Thumbs up on the video, but I could not DISAGREE more. We are so incredibly spoiled here in the West; expectations are always sky high. No individual could make an arcade of this quality (no matter how you grade it) for that money. Period. It isn't possible. Only economies of scale allow its very existence. We should consider ourselves lucky to have these options at all.

I personally think they could have done better on quality control. I mean, just spending a few dollars to reinforce the control stick on Tron would have made a huge difference. There's no way anyone can tell me they didn't know how easy it was to snap it off. Mostly little things here and there would have helped, I understand saving money by using less expensive controls, but some of the issues with 1ups are just borderline mismanagement.

Web ought the TMNT A1U for youngest son for Christmas in 2019. He was ecstatic about the game and our family enjoyed many fun and memory filled hours. His buddies came over and played with him and he had a blast. In 2022 he asked if he could sell his machine and use the money to get himself a Nintendo OLED Switch, which he did. For the price an A1U is a good bargain, but there are only about 4 cabinets that are to my liking. The MK, the 12-N-1, NBA Jam Shaq Edition and the Street Fighter model. My wife bought me an AT Legends Cabinet for Father's day in 2021 and I'm still enjoying that machine. I prefer a full-size cabinet and I have the space for several of them plus several full-size pinball tables. I'm saving up for a custom piece from Dreamcades, which will give me all of the Willams, Midway, Taito, and Capcom titles. I might still snag on of the aforementioned A1U machines to have in my office. What better way to stay awake during an "All Hands" conference call than playing SF or NBA Jam.

I got a Pandora's Box joystick for $50, a flea market monitor for $20 and a Genesis Arcade Stand for $30. It may not look like the arcades I went to as a child but it plays the games decently enough, looks nice as a piece of furniture that actually blends in a home, and was way cheaper than investing in the Arcade1up train.

@@callingallretrogamers Yeah. I was tempted by the looks, but I knew the insides of these Arcade1up were not that different from other "emulation boxes." It made me respect those old "MyBigGames" arcade backs from back in the day. Sure, those joysticks were trash, but the software being specially coded for the machine feels like a lost art now.

I can understand but respectfully disagree with your overall opinion, but may I suggest that you may be missing an angle of the A1U cabs: Being one of the things you criticized, sitting in the background rarely played, a cabinet still serves to stand as a decoration and can help recreate the classic arcade retro atmosphere and add to the experience playing on whatever system you prefer to actually play on. If your goal is to actually play the games frequently, you might be well served to upgrade some hardware; but why pay for full size if you don’t expect it to get much play?

@@callingallretrogamers I love 💗 laying the games, but some of my love for my all time favorite video game cabinets isn’t limited to playing the game and I may or may not actually play that particular game very often anymore but still want the games cabinet in 3:4 scale forced perspective in the background to establish a mood or atmosphere while I work or play on something else. Like I said, if you do plan to play that particular game a lot, the question is whether you prefer the experience of upgrading a dedicated cab or just playing on a multicade. To each their own.

This community is honest and as a EM arcade collector and as of last month a new A1U collector it’s appreciated. Bought 6 of these cabinets within one month - Tron, Tempest, Joust, Dragons Lair, GoldenTee3D, and Ridge Racer. Without a doubt I will be investing money to upgrade controls on most of them and probably where it will make a difference LCD screens. Tron being the first so it can be played without feeling like I’m going to snap the joystick when playing the light cycle round. I have Pandora Boxes with Sanwa, I built my own 60-1. Problem I have is played all of these when they came out in the early 80s and although in my 50s haven’t lost my memory on how they should play. Wizard of War. May be putting the automated restrictors on it as the sticks work for MK but not for Wizard of War. What the originals cost versus the 3/4 size and the fact I have 400lb Electro-Mechanical games. It’s worth it for this old school gamer who lived all sides of arcade to modify and still spend a heck of a lot less money and space. While still getting the feel and atmosphere of the early 80s. My wife honestly shakes her head but luckily gets it.

It would have been cheaper to buy 2 of the Legends Ultimate arcades for $349 each from Sam's, and put 4-way restrictors on one of the joystick sets so you can just play 4 way games on it like WOW, pacman, dig dug etc. $349 is a lot cheaper than any 1up, and it's not a toy. I bought some 1ups just because of the way they look, but they just aren't worth playing. Too small, junk controls.
@Florescj12 Жыл бұрын
@billybatson8657 for a lot of games yes, but unless you plan to switch out the controls for a flight stick or add a steering wheel for driving games..how about guns as well, the 1ups work just right for what they are. I have the atgames as well..love it, but choosing a game from 1000s isn't always the best for folks who arent familiar or lack the patience finding a game they want to play. Nice to have dedicated cabs such as 1ups for us simpletons.

That's for sharing your thoughts. I do however disagree. I'm not sure why you would say that these are only worth $200. Have you checked the prices for furniture lately? You can't get anything decent for $200. I have this same cabinet actually, and although I wish the screen was better, I'm very happy with it overall. I think due to the sub-par screen, a $399 price point would be more appropriate, but they also go on sale fairly often for $400-$450 so it's not hard to get a deal on one. Also, I haven't had any issues with the controls. They aren't high-end, but they work just fine for me. I've seen people complain about the price, but then go spend an additional $300 on mods so it really just depends on what's important to you.

As I explained in the video the reason I say it's only worth $200 for me is because the quality of everything is really cheap. For me it is a big issue and I wanted to give an honest review with out the rose tinted glasses.

The screens used for many of the 2022 releases were not good with the viewing angles. Prior to 2022 they used BOE monitors which are really good. I believe they are using BOE again for new releases. The controls are OK for casual play- just use a little Loctite on the ball and they will stay put. Screw cap covers should be included-not sure why they aren't as they are likely less than $2 at cost. I agree not worth $500 for most of these cabs, but $400 and under with the good monitors seems fair to me. I have many Arcade1ups and both ATGames Legends ultimate and pinball. No doubt that ATGames is better quality, but the artwork on the Arcade1up cabs brings the game room together for the nostalgia factor.

I'm lucky enough to have several Arcade 1Ups, a NeoGeo MVX-S and an Atgames Legends Ultimate. Love all of mine and wouldn't be with out them. Though in fairness I have luckily avoided the cabs with the inferior monitors (luck more than judgement). Somthing about Arcade games pick up and play fits in around my parental and work responsibilities better. A quick 30 minutes of gaming or a rare afternoon free I'd much rather score chase on Big Buck, Golden Tee or Dragons Lair than start a modern game. Though of course that is my preference....horses for courses as the saying goes. As for the buttons and controls it always makes me smile at the community insistence that the A1Up buttons and sticks need replacing. Now by all means do as you wish....no one should tell you how to game or what on etc. But with that said my memories of Arcades is of sticky low quality buttons, joy sticks with huge dead spots and inconsistent audio across multiple cabs. The arcades were hardly a nirvana of finest controls and monitors.....at least in my experience. So far all my A1Ups are stock and I'm quite happily throwing fireballs, fatality-ing, Pac-Man-ing and gaming without any problems.

I actually bought and canceled my Sams order for a Legends Ultimate at $349 twice, then they went out of stock. I went to Sams to see if they had any there, and actually saw one on display, but not in stock at the store, and kicked myself in the butt for not buying it. I had been watching "arcades" in the search on the Sams site and had been hitting refresh to see what other 1ups they may mark down to $199, and suddenly it was showing that the Legends Ultimate was back in stock and I bought one. After getting my Legends and playing it for the past 2 weeks, I think I've given up on buying more 1ups. Unless they're less than $300 I just can't bring myself to do it. 1ups are really just decorative furniture. They aren't really all that playable, they're just toys. I would suggest if you just want to decorate a room with arcade machines, buy 1ups. If you actually like playing the games, slamming the buttons and joystick, get a Legends and a usb stick with coinopx, or at least use BYOG, and add a Bit LCD, which is AMAZING. I was hesitant to get a Legends at first, but speaking as a 56 year old old-school gamer that spent half his youth in arcades in the late 70s and early 80s, I'm glad I did. The Iiarcade is actually another good option, as I believe it has more processing power, but I liked that the Legends Ultimate has the track ball and spinners, although I would love to also have a rotating joystick option for games like Heavy Barrel, Victory Road, and others, but you can't have it all I guess.

I nearly got this cabinet, because I loved Joust, and Defender. But, when I saw how washed out that monitor was, I just went ahead with the Midway Legacy cab, as it has the same games, maybe with one or two exceptions, but more importantly, it has the BOE monitor. I do have a Defender 40th Party cade, which I may move into a Defender cab, if I can find one, and sacrifice the Mortal Kombat collection. At least I'd have an authentic control panel, and BOE monitor for Defender in a 3/4 upright. anyway. With cataracts, I just can't see the TN monitors. So, I have to find cabs with only the BOE, or similar monitor. Thanks for sharing.

I don't think you should discount them. yeah, they are cheap by comparison, but it's a good starting point, especially if you're willing to mod them. If you want an "original" arcade experience, then yeah, save your money. However, if you want to play these games in a similar fashion to the original experience, there are few options that are closer. You're never going to get that same feeling you got from "back in the day" going into a dark arcade and playing these things, but at least you CAN play them. I bought a 12-1 Tempest machine and I LOVE having it around. There was no other way that I could find (short of buying an actual Tempest machine for THOUSANDS) to play that game again. It came with Crystal Castles, so BONUS! I'm considering a TRON machine as well, and possibly picking up a 4 player machine to mod with a larger library.

Well I think everybody knew going into it that it's a 3/4 skill ratio of the original machines and that's why it's $500. But I'm wondering if you ever did a review on the deluxe cabs the ones without risers that 66 in tall and that have A Better Built setup. Or even better than that the deluxe Vault editions that have higher performance buttons and advanced joystick and also all those buttons light up and has a light up. It's at 300.00 of that of each machine goes towards licensing and Publishing and using the trademark of these games. I bought a $700 volt Edition and had no problems and looks just as good as a full-size arcade.

I will say the stock sticks are not quite that bad though, and the whole "ball top came off" thing is just an aspect of these Japanese style sticks. I have premium fightsticks for fighters that have the same issue unless I tighten them periodically. Arcade1up tops do have a bit worse threading, but not by much, and I can tell you from experience the Atgames cab does the same thing. Arcade1up buttons...yeah they are functional but I dont like them either. And the screen thing, they made several cabs in 2022 with a TN monitor and Joust is one of them. They have tons of other cabs with this BOE brand IPS monitor that have good viewing angles and better blacks. 2022 releases were very inconsistent for the company imo. I do have several of their cab though and have found some great ones. Maybe one will catch your eye in the future with improvements. The Atgames is nice too though. The stock game library on it is terrible lol but people add their own roms, myself included.

Valid points, however that screen they used in the joust and mk legacy cabinets in 2022 were Complete trash. Most Of the other 1ups use BOE IPS monitors which are phenomenal from every angle. I am not gonna argue with you on the controls or the materials though.

Thanks! My main issue is they're cutting costs like removing the BOE screen with an inferior one and raising the cost. Hopefully I'd enough people talk about it they'll learn from their past mistakes.

Great upfront video and the backlash against A1Up is becoming fast and furious. Me? I am fortunate to get my Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man Legacy Cabs and my Super Pac-Man Partycade but that's it. Many of A1Up's variety of cabinets are poorly made and do not stand against the test of time. Mainly because of cost cutting and cutting corners and the Facebook pages that support this company are not legit simply because they are paid by A1Up to be nameless bots that shill for the company and nothing more. In the end, we get what we paid for. First quality? In a word: NO!!

Glad you're enjoying your cabs. I love the Pac-Man/Namco franchise. I didn't have a bias ether way and went into making this video with an open mind. Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences.

i have joust, dig dug, original pac-man, class of 81, and centipede. and several partycades and countercades. haven't modded any of them. never had a problem with the screens, the controls are fine. i've hit 1.2million on joust, and have the top or top3 scores on most games on the namco and atari ones. i don't care about the price, the quality is fine. basically unless you're an expert (which i am), you're never going to notice, and it won't matter in the end. i enjoy the leaderboards, and thats the main point. people like you, just need to get a multicade or real arcade game. you dont care about having a mini arcade at a fraction of the price. it's about the nostagia, and you might not have been around, so these will never appeal to you. later -1

Glad you're enjoying it. For me part of the nostalgia is having good quality to replicate the arcade experience. It's not for everyone and respectfully to each their own.

For sure I think At Games Legends or iiRcade is a better option.

If you have some disappointments with this one then just be lucky you didn’t buy one of the initial releases lol

Why is Mortal Combat in the wrong aspect ratio? Everything is too tall and thin. Circles are ovals. What a bizarre error to make. That alone would keep me from purchasing it.

well hope the US continues to stop buying them and maybe the UK might just get the best old games not pacman! STARWARS with the yoke fk 1 up from the uk!!!!!

We both know that won't happen. 😉 Most of the general public who buys these at Walmarts and local stores are not hardcore gamers. They don't care about the things that matter to us.
