Even Contra on original NES has a faster gameplay. Only thing that beats Contra to dust is Metal Slug. But still Cyber Lip is a cool Run n Gun it’s own domain.

One tongue in cheek ad which gave this game infamy. There was also different variants which replaced the Cyber-lip screenshot with those for Ninja Combat, and Magician Lord IIRC

It's true. Some of the developers who worked on Cyber-Lip were from Irem, who of course went on to form Nazca (Metal Slug series, Neo Turf Masters). The names of Japanese developers are often masked (AKA "HIYA! JIM" "OK Goo", "Crazy Love") Most Japanese publishers enforced this rule in order to keep headhunters from offering their developers better salary to lure them away. Atari also neglected to credit their developers for the same reason. A few Atari employees disliked that rule and left to form Activision, the very first 3rd party publisher, where they not only credited each and every developer with their full name, but also had a full page bio on them with a photo as well.

@@videogameobsession But the team that left Irem to form Nazca were still at Irem in 1990, up until Irems bankruptcy in 1994, that's why they formed Nazca. As for Cyberlip it's a 100% SNK joint.

Some of them were from Irem. Keep in mind that they were up to over 200 employees. By 1994 they were a skeleton crew. I can't tell you their names, but this has been a "known thing" since the early 90's, and was confirmed in an issue of Neo•Geo Freak, IIRC. It said something to the effect of Cyber-Lip having help from some devs who worked on Moon Patrol. I also think it was answered several years ago in an issue of Retro Gamer Magazine. "It is noted that a handful of members from Irem developed this title and later went on to create Metal Slug."
@Rtype90mk28 ай бұрын
@@videogameobsession Good point. I did hear some ex Irem employees (presumably the same guys who worked on Cyber Lip) also worked on Last Resort. I have to find that Neo Geo Freak issue online and read it myself. Sounds like an interesting read. Thanks for the info.

Wasn't the earth already screwed, what with the rampaging androids and bioweapons? I'm not sure what that twist does besides say another presumably evil group got their hands on it.
@Aztyph5 жыл бұрын
Cyber-Lip (i.e. the final boss) was originally meant to safeguard humanity against potential alien invaders. This ending is heavily implying that a group of aliens managed to hack Earth's defense system so that it targeted humanity instead, and then presumably sent an alien onto Earth undetected to replace the President once everything was in order. From there, it was a matter of turning Cyber-Lip and its army against Earth, and having the "President" state that Cyber-Lip needed to be destroyed instead of repaired, in order to complete eliminate any serious obstacles that could stop them.
@videogameobsession8 ай бұрын
This is correct, except that part about them sending an alien down to mimick the president. He was an android. Which was also "evilly reprogrammed" by the aliens. This is why his eyes glow red at the end, just like a Terminator T-800.

An MVS one is cheaper if it's cart only (I've seen $170). The Neo-CD version has gotten a little expensive, around $250-300.
