Wizard of Wor always played that way in the arcade. Player 1 was on the right side. The key to Wizard of Wor is using certain "safe spots" where you stand and just shoot like crazy waiting for the enemies to run into your shots. Mazes get much more wide open after about 8 waves.

I have this cab, u can use sticks only on Tapper. Left stick controls up and down for the bar u are serving. Left and right to collect the money and empty mugs. Right stick down pours the beers.

Hey a little tip for you on GORF. The main thing is not to button mash as the game punishes you for it. You want to just push the button slower and your firepower increases. I figured that out when I wasn't getting anywhere and it seemed to take forever to penetrate that forcefield. lol After I figured that part out, I was able to progress in the game a little further. Great review though man!

@@PDX7Yeah, it's called the "Quark Laser". If you shoot again your first shot disappears. Tac-Scan is the only game I can think of offhand that works that way. Nice if you miss something you don't have to wait for your shot to leave the screen before firing another shot. It looks dark red for the hopping robot so it should be the hard set like mine. What's the current high score for Gorf online so far? I'm at about 69,000 with 6 ships and 64,000 for 3 ships but mine doesn't have online support. Had about 115,000 at Garcade with 4 ships so something still feels slightly off with the emulation.

lol she handled it pretty well:) still have to move it downstairs, my back was having spasms all day yesterday so haven’t moved it yet. After it’s out of sight she will be a lot happier:)

I was interested in this cab until I realized it didn't have online play. Online Gauntlet and Rampage with more than 2 people makes the MK Deluxe better for me. But I do love that this includes Sinistar.

Definitely a big miss, would’ve been great playing Rampage and Gauntlet online. Sinistar is a huge bonus probably why I got it.

Great review! This cabinet is actually not bad, if you're the only one playing it. That player 2 button position is just horrible. But, it's only me. I'm not big into the XL line though, so it's a low priority cab. I'm more interested in Golden Tee Deluxe.

So glad the Defender button arrangement is good! And you would think for the price it would have online play. I am a “Player One” gamer and rarely if ever played with others back in the day, and so it wouldn’t affect me but I’m an anomaly I think and as such they should have tried to add it whenever possible for an XL level cabinet. Thanks for a great review PD7 👊🏻😎🕹️

Your review has perked my interest in this cab. May get it as it seems it’s better than a lot of people thought it would be. I want these Midway games and getting golf/ bowling with it is a plus.

Vertical stacks on Klax will not get you far unless you are just trying to get thru some waves. Diagonals score more and if you do 4 or 5 pieces its even higher. If you can make the "Big X" on that harder starting wave you get a huge bonus and warp ahead a bunch of levels. There was someone on KZbin that could get insanely high scores setting up chain reactions where if one set disapeared it would cause another set to drop and clear, etc.

I actually found the track ball to be more precise on controlling speed and direction with Paperboy. Might just be a right/vs/ left hand motor control thing...

I couldn’t get a feel for it on trackball yet, might have to practice for a while.

Sinistar you shoot the rocks. Eventually little dots will come out of them. You pick them up with your ship to turn them into Sinibombs. You launch the Sinibombs to defeat Sinistar. Firing just 1 sinibomb will indicate which direction to fly to find him. Hard game! I can maybe clear 2 of them on normal settings.

Great job Phil! Strong review. Love the Midway classics. I missed out on the Defender Partycade but this is kind of the best of both worlds with Golden T and Bowling. My main problem is the ugly arcade classic logo in front of the control panel, can’t believe anyone thought that would be appealing. Keep up the great content!

Phil, great review as always!! Really liked that you showed most games and gameplay for each one. Love the side by side comparison. For those who didn’t have a chance to purchase golden tee xl this is a great cab to pickup. I love the size of cab, I was all in on the deluxe but after seeing your review KI Pro and these 2 side by side it gives the illusion of a full size cab. What’s holding me back in buying this one is saving for the ALP snoopy👊🏼

The cabinet looks gorgeous! I might have to grab this if it goes on sale. I think this is the best way to play Gorf and Sinistar. Sinistar on an upgraded speaker would be wild! That game is spooky.

Rootbeer tapper can be played with just the 2 joysticks..It would be almost impossible on later levels to have to use the "A" button..It's also much more fun played this way...

You standing in front of the cabs makes me understand why XL's are the only way to go. It's nearly the perfect height for an average person. Plus I have a Costco membership so why not? I just wasn't into Pac-Man or the midway mashup but I swear if an X-men ever made it into an XL I would be all over that. Would maybe even buy two 😂

Definitely a miss without smash tv and robotron. Also without online play. Probably a license issue. I’m sure they intended to have those games on here eventually. Rampage was one of my favorites when I was a kid in the arcade and also king of the monsters on neo Geo big red. Thanks for taking the hit buying both cabs for the review you are probably the only crazy KZbinr to do it 👊

PD7, Great review! Just wanted to stop by to say that Tapper should work fine on this machine using the 2 joystick method. That's the way the arcade version is played, with two sticks. You have to pull down on the stick to pour and then release it to serve the drink. I was so excited to get this game with that control scheme on my Midway Defender Legacy cabinet that I actually bought a wood joystick topper for the tap control. SO FUN! Have a great one! vgv

If I didn't already have the GT XL, this would certainly be a purchase for me. It's a better value for certain. It would be nice to know if the trackball is really the same. I guess you can tell by pulling up the decks.

Nice machine. Omitting Wi-Fi is a huge miss for the price. They could’ve also added the USB option for bringing your own controller like the Defender Partycade offered. That would’ve really fit the setup, imo. Nice review as always!

I like the look on the new cabinet, the control issues on the extra games esp Toobin, thats a 4 button game no joystick, here I think it falls alittle short. On a dip I'd consider. The better monitor is the biggest upgrade to me. The Thing Drops tomorrow, looking forward to it, one of my favorite movies, wonder if they have figures for it? What day are you going to Chicago, I guess alot of people are flying out today, make sure you tell BiggggyD I said hi. Can you measure the viewable screen for gorf bottom left to upper right, the actual game screen not the stuff on the left and right.

Phil you can play root beer tapper with just the sticks, that’s always been a thing since the first MK cab was released. Also don’t hold the button down when playing sinister you won’t have as much firing power, God I love you, we need more playing games and less walkin and talkin lol anyways when’s lunch!? The claw machine isn’t coming to Best Buy as a display unit I’m starving! 👊🏼

So much potential, saddled by a stupid button layout. They should have just made it a 1P 6 button layout. I don't like GT or Bowling enough for it to make a difference, I'd rather have a Defender or Joust cabinet for the Midway stuff. Still the cabinet is solid and there is plenty of room on the deck. This could be a great mod cabinet. Add more buttons, replace the ball and convert P2 to a spinner and it could be a good all in one cab.

Great review. It kind of reminds me of the Chicago gaming arcade but that had over a hundred games and a pricey amount. I want one but have to sell something first just hope Costco doesn't sell out soon.

If you look at the original toobin cabinet's controls you'd see that the buttons are laid out a bit like Mortal Kombat except with the middle button lower so an MK cabinet is actually more ideal for that game.. Neither cabinets are ideal for Paperboy though, haha

I didn’t know that the games didn’t offer online play. That makes this garbage compared to the. ALU imo. You can use a ssd and add 10,000 games to the ALU. Also the control deck on the ALU is amazing.

I did a search on my Pac-Man Deluxe cab for PD7 and it came back with nothing for the high scores. You have a Galaga Deluxe, right? (Should basically be the same with a different skin?) I figured one of your cabs would have Pac-Man or Galaga type games with online suport but it's not showing anything. Loki7 turned up but I dont have any of those games online.

@@PDX7 I saw PD7 in your video so I figured the only other way it could show up like that was to have spaces after it. I tried many variations adding spaces and turned up with nothing. You might have it set to something like not posting scores or maybe hiding it from view to post anonymous.

Are the control decks swappable? Like, can you use the Golden Tee XL control panel to navigate and play certain games on the Midway XL? My idea was to buy the Midway for parts for my original GTXL, then use the new XL frame for a modding project

I’m not sure Mike, the original pcb for GT might not work with the controls on Midway. The trackball could be a good spare, be cool to have an extra for a project.

I'm guessing the player 1 is on the right because the yellow guy is player 1 in the game, but it also goes against everything else using player 1 on the left. Which, yeah, is confusing. Looks like a pretty good cabinet. Too bad Joust and Wizard of Wor aren't online play compatible. That's why I want a Joust cabinet. I have nothing I can really play people on.
