...you could go in and EASILY knock out 100,000 tickets in one session. Some stores that have games that aren't set up properly, this still happens. This is just getting to relive some happy old times, where you go in, you go after a single big prize, and knock it out in one shot.

There's typically not money to be made there. At Main Event I'd never touch them as they don't even include them in half-price promos. They're exempt for some reason. The thing is they know how many coins go in one, and the same number of coins should go out, and they key up how many tickets they want paid out per coin. There are only two ways to come out ahead. The first, selling the collectible cards. There is typically a rare one, but the value of it depends on the secondary market - the popularity of the character in the series, and that's outside of your control. The second is winning bonuses in the very short term. For example, finding a Monopoly coin pusher where 7 out of 8 bonus lights are lit and putting in one coin that triggers the bonus. But even that is set on a payout structure and it's possible to win the bonus on 1 coin and still not come out ahead! There was a period of time I played Spongebob for sets, but that's when I figured sets would sell for more than what I paid by a decent margin. Star Trek was NEVER that way. Minions I did okay with as far as cashing out for tickets but people would not bite on the open market for the rares/sets at an inflated rate.

Keep in mind that expansion and contraction occurs on wooden games like Skii Ball. During the winter (low humidity), the game's wood is fully contracted. During the summer (high humidity), the wood is fully expanded. It can easily throw off your game when switching seasons.

It's something you'll learn when working with wood. My father was a repairman and builder. He actually hate working with wood because of that reason. The basement door he made does not close properly during the summer season. I bought a pinball machine in Feburary and I had to recently re-level it again, because of the increased humidity. The machine was off by a degree due to the wood expanding, which was throwing off my game.

The tickets go straight to the card. I don't have to stay at the machine while they pay out, so I can win more jackpots on other games while some are still paying.

On MANY games, there is a penalty for doing your best! On Crossy Road, if you shoot way above the jackpot, instead of the score going up by 16 to win the next jackpot, it will go up way more. Floppy Tickets works the same way. Space Invaders Frenzy is set up that you only get 500 and not your base game tickets, and I am sure the higher you push the score average the more it will go up. 2-Minute Drill, Tailgate Toss, Gold Fishin', and Gridiron Blitz work that way too, sometimes with a MASSIVE penalty for going way above what is needed. (Not all of those games are at Main Event.) The game I pushed way above on Crossy I knew I was done doing Crossy for the night and the score to win will correct itself on a power cycle of the machine that happens after an overscore. If you want to see more examples of this, look at any video on my channel where I play the same game repeatedly. You'll always see me stop right after locking up the jackpot on those.
