@@shredder9536 Just know this is you not being able to come to terms with the fact you have lived much of your life on other people's terms. wasted time? wasted time is synonymous with pure freedom, especially in retrospect, living as a subject in the modern age. your comment is a defense mechanism, and an understandable one. that is an undeniable fact given your reaction to the line. and that's just one of the many reasons why it's one of the greatest lyrics of our age. you've given yourself away and there is nothing wrong with that. what you can do though is choose freedom no matter how much it may hurt. choose. fucking. freedom. it's the most important thing.

for all those wondering, the "put in your bids now, hope they're cheap" was a reference to how the venue, Earls Court, was sadly set to be demolished in place of "Expensive condos" and was the entire reason Arcade Fire wanted to perform there one last time.

While they are very popular obviously, I think what he may be saying is that they should be thought of in the same breath as U2 or the Stones or Springsteen etc.., because they should. Best band of the last 15 years. One of the few universally appealing rock bands left that aren't in their 70's, and still in their prime.

i cry every time i hear it. sometimes i think i won't, but then i get to "if i could have it back, you know i'd love to waste it again" and the tears come. i remember when i first found this on youtube, not long after it came out, with the music video, one night in my angsty teenage room, and i knew right away that i'd remember this song. That'i'd carry it with me and keep it close to my heart. I listened to it on repeat for a few days, my little heart was in rags by the end of it. I grew up in the suburbs in denmark, so the scenery of the american suburbs seemed somewhat foreign, but i felt like i still understood. now, that i've seen the american suburbs myself, and i've moved abroad to a small city that isn't connected to the rest of the world by roads, the suburbs all look more the same to me. i look back on them, and on most days i feel blessed that so much of the mass-depression of the rest of the modern world doesn't seem to apply here. but i have tender days. and i dont think there's any point in being strong and keeping a straight face when my heart feels heavy. so when it does i'll give in, and i'll listen to the music that hurts, and i'll cry my little heart out for a little while. this one evokes painful nostalgia. it feels great to be able to count on something to feel so perfectly eloquent every single time.

What a piece of art this song. Coming from the suburbs of the states all my life. It brings back the memories of the past years. The most important part of this song is the part where he sings about having a child and how important it is to show them love, because in this life, there is very little or none at all, love from a parent as a child is so important. Great song.

In the suburbs, I I learned to drive And you told me we'd never survive Grab your mother's keys, we're leaving You always seemed so sure That one day we'd be fighting in a suburban war Your part of town against mine I saw you standing on the opposite shore But by the time the first bombs fell We were already bored We were already, already bored The kids want to be so hard But in my dreams, we're still screaming And running through the yard And all of the walls that they built in the 70s finally fall And all of the houses they built in the 70s finally fall Meant nothing at all Meant nothing at all, it meant nothing Sometimes I can't believe it I'm moving past the feeling Sometimes I can't believe it I'm moving past the feeling and into the night So can you understand That I want a daughter while I'm still young? I want to hold her hand And show her some beauty before this damage is done But if it's too much to ask, if it's too much to ask Then send me a perfect son Under the overpass In the parking lot, we're still waiting, it's already passed So move your feet from hot pavement and into the grass 'Cause it's already passed It's already, already passed Sometimes I can't believe it I'm moving past the feeling Sometimes I can't believe it I'm moving past the feeling again I'm moving past the feeling I'm moving past the feeling In my dreams, we're still screaming We're still screaming We're still screaming If I could have it back All the time that we wasted I'd only waste it again If I could have it back You know I would love to waste it again Waste it again and again and again And all my friends, they were singing Sometimes I can't believe it I'm moving past the feeling again Sometimes I can't believe it I'm moving past the feeling again Sometimes I can't believe it I'm moving past the feeling again Sometimes I can't

Naw, I like the studio version better. I bet AFs shows are great when you are in the crowd but if we go solely on the music I prefer the cleaner more powerful vocals of the studio version. I think it's the other way around btw. Most people won't admit when they like a studio version better than a live version, because it makes them seem less "legit" fans if they do. Any way, just my two cents.....

Nostalgic, emotive and beautiful is how I describe this song. It bring memories of my childhood, both good and bad, rushing back like a slide show through my mind. Arcade Fire - grossly underrated and underappreciated. But to the enlightened ones who know, they are one of the last bastions of great song writing and orchestration. Best Canadian band ever....

Hard to argue against Arcade Fire but there have been many great Canadian bands. Rush, Tragically Hip, Sarah McL and Neil Young come to mind, different eras of course

This song is perfect. I have to say, the fragment when he sings "so can you understand? Why I want a daughter while I'm still young, I want to hold her hand, show her some beauty before this damage is done" is such a beautiful quote. If I had a daughter, I would've dedicated that line to her.

I think this band, this song, and this album shows that rock music still has some life left in it. Never really heard anything quite like Arcade Fire. They're definitely one of the true 'new' feeling rock bands of my lifetime.

This song makes me think that my calm life, one that many would love to be having, is not exactly what I would want, all the boring routine... All the wasted time I try to convince myself it's just quality time I should be grateful for... And yet, still I'm so afraid of bringing my ideas to reality and getting into the unknown... This is how deep this song makes me feel.

In the suburbs I I learned to drive And you told me we'd never survive Grab your mother's keys we're leavin' You always seemed so sure That one day we'd be fighting In a suburban war Your part of town against mine I saw you standing on the opposite shore But by the time the first bombs fell We were already bored We were already, already bored Sometimes I can't believe it I'm movin' past the feeling Sometimes I can't believe it I'm movin' past the feeling again Kids wanna be so hard But in my dreams we're still screamin' and runnin' through the yard And all of the walls that they built in the seventies finally fall And all of the houses they built in the seventies finally fall Meant nothin' at all Meant nothin' at all It meant nothin Sometimes I can't believe it I'm movin' past the feeling Sometimes I can't believe it I'm movin' past the feeling and into the night So can you understand? Why I want a daughter while I'm still young I wanna hold her hand And show her some beauty Before all this damage is done But if it's too much to ask, it's too much to ask Then send me a son Under the overpass In the parking lot we're still waiting It's already past So move your feet from hot pavement and into the grass Cause it's already past It's already, already past Sometimes I can't believe it I'm movin' past the feeling Sometimes I can't believe it I'm movin' past the feeling again I'm movin' past the feeling I'm movin' past the feeling In my dreams we're still screamin' We're still screamin' We're still screamin'
