Arcade1Up PacMania Legacy Screen Mod Can We Fix It? Last year Arcade1Up released some impressive new legacy edition cabinet with great form factors, cabinet art and impressive game lineups that were unfortunately hampered by some awful screens they chose to use. The PacMania Legacy was no different and may in fact have one of the worst viewing screens in all of home arcade. I really wanted to keep the cabinet but something had to be done about the screen. I luckily had an old spare MK screen from wave 2 lying around and wondered would that be a suitable replacement screen and would it even work?

Glad to see you're modding now! Just to save you some time for the next one, you can take the control panel off, then unscrew the bezel so you can access the screen.. then you can pop that out and put it all back without taking the whole thing apart. I enjoyed the content!

Bravo Michael!! You did an awesome job on modding up this machine. I would not have the patience to do what you've done. Fortunately, I can play Pac-Mania on both my Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man Namco Legacy Cabinets with riser and riser boosters and also on my Super Pac-Man Partycade. You did a great banged up job on improving this particular machine. I hope that A1Up can improve future cabinets whether it becomes on either the XL or Pro Models. BOE monitors will always be the best and they should NEVER change.

Having collected bits and pieces of info, I actually think Arcade1up got screwed over by the manufacturer regarding the PacMania and MK 30th cabs. The display in my SF2 gen 1 cab is the SAME model number as the one from the PacMania. This is also true of the panel in the Dell e1715s monitors. Clearly they are not the “same”. What I kind of think happened was Arcade1up couldn’t get the BOE displays due to shortages. They reasonably thought, hey, they aren’t as good, but the screens from the gen 1 and 2 cabs weren’t terrible either. So they ordered a bunch. And designed their PCB around them. And did their prototypes with the old stock panels they had on hand from generation 1 and 2. And then after all of that, when the panels came in, the manufacturer had changed the backlight (but are still selling it with the same model/part number) which caused them to suck, and especially suck in vertical orientation. By this point tho, they had a stack of panels in hand, and a pcb designed around using it, and it would have been very costly to abort using them. It seems likely to me that this fiasco was the manufacturer and that Arcade1up kinda got screwed over by China here. Anyway, pulled the panel from the old SF2 cab I was gonna get rid of anyway, and put the “bad” one in it, and it’s working (albeit with a worse display). Gonna put the old display in PacMania tonight. Should look a lot better. :)

The Dell e1715s used in the popular MK30th swap is ALSO an excellent option for those who don't have a spare Gen 2 A1U monitor laying around... the Dell is also a TN, but it used LED lighting and has wayyyy better contrast than the original, much better viewing angles, and ultra-fast response time (better than the BOEs). It's not perfect... a small bit of washout from the far-left angle, but like your MKII monitor, it's so, SO much better than the Pacmania original! I've done this swap myself (twice... MK30th and Pacmania), and it only costs about $60.

I am trying to use a boe monitor. It works but the aspect ratio is 5/4 instead of the 4/3 if the monitor. This cuts off a piece. Is there a way to change this on the pcb settings?

This is actually quite perfect. I had swapped with a partycade, but the PacMania monitor is apparently 1280x1024, and the partycade was 1280x960, so I got some picture shift effects that sucked (still looked better anyway), but turns out I have a pi hacked SF2 cab that I was gonna give away since I have a better multicade now, and I want to put a pinball table where it’s sitting, so gonna swap screens before I give it away.

Now put in a Jamma 60-1 board for that oh-so coveted Donkey Kong, as Arcade1up will never get that license. I just got the Dell e1715s. Hoping it makes a big improvement. It did for my Joust cab.

How much money are you into and you still need to replace sticks, buttons and marquee. This looks like a Gen 1 cabinet to me. All this to play Pac- Man .

I'm not picking on this channel. I'm posting this on multiple threads. Recently I unsubscribed from many of the home arcade channels I was on previously and tonight, I am unsubscribing to all of them. I'll come back from time to time if there is info I'm looking for, but for the most part, I am done with the subscriptions. I have a multitude of hobbies that range from gaming/VR to muscle cars to SCUBA diving to flying airplanes and then some, but damn, I have never seen any manufacturer get attacked on YT so much for trying to provide consumers with a fun product. People that delve into the minutia of crap like the color of the t-moulding (and whether or not it's real t-moulding), coin door perfection and the stickers on the back of the machine are killing this hobby. You know who you are and you all need to calm the *uck down. Seriously. Give these people some breathing room. If you think you can do better, by all means, get out there and give it a shot.

@@MichaelBtheGameGenie Perhaps on the plexi screws, but I can't fathom unscrewing the side panel screws by hand... You can take those out in 30 seconds with a drill.
