This is a classic song. The words, the Erie bass and guitar. It has a kind of Twin Peaks intro/Joy Division vibe to it. Can't stop listening.

Agreed, Montreal is in Quebec and Quebec is a province in Canada. And if every French Canadian did not want to be part of the country, one of the referendums on this issue would have resolved this issue. C'est la vie.

i've listened to this song for the first time on the radio some months ago..I've immediately taken a note of the lyrics just to search them on youtube...and then discover the title of the song...it's beautiful...now they've played another time on VR...but it's just the second time I listened to this song on the radio....beautiful..

@TheSnooch123 Very good analysis Snooch. I have been on a 1 year binge of Arcade Fire and have been absolutely enamored by this band and their concepts. I agree with you in that it is not an attack much like Neon Bible was not an attack on Christianity, but more of a perspective on religion that is worth considering. Win is definitely on record of saying he's had a profound interest in religion and culture. The concept that our technological advancement has stripped us of our humanity is tru

It's not a competition. And they can't be compared. This is a great band right here, for me and for many. And they are in the middle of their age. So drawing comparisons and deciding on competitive undertones is pretty much a useless pursuit. They are under-rated in my opinion

@corncornrocks Concerning the pressure set by their flawless discography, and certainly by that of NB (by some called the best runner-up album of the 2000s), forced them to write a record which would simply have to do, as 4 years had passed and expectations just kept growing. While some songs on The Suburbs are good, it’s as if broken in 16 pieces, glued together by the few songs that are actually good music. It’s an album that wouldn’t have been enough in 2007, but in this situation, had to be.

@museandmanicsfan I liked Wasted Hours and Empty Room when I listened to them for the first time. LOVE Month of May, I don't know why though. So weird, one band, so many different opinions. But one thing we can all agree on: Arcade Fire's awesome and we all love that band.

@Volturism You left out my favorite "City With No Children " a wonderful tune-Arcade Fire great stuff- I like to play City With No Children looping back to back with Nick Cave's poignant "O'Children " after that its Modern Man played next to Nick Cave's Abattoir Blues. and so it goes - GORD #gordspoetryfactory

@Kenna6746 I'm sorry but they're from Quebec (Montreal) not Canada... there is not one french-canadian person in Quebec that is proud to be canadian!
@corncornrocks13 жыл бұрын
@Volturism I agree that Suburbs is their least well-done album, but what do you mean it was "face-saving"? I don't see anything that points to saving face.
@Volturism13 жыл бұрын
@NeverSaidYes I would say that The Suburbs, Modern Man, Empty Room, Deep Blue and We Used to Wait are the really notable ones. The other songs are not bad, just dull and boring to different degrees. Which ones do you prefer?

@esurell I completely agree, Win is thankfull of a religious background and it helped him form a world view he admits he no longer practices but its still something he cares about but he has no taste for the contradictive, conservative and sometimes often immoral takes on religion aswell as it's commercialisation such as preachers making money off 'private prayers', the very thing that inspired Neon Bible (money grabbing preachers and the church becoming a commercial enterprise)...

Clever reference...
@merp71511 жыл бұрын
True, in reality, they're a very conventional Indie Rock band with all the awesome elements of Post-punk and Baroque Pop, and the comparisons to the artsy types like Radiohead/Sigur Ros seem kinda, well, wrong... They are more like the Strokes' cool, Baroque cousins than those guys.
@BBQPeanut13 жыл бұрын
@audrey60hepburn You mean 2 of the current 8 members are from Quebec. Being based in Montreal =/= from Quebec. Most members are from Texas or Ottawa. If you don't like it, get out of Canada.
@lhrttz12 жыл бұрын
i think this is the sound that they should look for on their next LP. Step away from the springsteenian anthems for a while, and pursue a more expansive and experimental sound, much like the talking heads itself and the funeral years. Tracks like spraw 2 would be great too.
@lunacindy8312 жыл бұрын
wow! its sad that with such a beautiful song, people put up such ugly comments. u all shouldnt even be aloud to call ur selves Arcade Fire fans with such hatred in u.

Don't see what's the deal with Arcade Fire anymore. Funeral was fantastic, Neon Bible amazing, but The Suburbs? Seriously, I thought it was hollow, face-saving and almost embarrasing in relative to the previous two. And songs like these, Baudelaire-references and David Byrne in all respect, only probate this opinion of mine.

The lyrics are so subversive, speaking in tongues is a reference to preachers 'channeling christ' and hypocrite, reader, my double my brother is suggesting the idea of the hypocrisy in religion today but at the same time its not an attack on this its win merely stating he doesn't understand how this has happened or rather they are 'speaking in tongues'....
