I played this when I was 13. One day on one quarter I played for over 90 minutes straight. I had at least 15 people watching me in awe. I had to leave and gave my game over to one of the spectators.....he played out all my remaining lives in about a minute 😀
@edgeeffect4 жыл бұрын
My friend Paul used to be "world class" at Gyrus.... one Saturday he put a single 10p (that's English for a quarter I suppose) and played for about 12 hours.... he took a few breaks when i would stand in for him.... I was good but not as amazingly good as him and lost a fair few lives whilst he was gone but he'd just come back and earn a load more.... the game stopped when the arcade closed.... we could easily have gone on all night........ those we the days.

This game was a *phenom* when it debuted. The music and whorl of activity just drew people to watch a player for the first few weeks. It was hard to get a chance to play at my local arcade initially. Once it became just another game, I played regularly and get good at it - cycle to Earth multiple times.

I loved this game so much that I would spend my weekly lunch money allotment on it. I had to go hungry for the rest of the week but it was worth it. This game was also at a movie theater I went to regularly and I would show up 1 to 1 1/2 hrs before the movie start time and sometimes play almost up until the time for the movie to start. I miss those days. I wish they could bring it back. I'm fixing to turn 56 but I would feel like a teenager if I got an opportunity to play it again

I put quarters in this box to listen to the music, and to play. It was a good machine to feed :). There were only a few machines which had circular setups like this and none of them were galaga clones. I remember seeing this in 7-11. It was right next to zoo keeper. So many jolly ranchers went into those machines :( Those were good times.

Oh my god the memories this game brings back. I remember "flipping" this game twice in one session and people would actually gather around me to watch me "flip" the score over. People who wanted to play the game never got a chance. It's the music that kept me going on this particular game. I would get an extra ship but it wouldn't show up on the display. I also remember going to a movie theatre and decided to play this game there because the movie itself was boring. Great Times!! Thanks for posting.!!!

NES version a bit softer. this was the edgy version I loved to play after school in the local arcade near our school! spent quite a few lunch moneys on it!

I read that the player's ship had to be manually drawn for each angle it points in.
@chrissanders55323 жыл бұрын
No, the shape of each angle was created by an artist. A memory saving option would be to save only one the list of shapes from 0 to 90 degrees and perform simple horizontal and vertical inversion in a graphic drawing chip. But EPROM was cheaper than RAM and graphic processors.
