It’s difficult to point out how revolutionary this was, since it did so much different from other fighting games. Semi-realistic martial arts in a limited area, with a focus on combinations and even the ability to hit grounded opponents. This simply wasn’t done before because you needed polygons to do it. Granted everyone here looks like Lego men and the jumps indicate they’re fighting on the moon, but it’s revolutionary.

You do not need polygons to have combinations and hit grounded opponent in 2D games.

It's significance to the industry isn't from it's mechanics as a game, but rather from the advancement in 3D graphics and technology. This game came out in 1993, and it was a pretty strong leap ahead in graphics, and the gameplay was smooth and functional (for the time), and the visuals were appealing compared to 3D graphics of the time.

Everything you described as a negative was exactly what made it so awesome - we knew what REAL fighting looked like because there was so much of it in school and on the street, we wanted something that felt like a GAME not super real reality which sucked

I remember being amazed when I discovered this game when I was in 7th grade. It was the first fighting game I truly invested in. I liked MK and some others, but this was something else.

I remember thinking you had to wear VR goggles to play this game back in the day.... it was situated right next to a VR Kiosk at my local state fair so it was hard NOT to imagine it!

I sometimes play the PC version from time to time , still fun and holds up well. I wish SEGA would re-release the windows 95 version for windows 10/11 steam with updated graphics on xbox controller support

This isn't the Arcade version its some shitty emulator, I can tell because the Arcade never had this terrible slow down.
