Thank you! Supernoob here just looking for a basic intro to logic probes. I just watched two other logic-probe-101 videos where the narrator starts by clipping the probe's leads to _something_ off-camera and proceeds without explanation. NO, I AM DUMBER THAN THAT. Having never done any troubleshooting work like this before it's just not intuitive that you should find power & ground on the board itself. Thanks for being more specific.

I know this is 4 years old but this was super helpful. I do wish i had your confidence with the soldering iron

Thanks for the awesome videos! I am just getting into the arcade hobby and am curious, I notice you don't wear any anti-static protection, or even seem to care about it the way you handle the boards and chips, is that not a big issue anymore? Back years ago when I used to work with electronics that was always a major concern. Thanks again for the great stuff.

it isn't an issue. even if it was, it would only be around the eproms...ive never had an issue with it even while building computers.

@@Cookingwithdrchill Same here. built hundreds of computers. never had a problem with static.

What is that reference book you are using for the IC identification and layout? LS/S/TCC logic databook? do you have an ISBN number and do you have a recommendation for someone getting into electronics repair to start their library of useful books? I work on medical equipment and am starting to get them more tools/ books. I am kind of the go-to guy for electrical issues now. I think the book you have and any others you can recommend will be great. Do you have ISBN numbers if you do suggest any.

off the top of my head I don't know who made it, but there are tons of them out there. I got mine on ebay for like 15 bucks years ago.

What wattage iron do you prefer for doing this kind of work? Thanks.

How did you know where to start looking for an issue? Schematic sheet?
@Cookingwithdrchill2 жыл бұрын
you look at what works then what doesn't. where potential culprits would be. start from there. but you need schematics.

So when you say "unless you have 1000s of dollars worth of fancy equipment to trace all this stuff"--- what equipment are you referring to that helps find bad traces / problems?

A custom test rig for the game in question perhaps?

no - an oscilloscope at an absolute minimum - they dont' cost that much at all but i'm shocked this guy is not using one
