Arcade1up Golden Tee 3D Midway Arcade Classics XL At Costco

Lots of hate in this in the enthusiast community but this isn’t made for them (for good or bad), this is a GATEWAY cabinet! This will be a lot of people’s first home arcade unit as the wide range of gameplay will appeal to some when the other units offered in the big box stores haven’t. And unlike ALU, this has perhaps better art and graphics branding and looks less generic. So a good blend of an arcade-like look with multicade level of games. It’s not for me but that is ok. I think they will sell out and meet Costco’s goal. Sure we all want the QBerts of the world for the hard core folks, but it takes cabinets like this selling in the 13,000 unit range to make those low run 1000-3000 run cabinets maybe possible. This will be a lot of people first cabinet and they won’t be as concerned about “authenticity of game play” as the enthusiast … and that’s ok. Haters are gonna hate. Gamers are gonna game. I welcome more into the community as that can only increase our chances to eventually get the QBerts one day. Thanks for a PHENOMENAL first of the kind, hands on video of the newest from A1up. I’m glad you found one. I’m definitely getting one. I missed out on the original small one and the XL. I wanted the XL and everyone complained about the monitor. So I was excited for the deluxe for the form factor matching my other cabs but people complained about the track ball being too close to the screen. So I was wondering what to do. This definitely answers my prayers it’s bigger with the better controls and BOE monitor and I’m glad it has other games as I like golden tee but definitely was on the fence vs a cab my boys would actually play. I’ll be getting one soon. Hopefully it will be $100 off for Black Friday.

The Golden Tee stuff might be interesting. More relaxing type games. A stand up Gorf... Hmmm. I doubt there were any changes to the emulation. I still think something is slightly off somewhere since my scores are consistantly half of what I get on real machines. Also had the ocasional bug where Space Warp would repeat. The shape might look a little strange but it might be better for taller players. I heard the marquee could get in the way on the Midway Legacy cabinet. Defender... I have no idea how that would play with that button layout. Probably took out the reverse button and did thrusting with the stick I suspect. Online high scores could be a nice touch. One problem for me though... I have the Midway Legacy cabinet and the MKII coctail table already so outside of the Golden Tee type games I own the games already. Twice in some cases. I would rather play Gorf standing up but my monitor is vertical so it's right for that (no rank lights though). The emulation probably wasnt fixed and it would be nice to have a setting to play the older, easier Program1 version as an option at times. One more thing kinda kills it for me..... "And the sign says you gotta have a membership card to get inside....uuuuh!" Why can't stuff like this just go to places like Walmart or Best Buy? Been going nuts with mini systems lately. Got an NES mini for like $69 I think and a Turbografx 16 mini for $150. Need to slow down. Space is getting to be an issue as well.

@@PDX7 If Gorf was fixed I "might" consider it. I still can't put my finger on it. Hard set arcade Gorf machines I played... Garcade I had about 107,000 with 4 ships. I think at Nerdhaven I had over 120,000 with 6 ships after only a couple of plays. On my MKII coctail table I've only gotten around 69,000 with 6 ships and I have played it to death! There is a difference somewhere. I suspect the fireballs might be faster or more often at times but not sure. I just know the results I get are consistent. Options to play the easier Program1 version would be cool just to see if I could top my high score from like 40 years ago. (A little over 500,000 with six ships). Much easier set but NEVER see it anymore anywhere. Would take a couple hours I'm sure to try and top it. Wishful thinking but a cab that uses that style stick might be cool but the games mostly would not be popular enough. Gorf, Satan's Hollow, Solar Fox, Journey, Tron and Discs of Tron. Can't remember if Cosmic Cruiser had one. Buck Rogers kinda had one but it was like aluminum I think. Zaxxon, Super Zaxxon, Future Spy? Well it looks like a lot of cool golf games on the current one.

@@PDX7 Sinistar is somewhat playable on the MKII coctail but not having the 49 position stick like bubbles... Your ship moves at full speed at all times and only in 8 directions. Playable but it does make a difference.

Got another question. If that stuff is "online" for high scores are there things like different cabinets with the same games on them having online high scores that are "combined"? Like if there were multiple Pac-Man cabs that had online support but only one high score leaderboard is used? (Not by individual cabinets)

Yes, it should be along the high scores with GT XL, deluxe and MK cabs online. I am still wondering if Rampage, Joust and Gauntlet can be played online…

Once these are available at most Costcos like Pacman was, it will show up online and you can buy online. I’ll keep an eye and when they show up I’ll get the word out.

Just thought of another issue. Paperboy? Sinistar and Bubbles are kinda playable with an 8-way stick but playing Paperboy with a digital joystick gets to be a mess. They probably have those lines on the left side and botton of the screen but it's still a pain to play with any degree of decent control.

PD7, I think Arcade1Up just about nailed this new cabinet with the games list, but let me know what you think of this. If they chose to put in a couple of extra buttons, they have room, what would you think if Arcade1Up added 6 more Midway games to this cabinet bringing it up to 26 games? Adding all 3 NBA Jam games and all 3 NFL Blitz Games, two player versions? I think anyone who was put off by the cabinet artwork would forget about that, because this cabinet would now have the potential to replace 4 cabinets. And just because I'm dreaming at the moment, what if they replaced Defender and Paperboy on the cabinet, because they just wouldn't play well here, and put on instead, Robotron and Smash TV? I think Arcade1Up should've called me up before deciding on the final release :) Still, this is a decent games list for the cab, not perfect, but decent. Oh, and before I go... I REALLY want to see you get that Werewolf! I want to see a showdown between it and Mr. West! Have a great one! vgv

I guess I’ve seen so many hideous multicades over the years, that I’m not completely turned off by this one lol. It’s honestly not THAT bad. It’s just a weird combination. Thinking of getting rid of my golden tee xl with the crappy monitor and just replace with this one. The 599 price is pretty decent although I’m kinda feeling Costco might clearance them out for 299 if it doesn’t sell like Pac-Man did last year. Good thing for the 90 day return policy huh.
