Back in 1995 my girlfriend and I took a train from Vermont to Montreal for a comiccon...afterwards we smoked a big fattie and wandered around the city...we found this crazy comic shop/arcade where they had this coin-op game...dumped about $10 Canadian into it...good fun...

I played this recently on MAME, and it was brilliant. I know a Konami 90s Arcade Beat-Em Up Collection would be a nightmare (so many licenses!) but I would buy it in a second as there would be so many great games in there... Turtles, X-Men, Simpsons... they must have put something in the water there in the 90s.

To this day, i still don't see how the chariots stages fit in Asterix's universe but i also used countless coins in this game (and never went far in it). i also believe it's the greatest Asterix game ever made. Oo, there's also some sort of mine riding stages...

I once bought an old arcade machine on a flea market, and a box with 7 games for it, including this one (the "game cartridge" for old arcade machines are large circuit boards, ca. 40x30cm, and you had to open the whole machine to change it.) Sold it years later to a collector, for 4 times what I bought it for :)

Probably because at that time the home console Astérix license was held by Sega for his own systems and by Infogrames for the Nintendo ones. This was the same problem Konami had with The Simpsons license, held by Acclaim in the console front and the reason why in that case they could only release the arcade game on computers.

@@WeskerSega asterix wasn't licenced with sega or nintendo. the company of the asterix cartoon own the licence. some arcade games just don't make good console ports. arcade game too hard and not big enough, for example. in the arcade you're constantly flooded with enemies and this makes the game last over an hour otherwise you'd fly through it in 5minutes.

@@fraser_mr2009 You don't seem to understand how licensed videogames work. Sega had the Asterix license to work with for their own systems (Master System, Game Gear and Mega Drive) back in the day. Infogrames had it for the rest of home platforms, which include the Nintendo systems and also the computer ones. Konami was stuck with the arcade license and therefore couldn't bring this game home. It wasn't because of what you say about arcade games because arcade games were big on 8 and 16 bit consoles back in the day and they actually brought some of their other licensed arcades like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ones to home platforms, because they could do it due to owning the licenses. Konami also faced a similar problem with their The Simpsons arcade game, they could only get the license for arcade and also home computers this time (so they also ported the game to PC and Commodore 64) but couldn't to consoles because Acclaim had it first. That's how things actually worked back then and it's a known fact that Konami would have brought this game to consoles if they could have.
