From a retired band director, I really enjoyed the quality of execution both visually and musically. A bunch of fine musicians and outstanding staff. I hope your community knows what they have in this fine program and support it.

One of my granddaughters graduated high school in June 2021. She was involved in every aspect of her school's musical programs including marching band which I especially enjoyed. She's off to University of Michigan now, but considered the Michigan Marching Band (MMB). Alas her studies took precedence and she is not part of the MMB. It's a shame that most young people's participation in organized music ends with HS graduation. Enjoy it, encourage it while you can parents and grandparents.

Arcadia High band alumni here: class of 1979. I ADORE this march and think it's been a long time coming that the band played it. Very impressive and fun. The "West Arcadia" band review, as we called it back in the day, was a chance for everyone to march. We were SO crazy competitive that only 90 musicians could march in competition events on the street. It made for some angry parents. Oh well... we rocked, and still do. 🙂

Craig, I played Trumpet for Los Altos High from 81-85. I recall that Freshman year Arcadia HS had the best marching band in Southern California and if I recall, they won what was then the Tournament of Champions in the Open Class. Arcadia, Los Altos, Magnolia (Anaheim) Poway and Mt Carmel (both from San Diego) were amongst the best in the Western United States and am proud to have competed against the best. Cheers to all of us then and now who put in so many countless hours, sweat and tears to make these performances look and sound amazing.

I grew up in Alhambra and Temple City(played in San Gabriel HS Band. Arcadia has ALWAYS had good bands. March on my little brothers and sisters. ❤️❤️❤️

Outstanding performance! Loved watching an actual drum major show off their skills with the lance. Don't get to see much of that where I live. It's all corps style now. But back in the late 70's when I marched this style was king. I enjoyed this very much.

Back in the 70s I was into Colton high school yellow jacket marching band and drill team we were over 200 strong we competed against Arcadia and we enjoyed mini mini sweepstakes in first place trophies both on the field and on the streets but I’ve got to say it’s the band of the 70s that I was in competed against the 2021 Arcadia band I don’t think we would come out ahead absolutely great diagonals and secondary and the music was impressive very impressive

Mister: My reaction to the shot from behind was that they looked like they weren't marching at all, but that they were standing on some kind of people mover, and each member was glued to his/her spot so that it looked like one organism being transported down the street. Impressive precision. The line of sousaphones was so straight!

I grew up in CA and loved marching in the band reviews and all of the holiday parades. I now live in Texas and the high schools here don't do them. No parades whatsoever. Only fieldshow comps. Boo.

I noticed an Arcadia drum line started the parade first. Is that just the rest of their typical drum line from field shows? Or is it a winter guard type thing.

I think they're Open line or the JV drum line, but they basically only perform in winter season. Only World line is in the parade block & field show.

Music213, From watching your videos and reading the comments, I understand that you not only know the Kyoto Tachibana High School Marching Band from Japan but you also have direct contact with them as well when they are in the U.S. Do you have any idea if Tachibana will ever come to the Rose Parade again? As a big fan of them I heard so many stories and that they as a lone school, will not make an appearance in the Rose Parade again due to all kinds of bureaucracy and politic. And that if they do come they will only have a group to join other Japanese schools in some kind of honor band like what we have seen in some previous years. If you have any information on them it would be greatly appreciated. I understand that my question is inappropriate to be in this video of this great band from Arcadia but you’re the only American that I could think of that might have some informations about Tachibana. Thanks!

Hi Neng and no worries. It's a fair question to ask! Unfortunately though, I do not have any insight regarding Tachibana and weather they'll return to Pasadena. Let's hope they do some day!
