😅I think I played this game at a cousins house who had way more games than me. Seems like a pretty solid port of the arcade the hoops are bigger. The arcade has the surf hat while the nes guy looks like a killer clown or something with a red hat lol. Great comparison.

I'm kinda biased on this one 'cause I've played the NES one first in my childhood)) But it's obvious that sound was better on the arcade. Visually wise though...I'd say they're pretty much equal.

While I think the arcade is better in terms of visuals and audio I do think the vertical screen does hurt it a bit which in some ways makes the NES port a better choice.

@@oldfan4049 Lol! There are so many games like that where as I kid I couldn't get past the first level and now when I go back I'm like, how could I not beat this? That is a fun level though and overall this game is way more fun than I expected.

The only place I've played Circus Charlie was on the the Konami Arcade Hits collection on the DS. It's an okay, kind of fun game, but it's not a favorite nor do I have any nostalgia for the game to boost it up a bit. The arcade version looks and sounds better than the NES port here, but the NES version gives you a slighter wider field-of-view, which the narrow fov is an annoyance I had with the vertical monitor orientation of the original (which the DS version keeps).

I'd never heard of this one before so I didn't come in with any nostalgia either. I can see this being a guilty pleasure if it's a game you grew up with but otherwise it's nothing to write home about. I can't decide which one I like better for the exact reasons you mentioned. The audio and video is superior on the arcade but having a wider play area is more crucial for a game like this.

@@RetroComparisons The arcade version of Track and Field is in a screen format like this as are a fair few other 80s Konami games that in genres that don't fit well with a vertical screen since they scroll horizontally (Contra and Super Contra come to mind). Also, even though Circus Charlie is kind of a sort-of different, slower take on Track and Field, it fails to be quite as fun of a game.

@@shotgunl That sucks for Track & Field. I don't think I've played the arcade version so that's unfortunate to find out that it's the vertical screen. Whether it be hurdles or javelin it seems to be way more ideal for a full screen experience.

I may too. The arcade is slightly better visually and with audio but the wide screen makes this a little easier.
