A longplay that relies on pure skill, congratulations to you. Probably one of the most innovative shmups I know, and definitely a great one!

Happy days playing this as a student - recall getting twice round but the 3rd loop was nearly impossible. 20 pence went a long way in those days.

I'm pretty sure this was one of, if not the first game where each stage had its own music... Magmax kind of did, but only on one of the two layers (on the other one two stages shared a theme).

I remember this in the day, it was such a great game but very hard. Watching this I would have died every 10 secs and I guess infinite lives would help me. He actually dies at 6:36. I watched carefully in case he had cheats on but he was dodging everything. Well played and great upload.

Very well played, this was excellent to watch. I always found this game so damn hard to play. First played it on the Commodore 64. Happy memories. Thanks for the upload.

You missed a major trick here. Before the first boss, position your craft with the multiples just above the 2 volcanoes. The lasers will destroy ALL the rocks and you will earn an extra life....
@DJdoublevision4 жыл бұрын
Even better if you sit in the top left corner of the screen with a drop down of multiple lasers

When I played this in the arcade and got to the final boss it was a bit of a disappointment as it was so easy! This was also one of the first games I played that I noticed the adaptive difficulty. Edit: Oh look! I had forgotten that I had already commented on this a while ago! lol

Excellent playing, as always. I never got far at all in the original Gradius. I loved Life Force and Gradius 3, though, and I see a lot of the original material here. I'll have to watch an NES version playthrough to see the differences. Wasn't there a Game Boy part of the series called Nemesis? Any major differences?
@andreinoooo Жыл бұрын
Wait, Gradius played Konami Morning music on machine startup. Isn’t Nemesis based on the same hardware?
@NexcellPride7 ай бұрын
"Nemesis" is the Worldwide version export of "Gradius" The most significant difference is the Hardware when releasing: Fearing that the "Bubble System" hardware would be a failure outside of Japan, Konami ported the game to the GX-400 board, which was the chipset/motherboard version of the G-400 hardware ("Bubble System") That's why this version loads faster instead of waiting for warming up.

This was obviously not a perfect player, albeit experienced. A perfect player won't get killed at least in the First Round. He didn't even care to get high scores, got killed twice and completely gave up as soon as the Second Round began :'( Back in the mid-late 1980s I used to play this game in Leeds, and then almost every town in Britain. Gradius was known as 'Nemesis' in the UK. I used to play three complete rounds without losing one life and score over 1,400,000. Even today after 30+ years I still remember how to stay alive (at least in the entire First Round) and how to get max points from each and every stage. I know where to use DOUBLE rather than LASER. I now actually own the game on Supergun at home, which is the exact equivalent of the Arcade version.
