I miss those days, so much...Going to play your favorite game(s) at the mall, killing time before seeing an awesome movie in the very same mall. Hanging out with your friends, eating a greasy slice of pizza, checking out the latest tech at the computer store, it was always a good time and i've kept those memories alive as much as i can. I'll never truly leave the 80s, they will always be a part of me. Super trip down memory lane Tig! Have a great weekend my fellow retro friend, Peace!

I always love it at our skate rink that they had both arcade cabinets and pinball machines and playing Street Fighter II at our bowling alley

First machines i played in the arcade were pinball machines, as video games were still on the horizon. (I was 18 when space invaders came on the scene) But when they did come out there were a few that took me away from the pinball table. (One thing about pinball was that if you were good you could get far longer play time than those video games designed to eat quarters! )That was Berzerk, the first cabinet with synthesized speech saying things like "Coin detected in pocket!" "Chicken fight like Robot!" if you ran out of the room without killing all the robots first. Then there was Scramble one of the first side scrolling shooters or what they call a Smup. Then I loved the Tron games, light cycles and the rings game. Also a wire frame or vector graphic s tank game (Battle Zone). It was amazing, a 3d virtual world and you looked through a periscope type view finder. Then Computer space one of the first video cabinets. I honestly didnt care for pacman or space invaders. Another you already said was Tempest, that game was crazy. Also the home version for ps2 dosnt really capture the game play as there is no knob you spun around like crazy to shoot the monsters and the spikes. Nice episode Tig! Im digging through your older stuff here. haha.

@@NerdOutWithMe I've been to a place like that called The Joystick Arcade/Bar. There's also an arcade/bar in Orlando called Player 1. It's incredible. It's a wave of Nostalgia.

Arcades were a second home to me. And I was good at them too. We would put our quarter on the bottom of the screen to be next but I was so good I would see people take their quarter back because I wasn't dying fast enough. Lol I had crowds behind me cheering me on. I was popular. It felt good and I still love them today. To me those games are better and more challenging than today's games. Send me back please.

Growing up in rural Alaska didn't give me much access to arcades. It was always a treat when I could play a bit at the one in the mall but man those quarters disappear quick! 😂

One Track ball game that I've heard about and was an animated movie you could play was called "The Act." Space Ace was the first animated arcade game I played before Dragon's Lair. Those games may have been hard, but it sure was cool playing a game that was also a 2D hand drawn animated movie. Don Bluth was a genius and a legend. I wish we had more of his animated movies and arcade games around today. Chuck E Cheese's may have had creepy robots and not so good pizza, but it was still a fun place to visit, especially the ball room. One arcade game you forgot to mention was Golden Axe.

Wow, that was awesome and took me back to my childhood! Space Port was my mall’s arcade and I spent most of my money there. I had a Video Game Addict iron on shirt made that I wore proudly. Asteroids was my first fave and in later years Galaga. I totally remember some of your lesser know games, Wizard of Wor, Crystal Castles and Robotron were some of my faves as well. Finally I knew exactly when you started talking about Dragon’s Lair what game it would be. I rarely would invest 50 cents to play since my average playing time was less than 2 minutes but would join the crowd whenever a good player was on the machine and remember feeling like I was watching a movie.

I never got to play Dragon's Lair but I played a lot of Time Traveler, which was a spiritual sequel to it. The hologram gimmick really grabbed me. I miss arcades but more the social excitement of everyone trying to beat TMNT or The Simpsons, getting to be part of that final level and the accomplishment of seeing the credits finally. There was a palpable excitement. That probably explains a lot about me as I loved MK and Street Fighter but that is when arcades went from high score challenges and fun co-op to competitive Me Vs You. I also really dug the skill games like the Puck Bowling game, Gumball Rally, TMNT Pizza Drop and other random quarter stealers. As you can tell, most of my arcade experience comes from Showbiz and Chuck E Cheese. Modern (post 90s) arcades are all about DDR for me.

I am very thankful to have been a kid in the 80's. Even more thankful to my Mom and Dad for being great parents, because that definitely made a difference. The trackball on Centipede rocked.

I miss those days man. The retro arcades are cool, but nothing compares to the oldschool arcades. Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of console and Pc games but as a child this was my ticket to new experiences, new ideas, meeting new people and beating a game together was the best.

Arcade cabinets just look wrong to me if they don't have a metal ashtray bolted to the side. Fond memories of playing terrible arcade games in the mid-80s in Ziggy's in Selkirk here! Great times!

Oh I wanted this video to be longer! Great topic😁 My dad always kept spare change in an old cashew can. He'd ask me to roll all the coins for him every so often. Then he'd let me KEEP the rolled quarters and drop me at the arcade! I thought that was the coolest thing ever.

Nice video. Where I live we have 2 large 80's retro arcades that do a lot of business. Everything old is now new again. Sadly the friends I used to hang out with have all moved, so it can be a little depressing.

1 arcade that i frequent each summer is the pinball meuseum This is where i played alot of the classics like donkey kong, pac man, super mario bros (yes believe it or not smb got an arcade release),pong, tetris, breakout, galaga, galaxian. Dig dig, centipede etc Actually i do have a suggestion for the next backpedal Original cartoons the ones that poped up on premiem and cable channels back then in the 80s such as mr. Hiccup, henry's cat, the little prince, simon and the land of chalk, sports cartoons, stevie washington etc Then everything changed with doug, rugrats, ren and stimpy and the simpsons that started the original cartoon boom We later got more original cartoons not just on cable but also on non cable channels alongside cartoons based on franchises durring the animation rennesiance of the 90s 2 stupid dogs, duckman, the critic, rockos modern life, beavis and butthead, liquid television, the Maxx, the head, brothers grunt, eek the cat, bump in the night, aaah real monsters, life with louie, bobby's world, nightmare ned, king of the hill, hey arnold, dexter's lab, kablam, angry beavers, johnny bravo, cow and chicken, shookems and meat (your milage may vary), space goofs, toonsylvania, project geeker, powerpuff girls, wild thornberrys, mouse and monster, mike lu and og, spongebob squarepants, ed edd and eddy, courage the cowardly dog, i am weasel, recess, pepper ann, angelia annaconda, mission hill, dilbert, home movies, the pj's south park, dr. Katz, family guy, a little curious, crashbox, and durring that time was the anime boom which bruoght us pokemon, digimon, dragon ball and dragon ball z, sailor moon which would later pave the way for more adult anime on toonami, sci fi channel and adult swim Even in the 2000s and 2010s, original cartoons were still coming out like a rocket With stuff like teachers pet, as told by ginger, rocket power, alot of the adult swim, comedy central, and mtv stuff that deserves its own genere, invader zim, sheep in te big city, time squad, proud family, lloyd in space, samurai jack, kids next door, billy and mandy, evil con carne, chalkzone, my life as a teenage robot, robot jones, danny phantom, jimmy neutron, fosters home, dave the barbarrian, megas xlr, catscratch, camp lazlo, johnny test, the x's buzz on maggie, yin yang yo, my gym partners a monkey, squirrel boy, pucca, the replacements, el tigre, chowder, phineas and ferb,mighty b, making fiends (thats an obscure one), flapjack, kick buttowski, fanboy and chum chum, adventure time, regular show, robotomy, fish hooks, secret mountain fort awesome, problem solverz, gumball, gravity falls, uncle grandpa, Sanjay and craig, wonder over yonder, clarence, the 7d, steven universe, star vs the forces of evil, over the garden wall, harvey beaks, pig goat banana cricket, we bare bears, pickle and peanut, loud house, mighty magiswords, ok ko, future worm, right now kapow,billy dilley super duper subterranean summer, craig of the creek, welcome to the Wayne, big city greens, bug salad, apple and onion, pinky malinky, mao mao, victor and valentino, amphibia etc There were even pilot showcases as shows or durring commercial breaks that gives us more original cartoons such as what a cartoon, oh yeah cartoons, the nicktoons animation film festival, shorty mcshort shorts, random cartoons Now what caused original cartoons to decline Now to be fair original cartoons are still being made hell glitch techs is another one of my favorite nicktoons But even then there are several reasons for why original cartoons are becoming more niche One reason is because of studio bigwigs who greenlight shows that children want at the time and even today Hence why alot of the live action shows on all three networks aged like milk, there are acceptions of course Another reason is due to the rise of streaming platforms where studios wil put out shows based on their franchises which is not necessarily a bad thing that practice happened beforehand and there do exist great shows based on properties Streaming platforms also put out original cartoons as well but they dont always get the audience they needed But i think the biggest reason for the decline of original cartoons is because of the changing landscape of the audience most children these days are on their phones rather than watching tv Granted there is a benefit people are starting to utilize the internet to make original cartoons popular again, shorts like the amazing digital circus and even stuff beforehand like bravest warriors are webtoons that got alot of prestiege Original cartoons are still being made today, but because of the changing landscape of audiences, and vice versa most of them are not getting the audience the creators needed Hey i just made my own backpedal episode pretty grand eh

Not sure where you are located but NYC/Jersey City has Barcade for anyone missing those days. It's even better - no ash trays but there is a beer holder on every cabinet.

Every time I go to Rochester New York to visit family, I go to the Strong Museum of Play. Inside if a mini 80's arcade where you can play some of the greats from that time.
