You mean arcade version? Console ports always had to be downgraded. And as early as in 1984 they couldn't fit all the arcade stages on the cartridge.

Assuming you're going max speed for the entire 98 kilometers of the first race (you aren't, but I'm being charitable) and considering it only takes 57 seconds to cover that distance, you're actually traveling at 6,189.47 km/h. This is utterly pointless information, but I was curious. It's also meaningless, as there's no way you're covering a full kilometer within two seconds of starting the race. It's all made up with no pretenses toward reality.
