Oh, many coins I have inserted to play this arcade, in the days of my youth. I was addicted. So many years ago... I got a thrill and a sort of melancholy watching the entire gameplay and listening to the soundtrack, that I could recall immediately and entirely, even if more than 30 years are passed by... Thanks for posting this

Superb game, i played this thoughout the 80's as a kid. It was my favorite arcade then and still one of my all time favorite arcades and the only arcade game ive completed. Had it a few years back on an old computer using MAME emulator, might hva eto get it again cause seeing and hearing it again puts the nostalgia off the scale 😄

You forgot Journey Escape
@forceinfinity2 жыл бұрын
@@truckingwithatablet4489 I didn’t include that one because on a very fundamental level they were completely different games with different titles. In the Atari game, all it was was just getting everyone to escape the concert to the scarab. In the arcade game, which was just named Journey, you had to fight through 5 mini minigames to get to your instrument and shoot your way out to get back to your ship. Then assuming you did your concert, the mini game was to block crowds from reaching the stage. Now if they had a 7th minigame where you have to guide your members to the scarab after that crowd storms the stage…then maybe

Everyone always talks about the Atari and Commodore versions of Pitfall II, because of how technically impressive they are. This version of the game looks incredible, and blows them out of the water. I mean, we're comparing 16-bit arcade hardware to Atari, I get that they're not even close to the same league. But its incredible that this version of the game is so obscure. I can't even find a ROM for it!!
@nighthawk00772 жыл бұрын
There's definitely a MAME rom out there.

Holy cow this game is hard. A few years ago I played the Commodore 64 version on my real C64 using a YT vid for guidance and it was amazing. So I thought, no problem I know how to get to the end so I'll try the arcade version in MAME. But they changed it and made it MUCH harder! Luckily MAME has cheats so I put invincibility and infinite lives and play it but I still died many many times hehe! I even had to use save states because near the end when swinging on the ropes I kept falling down which was annoying. But eventually with following this vid I got to the end. So now I have played the Atari 2600, C64 and arcade versions. Big thanks for taking the time to record this :-)
@gamblincabbie95054 жыл бұрын
While Activision kept most home ports in house, they did pass the arcade license off to Sega, which made this "inspired" by Pitfall II... The arcade game only got one direct port to a home console, the Sega SG:1000 (Mark 1) in Japan.

Even though I prefer the original Atari version for nostalgia reasons, I agree this is clearly the superior version. Longer, prettier, more challenging.

I grew up with the Atari home-computer version of Pitfall II: The Lost Caverns - so this one looks like a spiced-up version by adding some original Pitfall! stuff (e.g. pits and wines) as well as a few of those specific to the Indiana Jones franchise (e.g. the carts). Adding all those falling objects seems like a nice addition. Not bad at all, though different to the version I grew up with and loved. Obviously, the graphics are superior to any of the home computer versions, but to my surprise, the music is comparatively on the same quality level. BTW I see some differences, which makes this one seem a bit easier - e.g. the scorpions do not chase the player, the owls and swans from the original (here they look like bats / hawks / crows or so) fly keeping a bigger amplitude, so it's easier to dodge them, etc.. But again, these seem just like minor differences.

What I find most interesting is that most games start off as Coin ops & then are ported to home consoles and computers but this is one of the few games that started out on home consoles and then was ported to the arcades. I have the C64 version & to this day I've never been able to beat the game. I love it though.
