When I was growing up in the 80's I thought the good times of an arcade would never end. Well it only took until the 90's to realize I was wrong. A good arcade was hard to come by. Most of them by that time were brightly lit. A good arcade is dark .The new arcades were all tarted up with those useless redemption games. You know the ones. Drop in a token and it spits out tickets. If it has anything to do with tickets Im not interested. It was back then I was wishing for an arcade so that I could still have that great experience. Since then companies have made 60 in one or 200 in one game cabinets. I found that these did not appeal to me. The reason is, Being in an arcade is treat for all your senses. Seeing all the games, Finding the one you want to play and taking in the artwork of the machine as you walk up to it. The control panel only has the necessary controls for that game. The 60 in one machines are all cluttered up with 4 joysticks 12 buttons a trackball and who knows what else. It stinks. A pac man joy stick feels different than a donky kong stick I dont feel like looking at a track ball when I'm playing Burger time. Arcades were a treat for your sense of feel. And of course the sounds Nothing filled in the background better than all the other games surrounding you. Who can forget trying to set your high score and hearing "Body Blow Body Blow Body Blow." from punchout Or the beeping of the starting line of Pole Position. I would even go so far as to say even your sense of smell was stimulated at the arcade. The smell of the wood of the cabinets as the warm electronics are baking all day has its own smell. They were great times. I have done my best to re create what I loved. Its pretty good but I dont think anything will ever be the same.
