Great review, nice to see the assembly as well as game play. One word of warning to your viewers, I would never glue the dowels in place. While this sounds like a great idea it prevents you from easily disassembling the cab should something break or you decide to mod it.

Gotta tell you Fox, glad I bought Out Run and didn't wait for this. Doesn't seem like a big improvement over that cab and $200 more. The wheel feels awesome on my Sega cab, 1Up definitely nailed that feature. I don't have the sound issues like RR, but same crappy pedals. I teased PDubs for putting his video out first, definitely appreciate you both 👊🏻

So Peter, I just put together my Ridge Racer last night and I gotta say, you definitely dodged a bullet there. It's just an "okay" racing cabinet, especially when comparing to my Outrun cab which is just phenomenal. Despite the cheap pedals on both cabs, of course.

Fox, there's no one that does reviews better than you my man. So in depth and the chilling music! I'm digging this cabinet! Have an open spot on my full size arcade where a cocktail used to be and this will fit the spot in perfect. I think I'll eventually mod it to run a few other racers long term. I’m definitely more of a RR guy. The kids love the games too. Best game to start with is Ace Driver. Then once you get the drifting down on RR1-2, I’d focus on those. You do have to focus on one track at a time. Get that muscle memory and push for the leaderboards. Excellent review.

19kfox, Thanks to you and others for reviewing this cabinet. I paid $500 for Arcade1up's stand-up version of Outrun, and though the games are great, the pedals unfortunately stink. They are way too substandard to be worth that price. They technically work, but the way they feel when I touch them, pressing down on them or not, are way too flimsy, downgrading my experience every time I play. I got exited before the Ridge Racer launched, because John D. mentioned the pedals were upgraded, but what a joke. Updated springs? Really? The cheap plastic-y feel when foot touches pedal is the main issue for me. And at 700 bones, that's not going to cut it. They look identical to the ones I have on the Outrun. I am glad though that they used the same quality steering wheel, which was the shining point of the Outrun cabinet. Thank you and PDubs for saving me the money on this one; a hard pass for me. You don't know how much these reviews help me, so really, THANK YOU :). I'm also glad you're really digging the cabinet. I've played 4 of the 5 games included, minus the sequel to Ace Driver, and love each one. Great selection for sure :) vgv

I think Arcade 1up tried to fix the loud volume from the older cabinets and created a new audio issue with the new cabs.

Love the review man, only have one question. What’s the best way to play this? With a stool or standing up? It seems like it would be uncomfortable either way but I’d love to have this one in my collection

You're reviews are so spot on and candid kfox. I was hoping for a bit more evaluation of the rumble effect but hard to convey on video. The machine looks great ! I dont think I will be picking it up tho since I nodded my outrun sitdown cab with a good seat and plan to raise the cab about 3" with corner furniture risers. Cant wait to see your analysis of T2 and especially if you crack open the guns

The "rumble" really is just a vibration that I wasn't able to pick it up on camera. It's a nice addition but not a standout feature.

Good vid. I'm a dope games guy. Absolutely love my Outrun cab and it looks like I'll be loving this one just as much. On a side note, when you do your T2 review, make sure to comment on the emulation. No one else has yet and it's a lot less than perfect, particularly the audio which is slow and has pops and skips.

How well does T2 emulate on an emulator like mame? Because I’m making my own gun mod with a 32” tv, recoil sindens, and a pc preloaded with gun games. Is it better or just as bad if you emulate it yourself? I’m done with Arcade1up unless they stop releasing flawed products with bad emulation and sound issues and poor graphics that are jagged and not smoothed out and scanlines kind of mask it but they could do better.

I might keep my outrun and Simpsons stock for now but mod them in the future, and I’m going to have a modded racing cab next to outrun and a custom gun cab with 32” tv on a chopped off 1up. I might dismantle my turtles. I actually got the newer one so I might build the new one and use the old riser. It has the original song on the first game and scanlines and online play. I’m also doing a custom Moonwalker with a former Costco MK.

@Rob Krasinski All sounds 🔥. The graphics on the T2 cab are emulated well enough, looks pretty good. No scanlines but there is a smoothing filter on which takes away any jaggies. Looks as good as Buck Hunter Arcade1up, if you've seen that. I should point out that the visuals surprisingly do not slow down and neither does the gun tracking. Gameplay is just as intense as I recall playing it back in the day at the arcades. For some reason, it's just the soundtrack (not the sound fx, which are fine) that seems to slow down big time. This is easily noticed right at the start of the first level. Not sure if the MAME emulation is any better, I haven't played it on MAME in ages.

Glad they got so much right... those audio issues would still be a deal-breaker, for me. It would just be a constant annoyance to have hum of any sort, or to have tinny audio while I'm actually playing. I don't regret cancelling my RR preorder, but hoping they'll take some lessons learned to make their next driving cab even better.

Good review man. Definitely will get this cab. I’m a RR fan. Only thing this cab is missing is multiplayer. Next racing cab I would like to see a motorcycle game. Plus, I would like them to give us multiplayer. Multiplayer will make the racing cabs crazy fun, super competitive and have tons of Replayability. With only having 1 racing cab dropped a year….we the buyers need the multiplayer to keep us playing the cab tons more. Plus, having that feature I would think that would boost sells of a racing cab. Heck with multiplayer that could even be a cab that put your quarters on the glass/Rev to add to his show to give his show more depth.

As much as I love ridge racer and want this I think I'll hold off. It sucks you have to mod the recent cabs to fix the audio issues. I hope that they'll take everything they've learned and all the feedback they've received to make a perfect driving cabinet. Praying for Daytona USA!!

Great vid, thank you! Can you comment on the emulation of the games? There seemed to be some issues in Ridge Racer, Victory Lap and Rage Racer (especially when getting air). If that's an issue throughout all 5 games (and not a recording/compression issue), that's a big red flag....

The games run smooth for the most part. I agree the jumps in Rave Racer are a little jarring but I'm not sure that's different from the arcade version.

An arcade cab should be able to get loud! If one desires. People complained about older A1Up models being "too loud" smfh Now they're too low. It's a friggin' arcade cab ffs. Always something..

You would need to use Patch Cable to get that local head to head through the Ethernet port you mentioned. Regular Ethernet cable wouldn’t be able to do the trick

Shame you can't see your car racing in Ridge Race like the PS1 version. I'll keep my Out RUN cab, because this doesn't seem to offer too much of an improvement.

Wish this cabinet was readily available in the UK. We get such a limited range from Arcade1up. I think if I had it, I would install a small hinge or something at the front of the pedal to keep it on the base

Using blue loctite and wood glue is a good idea.....if your product is not defective and you don't have to disassemble it for shipping it back to have an exchange ^^

I also like having my 1up Arcades on risers because they are so short but How do you like having the pedal assembly on the floor compared to having it tucked in ? Is it more of a trip hazard ? Does it affect the game play having the pedal assembly away from the cabinet ? Aesthetically, how does it look? Interested in buying this cabinet but not sure if having the pedal assembly not tucked in would change how the cabinet looks and plays ?? Any help or feedback would be appreciated

Having the pedals on the floor hasn’t caused any issue for me. They only tuck into the riser about 2” so it doesn’t change their placement that much.

You can fix the hum on any cabinet with a ground loop isolator, roughly $9-$12 on amazon

Great review 19K! Like I said in Pdubs comments....I have zero nostalgia for this cabinet but all of a sudden want it?!?! For speaker gate....I know the speaker quality sucks but I'm wondering if there's an issue with their board outputting sound. I've replaced my KI with computer speakers and sometimes the sound cracks and pops so it had me wondering...maybe they made a change on the board and not the speakers??

Thanks! I think that pedal could be a deal breaker as I'm sure it'd make it feel less-than-arcade quality. To me, though, the only way I would be willing to spend big money on a racing arcade would be if it was a full sit-down, arcade quality type device. Something I could hook up a PS4 to or whatever. I know that's likely a lot more, but maybe someday I'll find one used that'll work.

I would of preferred Outrun stand up but those cabs are sold out a long time ago, the only other cab I would get is the new Atari cab because of the controls. I always found the stand up and home versions of Ridge Racer ultimately disappointing. For me, the MAJOR draw of Ridge Racer is it was the only racing game I could find that included a CLUTCH pedal & H-Pattern Manual shifter! Without the 'realistic' car control hardware the game just felt a bit bland...

No. Def not worth $700. A1U took too many shortcuts with quality. I own several A1U machines and while I have a minor complaint here or there, what they did with this to speed it into production was simply unforgiveable considering what they are asking for it. When we spend $700 we shouldn't have to be forced to upgrade a sound system or make mods to the pedals, just to name two. This is a very hard pass for me.

idk what emulator Arcade1Up is using, but it looks like it's suffering from the same emulation glitches as MAME (e.g. flickering shadows in Ace Driver). also noticing some framerate dips. not good for a $700 machine!
